Book Transient and Permanent Error Control for Networks on Chip

Download or read book Transient and Permanent Error Control for Networks on Chip written by Qiaoyan Yu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-18 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses reliability and energy efficiency of on-chip networks using cooperative error control. It describes an efficient way to construct an adaptive error control codec capable of tracking noise conditions and adjusting the error correction strength at runtime. Methods are also presented to tackle joint transient and permanent error correction, exploiting the redundant resources already available on-chip. A parallel and flexible network simulator is also introduced, which facilitates examining the impact of various error control methods on network-on-chip performance.

Book Harnessing Performance Variability in Embedded and High performance Many Multi core Platforms

Download or read book Harnessing Performance Variability in Embedded and High performance Many Multi core Platforms written by William Fornaciari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the state-of-the art of industrial and academic research in the architectural design of heterogeneous, multi/many-core processors. The authors describe methods and tools to enable next-generation embedded and high-performance heterogeneous processors to confront cost-effectively the inevitable variations by providing Dependable-Performance: correct functionality and timing guarantees throughout the expected lifetime of a platform under thermal, power, and energy constraints. Various aspects of the reliability problem are discussed, at both the circuit and architecture level, the intelligent selection of knobs and monitors in multicore platforms, and systematic design methodologies. The authors demonstrate how new techniques have been applied in real case studies from different applications domain and report on results and conclusions of those experiments. Enables readers to develop performance-dependable heterogeneous multi/many-core architectures Describes system software designs that support high performance dependability requirements Discusses and analyzes low level methodologies to tradeoff conflicting metrics, i.e. power, performance, reliability and thermal management Includes new application design guidelines to improve performance dependability

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should one approach the notion of the precarious in art – its meanings and its outcomes? Its presence in artistic practices may be transient, yet it instigates permanent changes in the production, discourse, and perception of art. The Permanence of the Transient: Precariousness in Art gathers essays that examine the traces and implications of precariousness in contemporary art, and lays a foundation for a thoughtful study of its emergence in related fields throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The different perspectives represented in this volume touch on art history and theory, curatorial practice, media art, philosophy, language, and transnational studies, and highlight artists’ narratives. Together, these interdisciplinary essays locate precariousness as an undercurrent in contemporary art and a connective tissue across diverse areas of knowledge and everyday life.

Download or read book Experience written by Donald J. DeGracia and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With his usual blending of Western and Eastern thought, Don DeGracia considers the ancient question of the nature of our experience. Unlike most accounts, this one begins with the fact of altered states of consciousness. The curtain is pulled back to reveal the infinity of dynamic patterns found under the surface mind: the desires, the unfulfilled urges, longings, and striving. Under these are the mindless urges of life and the cosmos. One and all they are but futile striving to become what they never can be: the infinite. The mask of reality is ripped asunder to show that all existence is but mirage, an endless, futile striving towards a goal that can never be realized. It is always darkest before the sunrise. Similarly, the phantasmagoria of our seeming is ultimately a message of hope. By peering into the infinite depths of the irrationality of appearances, we unlock the door to approach the Ultimate Reality behind all appearances. This is the message of Experience.

Book The Computer as Medium

    Book Details:
  • Author : Berit Holmqvist
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1993
  • ISBN : 9780521419956
  • Pages : 514 pages

Download or read book The Computer as Medium written by Berit Holmqvist and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many industrial training applications, educational applications, and of course information applications such as databases and hypermedia are all attempts to communicate, and yet we really don't know much about the computer as a communicative medium. Bringing together a collection of essays presenting such diverse theoretical approaches as general semiotics, linguistics, communication theory, literary and art criticism, sociology, and history, the editors set out to establish and elaborate the role of computer systems as a sign technology. The volume is divided into three main parts, each focused on a different field of semiotic inquiry. "Computer-Based Signs" discusses the special nature of signs produced by means of computers. "The Rhetoric of Interactive Media" deals with codes of aesthetics and composition for the new "elastic" medium of communication: interactive fiction and hypertext. "Computers in Context" analyzes computer technology in the larger cultural, historical, and organizational contexts. Scholars in computer science, cognitive science, organization theory, information and media science, semiotics, communication, and linguistics will find this book invaluable, and as current excitement about hypermedia and electronic books continues to grow, a broader audience including computer artists and literary critics will also find it a useful resource.

Book Real Time Systems

Download or read book Real Time Systems written by Hermann Kopetz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-22 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a comprehensive text for the design of safety critical, hard real-time embedded systems. It offers a splendid example for the balanced, integrated treatment of systems and software engineering, helping readers tackle the hardest problems of advanced real-time system design, such as determinism, compositionality, timing and fault management. This book is an essential reading for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in a wide range of disciplines impacted by embedded computing and software. Its conceptual clarity, the style of explanations and the examples make the abstract concepts accessible for a wide audience." Janos Sztipanovits, Director E. Bronson Ingram Distinguished Professor of Engineering Institute for Software Integrated Systems Vanderbilt University Real-Time Systems focuses on hard real-time systems, which are computing systems that must meet their temporal specification in all anticipated load and fault scenarios. The book stresses the system aspects of distributed real-time applications, treating the issues of real-time, distribution and fault-tolerance from an integral point of view. A unique cross-fertilization of ideas and concepts between the academic and industrial worlds has led to the inclusion of many insightful examples from industry to explain the fundamental scientific concepts in a real-world setting. Compared to the Second Edition, new developments in communication standards for time-sensitive networks, such as TSN and Time-Triggered Ethernet are addressed. Furthermore, this edition includes a new chapter on real-time aspects in cloud and fog computing. The book is written as a standard textbook for a high-level undergraduate or graduate course on real-time embedded systems or cyber-physical systems. Its practical approach to solving real-time problems, along with numerous summary exercises, makes it an excellent choice for researchers and practitioners alike.
