Book Transformation from Below White Suburbia in the Transformation of Apartheid South Africa to Democracy

Download or read book Transformation from Below White Suburbia in the Transformation of Apartheid South Africa to Democracy written by Ursula Scheidegger and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Africa is an example of a relatively successful political transition. Nevertheless, the first democratic elections in 1994 did not change the systemic and structural inequalities, the socioeconomic legacies of discrimination or the alienation of the different population groups. At the centre of this study is the transformation potential of two formerly white neighbourhoods in Johannesburg Norwood and Orange Grove. Both neighbourhoods have experienced considerable demographic changes and the various population groups differ in terms of their expectations and their willingness to adjust to the changes provoked by the transition. At the local level, patterns of discrimination and oppression continue. Spaces, opportunities and leverage of social networks engaged in the community are influenced by the resources people are able to access. Moreover, cooperation is contested in a context of pervasive inequality because there is no incentive for privileged groups to change arrangements that benefit them. In this context of conflicting interests and unequal access to power and resources, decentralisation and the promotion of participatory structures in local communities are a problem and the reliance on local networks as agents of development is questionable.

Book Unit Transformation for Leaders Brigade and Below

Download or read book Unit Transformation for Leaders Brigade and Below written by Craig Triscari and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2005-08 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The evolutionary pace of the Army has increased as we deal with the ever changing operational environment-especially the challenges associated with responding to insurgent and terrorist attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan. Major Craig Triscari provides the first primer for tactical leaders to accommodate the complexities of transforming formations that are often in the final preparation stages for combat. His book is a timely guide to prevent commanders across the Army from recreating the wheel as they field and deploy the new modular brigades. The principles outlined are equally relevant for active and reserve components and are a good foundation for leaders subsequently designated to field the Future Combat System (FCS) force." Colonel Mike Rounds 1st SBCT Commander and Commander, JRTC Operations Group The only book that lays out today's brigade and below transformation process in plain English. If you are interested in knowing how to successfully transform your unit, this is the book that can help you understand the challenges you will have to face. Major Craig Triscari will take you through a process of transformation from start to finish using plain English so that the reader is not lost in military jargon. In order to make transformation easier, the book focuses on essential components of completing a transformation in a timely manner, while sustaining the war fighting skills that have made our units feared and respected throughout the world. This book was written with the specific intent that the reader can apply the ideas in this book to any period of transformation or reorganization within the Army. While it is impossible to put everything you will need to know about transformation in one source document, this book will build a solid base of fundamentals of who, what, when, where, and why we transform.

Book Visualising Business Transformation

Download or read book Visualising Business Transformation written by Jonathan Whelan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business transformation typically involves a wide range of visualisation techniques, from the templates and diagrams used by managers to make better strategic choices, to the experience maps used by designers to understand customer needs, the technical models used by architects to propose possible solutions, and the pictorial representations used by change managers to engage stakeholder groups in dialogue. Up until now these approaches have always been dealt with in isolation, in the literature as well as in practice. This is surprising, because although they can look very different, and tend to be produced by distinct groups of people, they are all modelling different aspects of the same thing. Visualising Business Transformation draws them together for the first time into a coherent whole, so that readers from any background can expand their repertoire and understand the context and rationale for each technique across the transformation lifecycle. The book will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers involved in change, whether that is by creating change models themselves (strategists, architects, designers, engineers, business analysts, developers, illustrators, graphic facilitators, etc.), interpreting and using them (sponsors, business change managers, portfolio/programme/project managers, communicators, change champions, etc.), or supporting those involved in change indirectly (trainers, coaches, mentors, higher education establishments and professional training facilities).

Book Transformation Through Destruction

Download or read book Transformation Through Destruction written by David R. Fontijn and published by Sidestone Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over a 1000 tiny bronze artefacts were found alongside the remains of a man in a Dutch barrow that was excavated in laboratory conditions. The objects had been dismantled and taken apart, all to be destroyed by fire in what appears to have been a pars pro toto burial. In essence, a person and a place were being transformed through destruction. Based on the meticulous excavation and a range of specialist and comprehensive studies of finds, a prehistoric burial ritual now can be brought to life in surprising detail. This Iron Age community used extraordinary objects that find their closest counterpart in the elite graves of the Hallstatt culture in Central Europe.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1978 Volume 5 of this Handbook reflects a single theoretical orientation, that characterized by the term human information processing in the literature at the time, but which ranges over a very broad spectrum of cognitive activities. The first two chapters give some overall picture of the background, goals, method, and limitations of the information-processing approach. The remaining chapters treat in detail some principal areas of application – visual processing, mental chronometry, representation of spatial information in memory, problem solving, and the theory of instruction. The first three volumes of the Handbook presented an overview of the field, followed by treatments of conditioning, behavior theory, and human learning and retention. With the fourth volume, the focus of attention shifted from the domain of learning theory to that of cognitive psychology.

Book Transformation Toward a People s Democracy

Download or read book Transformation Toward a People s Democracy written by Suzanne Pharr and published by Virginia Tech Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transformation: Toward a People’s Democracy is a movement book for anyone working for an expansive vision of social justice. Here Suzanne Pharr offers a clear and compelling vision for action amid social and political turmoil. Drawing on decades of work on the frontlines of social movements, Pharr’s writings create a real-time chronicle of on-the-ground organizing and the historical significance of struggles for freedom and democracy. Pharr, a Southern queer feminist and anti-racist organizer, explores the pitfalls and the strengths within social justice movements. Her writings reflect the interchange of ideas and the collective work of thinkers and organizers who led activists to lift up the liberation of gender and sexuality, to fight both domestic and state violence, to advance anti-racist strategies and the leadership of people of color, to work against the advancement of rapacious capitalism, and to confront the rise of the Right in all of its forms. Transformation examines not just what happened but how it happened in the battles against numerous forms of oppression including economic injustice, racism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, and nationalism. Taken together, Pharr’s writings give activists and scholars a way to understand decades of attacks on civil rights while offering a roadmap that shows the way toward a people’s democracy where everyone has full participation, voice, a fair share of the benefits, justice, and dignity.
