This book was released on 2009 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mission of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is to provide leadership to achieve full integration and participation in society of people with disabilities and to ensure equal opportunities in, access to, and excellence in education, employment and community living. In implementing this mission, OSERS administers programs that help educate children and youths with disabilities, provides for the rehabilitation of youths and adults with disabilities, and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Over the last four decades, the transition of youths with disabilities from school to productive adulthood has received high priority from OSERS' Office of the Assistant Secretary (OAS) and all three program components within OSERS: the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). These offices award discretionary and formula grants to states, and execute regulatory and policy guidance in an effort to have a successful impact on education and employment outcomes for youths with disabilities. To build upon this priority and the history of accomplishments among the program components, the OSERS Transition Steering Committee (Steering Committee) was established. OAS and all three program components of OSERS are represented on the Steering Committee. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to facilitate the collaborative efforts of OSERS to improve outcomes for youths with disabilities in their transition from secondary school to adulthood. This document describes past, present and upcoming OSERS transition activities, such as projects supporting youths with disabilities served by state agencies, written products offering technical assistance (TA) and OSERS-sponsored conferences facilitating the exchange of information among transition partners. It is intended to be used as a working document to broaden awareness of OSERS transition activities. Links offering more detailed information are provided whenever possible. A list of resources is included. (Contains 3 footnotes.).

Book OSERS Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Transition Data Fact Sheet

Download or read book OSERS Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Transition Data Fact Sheet written by Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (ED) and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) administers programs that assist in educating children and youth with disabilities and provides funding for vocational rehabilitation (VR) services for youth and adults with disabilities. OSERS established the Transition Steering Committee to focus specifically on the services, needs, and outcomes of youth with disabilities who may benefit from the work conducted and services authorized by its program component offices. OSERS provides funds to support transition services, transition programs, technical assistance projects, and research projects related to youth with disabilities. However, the committee found that program-specific data about OSERS transition work are not frequently summarized and not readily available to OSERS staff across its component offices and the general public, especially members of the transition community. To address this need, the committee developed the "Transition Data Fact Sheet" as a quick reference to inform OSERS staff and the transition community about critical data areas related to the transition of youth with disabilities from school activities to post-school activities. The data in this fact sheet are presented for OSERS staff and others to use in their work and to draw their own conclusions from the data provided. The "Transition Data Fact Sheet" is intended to be a reference tool and should not be treated as a comprehensive document. It is organized into three areas of emphasis: (1) transition services; (2) post-school outcomes; and (3) OSERS investments in transition--related research, special education and VR services. It is important to note that most of the data and information presented are primarily specific to youth with disabilities between the ages of 14 and 24.
