Book Transformation of Two and Three Dimensional Regions by Elliptic Systems

Download or read book Transformation of Two and Three Dimensional Regions by Elliptic Systems written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During this contract period, our work has focused on improvements to elliptic grid generation methods. There are two principle objectives in this project. One objective is to make the elliptic methods more reliable and efficient, and the other is to construct a modular code that can be incorporated into the National Grid Project (NGP), or any other grid generation code. Progress has been made in meeting both of these objectives. The two objectives are actually complementary. As the code development for the NGP progresses, we see many areas where improvements in algorithms can be made. Mastin, C. Wayne NASA-CR-192955, NAS 1.26:192955 NSG-1577...

Book Fundamentals of Grid Generation

Download or read book Fundamentals of Grid Generation written by Stanley Steinberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Grid Generation is an outstanding text/reference designed to introduce students in applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, and aerospace engineering to structured grid generation. It provides excellent reference material for practitioners in industry, and it presents new concepts to researchers. Readers will learn what boundary-conforming grids are, how to generate them, and how to devise their own methods. The text is written in a clear, intuitive style that doesn't get bogged down in unnecessary abstractions. Topics covered include planar, surface, and 3-D grid generation; numerical techniques; solution adaptivity; the finite volume approach to discretization of hosted equations; concepts from elementary differential geometry; and the transformation of differential operators to general coordinate systems. The book also reviews the literature on algebraic, conformal, orthogonal, hyperbolic, parabolic, elliptic, biharmonic, and variational approaches to grid generation. This unique volume closes with the author's original methods of variational grid generation.

Book Elliptic Systems of Phase Transition Type

Download or read book Elliptic Systems of Phase Transition Type written by Nicholas D. Alikakos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the vector Allen-Cahn equation, which models coexistence of three or more phases and is related to Plateau complexes – non-orientable objects with a stratified structure. The minimal solutions of the vector equation exhibit an analogous structure not present in the scalar Allen-Cahn equation, which models coexistence of two phases and is related to minimal surfaces. The 1978 De Giorgi conjecture for the scalar problem was settled in a series of papers: Ghoussoub and Gui (2d), Ambrosio and Cabré (3d), Savin (up to 8d), and del Pino, Kowalczyk and Wei (counterexample for 9d and above). This book extends, in various ways, the Caffarelli-Córdoba density estimates that played a major role in Savin's proof. It also introduces an alternative method for obtaining pointwise estimates. Key features and topics of this self-contained, systematic exposition include: • Resolution of the structure of minimal solutions in the equivariant class, (a) for general point groups, and (b) for general discrete reflection groups, thus establishing the existence of previously unknown lattice solutions. • Preliminary material beginning with the stress-energy tensor, via which monotonicity formulas, and Hamiltonian and Pohozaev identities are developed, including a self-contained exposition of the existence of standing and traveling waves. • Tools that allow the derivation of general properties of minimizers, without any assumptions of symmetry, such as a maximum principle or density and pointwise estimates. • Application of the general tools to equivariant solutions rendering exponential estimates, rigidity theorems and stratification results. This monograph is addressed to readers, beginning from the graduate level, with an interest in any of the following: differential equations – ordinary or partial; nonlinear analysis; the calculus of variations; the relationship of minimal surfaces to diffuse interfaces; or the applied mathematics of materials science.

Book Mathematical Aspects of Numerical Grid Generation

Download or read book Mathematical Aspects of Numerical Grid Generation written by JosŸ E. Castillo and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical grid generation plays a critical role in any scientific computing problem when the geometry of the underlying region is complex or when the solution has a complex structure. The mathematical aspects of grid generation are discussed to provide a deeper understanding of the algorithms and their imitations. Variational methods are emphasized because they are more robust, but elliptic and transcendental algebraic methods are also considered.

Book Super and Hypersonic Aerodynamics and Heat Transfer
