Book Transition Metals in Coordination Environments

Download or read book Transition Metals in Coordination Environments written by Ewa Broclawik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-16 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the electronic properties of transition metals in coordination environments. These properties are responsible for the unique and intricate activity of transition metal sites in bio- and inorganic catalysis, but also pose challenges for both theoretical and experimental studies. Written by an international group of recognized experts, the book reviews recent advances in computational modeling and discusses their interplay using experiments. It covers a broad range of topics, including advanced computational methods for transition metal systems; spectroscopic, electrochemical and catalytic properties of transition metals in coordination environments; metalloenzymes and biomimetic compounds; and spin-related phenomena. As such, the book offers an invaluable resource for all researchers and postgraduate students interested in both fundamental and application-oriented research in the field of transition metal systems.

Book Transition Metal Complexes as Drugs and Chemotherapeutic Agents

Download or read book Transition Metal Complexes as Drugs and Chemotherapeutic Agents written by N. Farrell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this book was first conceived as a project the expanding interest in the clinical use of platinum and gold complexes made a survey of the relevant biological properties of metal complexes timely and appropriate. This timeliness has not diminished during the gestation and final publica tion of the manuscript. The introduction contains an explanation of the layout and approach to the book, which I wrote as an overall survey of the wide variety of biological properties of metal complexes. Hopefully, the reader will see the parallels in mechanisms and behavior, even in different organisms. The writing was considerably helped by the enthusiasm and confidence (totally unearned on my part) in the project of Professor Brian James and lowe him my special thanks. I also owe a great debt of gratitude to my colleagues, and especially to Eucler Paniago, of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, for their comprehension and for the initial leave of absence which allowed me to begin the project. To those who read some or all of the manuscript and made suggestions, Bernhard Lippert, Kirsten Skov, and Tom Tritton, as well as the editor's reviewer I am also grateful. As usual, the final responsibility for errors or otherwise rests with the author.

This book was released on 2006-02-15 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term ligand [latin, ligare = bind] has its origin in coordination chemistry. It denotes a molecule that is able to bind to a metal center in most cases via one or several free electron pairs.[1] Ligands can be described by the number of electron-pair donor atoms as monodentate, bidentate, tridentate etc. ligands. The latter are also called chelating ligands [greek, chele = (crab’s) claw]. A typical classification of ligands is according to their electronic properties. They serve either as a σ-donating, σ-donating/π-accepting, or σ,π-donating/π-accepting ligands.[2] A more practical, often encountered approach is the classification of ligands according to their donor atoms, especially when larger molecules and molecules containing heteroatoms are regarded (compare 1.2). Coordination chemistry was already established in the 19th century. In 1893 Alfred Werner suggested an octahedral arrangement of ligands coordinated to a central metal ion for many compounds. This explained, for example, the appearance and reactivity of four different cobalt(III) complexes (Figure 1.1), when CoCl2 is dissolved in aqueous ammonia and then oxidized by air to the +3 oxidation state. The formulas of these complexes can be written as depicted in Figure 1.1. Werner’s work was rewarded with the Nobel prize in 1913.[3]

Book Synthesis Reactivity and Catalytic Applications of Two Coordinate First Row Transition Metal Complexes

Download or read book Synthesis Reactivity and Catalytic Applications of Two Coordinate First Row Transition Metal Complexes written by Michael Isaac Lipschutz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, the development of more sustainable catalytic systems based on abundant first-row metals, especially nickel, for organic transformations has attracted significant interest. This thesis describes the development of new synthetic methods for the preparation of two-coordinate complexes of a variety of first row transition metals. The physical and spectroscopic properties of these complexes are discussed and the reactivity and catalytic applications of these compounds are also explored. Species of this type are found to catalyze a variety of useful organic transformations using inexpensive metals and ligands.

Book Synthesis and Characterization of Transition Metal Complexes with Bulky Tin Ligands for Application in Small Molecule Activation

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Transition Metal Complexes with Bulky Tin Ligands for Application in Small Molecule Activation written by Veeranna Yempally and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of bulky tin ligands in the stabilization of transition metal complexes with electronic unsaturation has been studied to understand the mode of binding of small molecules at an unsaturated metal center. We were able to isolate electronically unsaturated Pt-Sn bimetallic complexes effective in the reversible activation of small molecules including CO, H2, C2H4, and NH3 at room temperature. We have examined the effect of the modification of ligands in Pt-Sn bimetallic complexes for the activation of small molecules and have observed that the Pt(SnBut3)2(CNBut)2 bimetallic complex reversibly activates hydrogen at room temperature both in the solid state and in solution. Similarly, we have also prepared bimetallic Pt-Sn complexes with an NHC carbine ligand which were also shown to activate hydrogen and alkenes reversibly. A bimetallic Fe-Sn cluster complex, Fe2 ([mu]-SnBut2)2(CO)8, was synthesized from the reaction of But3SnH with the Fe2(CO)9 and shown to be selective at activating the benzylic C-H bond of alkylaromatic solvent molecules. The new complexes containing tin have been characterized spectroscopically to gain an insight into the reaction mechanism involved in small molecule activation.

Book Asymmetric Organocatalysis Combined with Metal Catalysis

Download or read book Asymmetric Organocatalysis Combined with Metal Catalysis written by Bruce A. Arndtsen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-24 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field. The chapter "Enamine/Transition Metal Combined Catalysis: Catalytic Transformations Involving Organometallic Electrophilic Intermediates" is available open access under a CC BY 4.0 License via link.springer.com.
