Book Transient Elastic Waves in Infinite Anisotropic Plates

Download or read book Transient Elastic Waves in Infinite Anisotropic Plates written by Richard A. Scott and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For certain classes of materials and orientations of the axes of symmetry, the equations of motion of alinear, anisotropic, elastic solid admit of plane-strain solutions. A problem is considered in which such motions are generated, namely, the application of an impulsive, normal, line load, parallel to one of the crystallographic axes, on one face of an infinite plate. It is found that two basic situations arise, depending on whether certain branch points are complex, or real and pure imaginary, and in the former case the solution on the epicentral axis is obtained. This solution is analyzed numerically for several anisotropic media, and isotropic media for comparison purposes. (Author).

Book Transient Elastic Waves in Anisotropic Plates

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some classes of anisotropic media and certain orientations of the axes of symmetry, plane-strain and torsional motions are possible in elastic plates. Using the linear equations of motion, the solutions to several time-dependent boundary value problems which generate such motions are derived, by means of multi-integral transform techniques. The problems considered are (i) sudden symmetric application of normal line loads on the surfaces of an infinite plate; (ii) sudden application of a normal displacement, together with zero shear stress, at the edge of a semi-infinite plate, whose lateral surfaces are stress-free; (iii) sudden application of a normal stress, together with zero lateral displacement, at the edge of a semi-infinite plate, whose lateral surfaces are stress-free and (iv) impulsive torsional loading of the surfaces of an infinite plate by means of concentrated torques. In problems (i), (ii), and (iii), far-field information is obtained by means of a low frequency, small wavenumber approximation, and numerical results are presented for ice, zinc, copper, and several isotropic media for comparison purposes. (Author).

Book Elastic wave propagation in transversely isotropic media

Download or read book Elastic wave propagation in transversely isotropic media written by R.C. Payton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1983-10-31 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph I record those parts of the theory of transverse isotropic elastic wave propagation which lend themselves to an exact treatment, within the framework of linear theory. Emphasis is placed on transient wave motion problems in two- and three-dimensional unbounded and semibounded solids for which explicit results can be obtained, without resort to approximate methods of integration. The mathematical techniques used, many of which appear here in book form for the first time, will be of interest to applied mathematicians, engeneers and scientists whose specialty includes crystal acoustics, crystal optics, magnetogasdynamics, dislocation theory, seismology and fibre wound composites. My interest in the subject of anisotropic wave motion had its origin in the study of small deformations superposed on large deformations of elastic solids. By varying the initial stretch in a homogeneously deformed solid, it is possible to synthesize aniso tropic materials whose elastic parameters vary continuously. The range of the parameter variation is limited by stability considerations in the case of small deformations super posed on large deformation problems and (what is essentially the same thing) by the of hyperbolicity (solids whose parameters allow wave motion) for anisotropic notion solids. The full implication of hyperbolicity for anisotropic elastic solids has never been previously examined, and even now the constraints which it imposes on the elasticity constants have only been examined for the class of transversely isotropic (hexagonal crystals) materials.

Book Transient Non axisymmetric Waves in Transversely Isotropic Elastic Plates

Download or read book Transient Non axisymmetric Waves in Transversely Isotropic Elastic Plates written by Richard A. Scott and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the equations of motion from linear elasticity, the formal solutions to a class of non-axisymmetric wave propagation problems involving a transversely isotropic plate are obtained. Inversion, on the epicentral axis and for a certain class of materials, is carried out explicitly for the particular problem of the application of a point shear load, with a 'ramp' time-dependence, to one face of the plate, and the results are analyzed numerically for several anisotropic and isotropic solids. Book The Theory of Elastic Waves and Waveguides

Download or read book The Theory of Elastic Waves and Waveguides written by J. Miklowitz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this book is to give the reader a basic understanding of waves and their propagation in a linear elastic continuum. The studies of elastodynamic theory and its application to fundamental value problems should prepare the reader to tackle many physical problems of general interest in engineering and geophysics, and of particular interest in mechanics and seismology.

Book Transient Non axisymmetric Wave Propagation in an Infinite Elastic Plate

Download or read book Transient Non axisymmetric Wave Propagation in an Infinite Elastic Plate written by Richard A. Scott and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solutions to a general class of transient non-axisymmetric wave problems involving an infinite elastic plate are presented. The equations of motion from linear elasticity theory are employed and the solutions are obtained through the use of superposition and multi-integral transform techniques. The method of stationary phase is applied to obtain the predominant far-field disturbance for two particular problems, namely the sudden application of symmetric point shear and normal half-ring loads, and a numerical study is given in the former case. Download or read book Elastic Waves in Solids II written by DANIEL ROYER and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-11-30 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic waves possess some remarkable properties and have become ever more important to applications in fields such as telecommunications (signal processing), medicine (echography), and metallurgy (non-destructive testing). These volumes serve as a bridge between basic books on wave phenomena and more technically oriented books on specific applications of wave phenomena. The first volume studies the different mechanisms of propagation in isotropic and anisotropic media. The second volume describes the generation and applications of free and guided waves.

Book Wave Propagation in Elastic Solids

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Elastic Solids written by J. D. Achenbach and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation in Elastic Solids focuses on linearized theory and perfectly elastic media. This book discusses the one-dimensional motion of an elastic continuum; linearized theory of elasticity; elastodynamic theory; and elastic waves in an unbounded medium. The plane harmonic waves in elastic half-spaces; harmonic waves in waveguides; and forced motions of a half-space are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the transient waves in layers and rods; diffraction of waves by a slit; and thermal and viscoelastic effects, and effects of anisotropy and nonlinearity. Other topics include the summary of equations in rectangular coordinates, time-harmonic plane waves, approximate theories for rods, and transient in-plane motion of a layer. This publication is a good source for students and researchers conducting work on the wave propagation in elastic solids.

Book Anisotropic Plates

Book excerpt: Three main topics are considered: (1) the generalized plane stressed state of anisotropic plates; (2) the bending of anisotropic plates, and (3) the stability of anisotropic plates. All problems discussed are concerned only with small elastic strains of plates. The material on the problem of transverse vibrations of anisotropic plates which is collected in a special chapter. The main attention was paid to the practical side of the solutions presented; formulas and conclusions having theoretical interest only were mostly given without derivation. (Author).
