Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pentecostal and charismatic renewal movements have seen great growth over the last century and have engaged with many Christian traditions. Yet there are signs that all is not well, and there is a need to develop theologies of renewal that engage with practice and across the traditions if the movements are to continue to grow. In particular, this book seeks an ecumenical engagement between David Watson and Thomas Merton, leaders in the charismatic and monastic renewal movements. The aim is to reflect on the theological roots of these renewal movements through a study of particular people who lived them in practice and sought to help others understand how the triune God was at work. This is done against the wider background of contemporary renewalist theology to develop constructive proposals for renewal theology in the future. Receptive ecumenism provides the method for bringing the different voices into conversation in ways that also point forward in approaches to ecumenical dialogue. It is thus a study relevant to those seeking new ways in theology, those involved in renewal and ecumenical movements, students of Thomas Merton, and all who seek to better understand the Christian renewal movements that have swept the world.
Download or read book Renewal written by Anne-Marie Slaughter and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the acclaimed author of Unfinished Business, a story of crisis and change that can help us find renewed honesty and purpose in our personal and political lives Like much of the world, America is deeply divided over identity, equality, and history. Renewal is Anne-Marie Slaughter’s candid and deeply personal account of how her own odyssey opened the door to an important new understanding of how we as individuals, organizations, and nations can move backward and forward at the same time, facing the past and embracing a new future. Weaving together personal stories and reflections with insights from the latest research in the social sciences, Slaughter recounts a difficult time of self‐examination and growth in the wake of a crisis that changed the way she lives, leads, and learns. She connects her experience to our national crisis of identity and values as the country looks into a four-hundred-year-old mirror and tries to confront and accept its full reflection. The promise of the Declaration of Independence has been hollow for so many for so long. That reckoning is the necessary first step toward renewal. The lessons here are not just for America. Slaughter shows how renewal is possible for anyone who is willing to see themselves with new eyes and embrace radical honesty, risk, resilience, interdependence, grace, and vision. Part personal journey, part manifesto, Renewal offers hope tempered by honesty and is essential reading for citizens, leaders, and the change makers of tomorrow.
Download or read book BIBLICAL TRANSFORMATION The Renewed Mind written by Stephen Shober and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-03-31 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewal of the mind is the Great Physician's prescription for the troubled soul. The Bible, in Romans 12:1-2, teaches the need to become a transformed person through the renewal of the mind. Transformation is the metamorphoses (a change in form) of our minds, changing the expressions of the old life and nature for the new nature each believer has. Indeed, it is a whole new manner of life. This book is a study guide, designed to help each person learn how to properly participate in the transformation process to make it most effective. This book is for people who feel stuck in life, as though they were going through the motions, spinning their wheels, but accomplishing nothing. Many feel controlled by their pasts or in bondage to their own emotional baggage. The Lord wants to deliver us from our own dysfunctional and misguided minds by renewing them, and in the process our lives will be transformed. Then we will be able to think and act as the new person we are in Jesus Christ; life will have purpose and control will flow from within us. Who we really are deep inside, is defined by entities such as character, attitude, conscience, values, etc. These reside in the deeper recesses of the soul, in the central core of our being. They can be deeply scarred by the events of life, sin, self, false concepts..., and these scars are often created early in life. Thus, our scarred souls (minds) carry the baggage of our pasts, the emotional pain of our lives, and the thinking characteristic of the non-regenerated mind. Our dilemma is: we are powerless to do anything about these scars (which are like scratches on DVD) and we can't function correctly with them. Resolving this dilemma is the Lord's work, and that is what mind renewal accomplishes. This is why the Holy Spirit works in the deepest parts of our minds, to reach the inner, core issues of life. This is where miracles are performed in our lives. Upon faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit enters our lives, and searches out the deepest recesses of our minds. As the Spirit works, He changes us, starting from those deepest recesses and working outward. The gunk of our past, the emotional baggage, the pride and self righteousness, the toxic memories, the negative thoughts that control our lives..., are all transformed through His power. In their place the Spirit produces His fruit, which is exactly what we need (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control...). Some topics discussed: depression, mental baggage, toxic thoughts, harmful emotions, negativity, fear and anxiety, being overweight, deadly memories, and the stress-health connection. Specific plans are developed to show how to address any matter in life in a godly manner, with the goal of achieving a renewed mind.

Besides, change and transformations are often used interchangeably. Thus the correct perspective of viewing change and transformations is missing from management literature. How is change different from transformation? Do all changes lead to renewal? What are the characteristics of strategic changes? This re-addresses some of our current assumptions and understanding of change and transformation when viewed through both academic and business lenses. It is a balanced and well-rounded perspective on how strategic change and transformation can be brought about successfully in organizations specifically with the perspective from an emerging economy like India.
Download or read book The New Urban Renewal written by Derek S. Hyra and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the most celebrated black neighborhoods in the United States—Harlem in New York City and Bronzeville in Chicago—were once plagued by crime, drugs, and abject poverty. But now both have transformed into increasingly trendy and desirable neighborhoods with old buildings being rehabbed, new luxury condos being built, and banks opening branches in areas that were once redlined. In The New Urban Renewal, Derek S. Hyra offers an illuminating exploration of the complicated web of factors—local, national, and global—driving the remarkable revitalization of these two iconic black communities. How did these formerly notorious ghettos become dotted with expensive restaurants, health spas, and chic boutiques? And, given that urban renewal in the past often meant displacing African Americans, how have both neighborhoods remained black enclaves? Hyra combines his personal experiences as a resident of both communities with deft historical analysis to investigate who has won and who has lost in the new urban renewal. He discovers that today’s redevelopment affects African Americans differentially: the middle class benefits while lower-income residents are priced out. Federal policies affecting this process also come under scrutiny, and Hyra breaks new ground with his penetrating investigation into the ways that economic globalization interacts with local political forces to massively reshape metropolitan areas. As public housing is torn down and money floods back into cities across the United States, countless neighborhoods are being monumentally altered. The New Urban Renewal is a compelling study of the shifting dynamics of class and race at work in the contemporary urban landscape.

Download or read book Jewish Renewal written by Michael Lerner and published by Putnam Adult. This book was released on 1994 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lerner maintains that there are two voices in the Torah that have contended with each other throughout Jewish history: the voice of accumulated pain and cruelty that is passed from generation to generation and that masquerades as a patriarchal god, and the voice of God, whose massage of healing and compassion insists the world can be fundamentally transformed. Neoconservatives and some right-wing Israelis have used the Holocaust to justify a Judaism that is cynically "realistic" and demeaning of non-Jews. But that tendency to do unto others what was done to us can be overcome, Lerner says, and Jewish renewal attunes us to the voice of God and strengthens our ability to recognize the image of the divine in every human being.
