Book Transient Thermal Stresses in a Thin Disk

Download or read book Transient Thermal Stresses in a Thin Disk written by Walter Jaunzemis and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation is concerned with the effects of inertia and thermodynamic coupling upon thermal stresses produced in a thin disk. Rotational symmetry is assumed, and the problem is treated within the two-dimensional theory of elasticity. A solution is obtained in the form of an infinite series, and comparison is made with solutions in which effects of inertia or thermodynamic coupling are neglected. For the problem considered, the effects of inertia and thermodynamic coupling are found to be negligible. (Author).

Book Plane Thermoelastic Deformation of Internally Heated Annular Disks Or Hollow Cylinders

Download or read book Plane Thermoelastic Deformation of Internally Heated Annular Disks Or Hollow Cylinders written by Franklyn B. Fuller and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A plane elastic problem of bodies bounded by concentric circles and heated at the inner boundary is solved in the "uncoupled, quasi-static" approximation. The heating takes place by surface heat transfer, with limiting cases corresponding to sudden temperature change and to constant flux of heat. The stress boundary conditions treated are those of constant flux of heat. The stress boundary conditions treated are those of constant pressure at the inner wall while the outer wall may be either free or rigidly restrained. The time-dependent results for stresses, displacement, and temperature are calculated and shown for several cases with varying values for the parameters specifying heat transfer and wall thickness. The effect of varying Poisson's ratio is also examined. Formulas for steady-state distributions of the quantities of interest are also given, as well as some approximate results that can be used for very small times.

Book Thermal Stresses Advanced Theory and Applications

Download or read book Thermal Stresses Advanced Theory and Applications written by Richard B. Hetnarski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-23 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors are pleased to present Thermal Stresses – Advanced Theory and Applications. This book will serve a wide range of readers, in particular, gr- uate students, PhD candidates, professors, scientists, researchers in various industrial and government institutes, and engineers. Thus, the book should be considered not only as a graduate textbook, but also as a reference handbook to those working or interested in areas of Applied Mathematics, Continuum Mechanics, Stress Analysis, and Mechanical Design. In addition, the book p- vides extensive coverage of great many theoretical problems and numerous references to the literature. The ?eld of Thermal Stresses lies at the crossroads of Stress Analysis, T- ory of Elasticity, Thermodynamics, Heat Conduction Theory, and advanced methods of Applied Mathematics. Each of these areas is covered to the extend it is necessary. Therefore, the book is self-contained, so that the reader should not need to consult other sources while studying the topic. The book starts from basic concepts and principles, and these are developed to more advanced levels as the text progresses. Nevertheless, some basic preparation on the part of the reader in Classical Mechanics, Stress Analysis, and Mathematics, - cluding Vector and Cartesian Tensor Analysis is expected. While selecting material for the book, the authors made every e?ort to present both classical topics and methods, and modern, or more recent, dev- opments in the ?eld. The book comprises ten chapters.

Book Thermal Shock and Thermal Fatigue Behavior of Advanced Ceramics

Download or read book Thermal Shock and Thermal Fatigue Behavior of Advanced Ceramics written by Gerold A. Schneider and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in advanced ceramics are critically evaluated in respect to their thermal shock and thermal fatigue behavior from an interdisciplinary viewpoint by leading experts. The book covers the aspects of material development, mechanical and fracture mechanical models and experimental testing methods. Special emphasis is given to the influence of a rising crack resistance on the thermal shock behavior, novel irradiation testing methods for a quantitative characterization of the thermal shock and fatigue loading as well as detailed fracture mechanical models for single and multiple crack propagation. This book summarizes developments of the last decade concerning the thermal shock and thermal fatigue behavior of advanced ceramics. The scientific articles of the book were carefully arranged in order to achieve a textbook-like form which will be of great value to researchers and students. Book A Numerical Computation of Thermal and Residual Stresses in a Disk in the Elastic plastic Mode Resulting from a Weld Deposited in a Centrally Located Hole and Correlation with Experimental Results Part I Thin Disk Analysis Part Ii Thick Disk Analysis

Download or read book A Numerical Computation of Thermal and Residual Stresses in a Disk in the Elastic plastic Mode Resulting from a Weld Deposited in a Centrally Located Hole and Correlation with Experimental Results Part I Thin Disk Analysis Part Ii Thick Disk Analysis written by Howard Duchacek and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of solution to three problems of transient thermal stress and strain in the elastic-plastic mode are presented. Deformation theory is used in conjunction with the equilibrium, continuity, and compatibility equations to calculate the stress and strain at any radial location and time instant in a thin solid disk or hollow disk which is centrally heated or a hollow disk which is heated centrally and filled with weld material at some time instant. As a part of the experimental program, steel disks of 12 in. diameter are used as test vehicles to determine residual stresses owing to welds performed on the same. The disks are drilled centrally and axially and have welds deposited which fill the holes by the MIG process. Strain gages and a cutting technique is used in the measurement of residual strains and stresses. The residual stresses as determined from the experimental program are found to agree fairly well with the residual stresses determined from the computer program. An attempt was made to obtain a solution for the case of a thick disk subjected to axisymmetrical heating, where the stresses and temperature vary in the axial as well as the radial direction. The necessary finite difference equations and program-flow for such a solution, for the elastic case, have been established. Additional work is required to permit efficient programming and to include changes for the plastic case. (Author).
