Book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players

Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players written by Michele Elaine Rupe and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of an aiming apparatus on female collegiate basketball players' shooting accuracy. The study was conducted with two Division II Women's basketball programs during the 1994-95 season. The experimental and control groups participated in a pre-test, mid-test and post-test to measure shooting accuracy changes over a 16 week period between Dec . 1, 1994 and Feb. 28, 1995. Each test consisted of 65 field goal attempts from 13 designated spots out to and including three point range, along the baseline, at 45 degree angles, and straight out from the basket as well as 20 free throw attempts. The control group did not participate in practice sessions with the device. The practice sessions were designed to examine the effect of immediate transfer by including a set of shots with the device followed by immediate practice on a basket without the device. The results ofthe experimental group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores while using the device for 30 practice sessions were compared to the results of the control group's pre-test, mid-test, and post- test scores without the use of the device or practice sessions to determine significance. A Repeated Measures of ANOVA statistical test was used to determine if a significant difference existed between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores. Alpha was chosen at the .05 level. The experimental group improved in all four categories of shooting when comparing their scores with and without the device during the 30 practice sessions. The overall field goal percentage increased from 60.9% to 65.9%, the two point percentage from 74.4% to 77.2%, three point percentage from 39.5% to 48%, and free throw percentage from 76.3% to 78. 1%. Even though the study found positive results in the experimental group's shooting percentages in the four categories, significant difference was not found between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores"--Document.

Book The Effect of Massed Versus Distributed Practice on Free Throw Shooting Accuracy

Download or read book The Effect of Massed Versus Distributed Practice on Free Throw Shooting Accuracy written by Michael F. Novak and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifth and sixth grade boys (N = 38) participated in the free throw study to examine the effects of massed and distributed practice during a 10-session experimental program. Ss were randomly assigned to two groups: a massed practice group (n = 19), and a distributed practice group (n = 19). Each S in the massed practice group practiced 20 consecutive free throws during each session. Each S in the distributed practice group practiced 20 free throws, attempted two free throws then waited until every other subject in his sub-group had attempted two free throws before taking his next turn. An ANCOVA produced P> .05 between the massed practice free throw shooting method and the distributed practice free throw shooting method. Results of using the adjusted mean scores indicated that the massed practice group showed the greater increase in improvement over the distributed practice group.

Book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting in the Game of Basketball

Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting in the Game of Basketball written by Jeffrey Michael Ahmann and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an aiming apparatus for use in the game of basketball. The aiming apparatus is designed to help improve the shooting accuracy of basketball players by: 1) providing a specific target, 2) presenting true visual basket size and, 3) allowing only shots of the optimal angle of projection to be successful. The subjects used in the study were twelve members of the Eastern Washington University NCAA Division I men's basketball team. The study took place during the second half of the 1993-94 regular college basketball season. The study involved a pre test followed by six weeks of practice on the "Super Shot" training device. A post test was then administered following the six weeks of practice with the training device. The results of the post test were compared to the results of the pre test to determine significance. An independent t test was used to determine if significant differences could be found at the p>.10 level. The Eastern Washington University men's basketball team game statistics were also studied for differences. The statistics from the first fourteen games of the season (pre "training device" practice) were compared to the statistics of the last twelve games of the season during which the "Super Shot" training device was being utilized for shooting practice. This study found positive results in the overall shooting percentages of the pre test and post test scores but did not find significance. Substantial improvement was found in the team's overall three point shooting percentage and the team's overall free throw shooting percentage between the first fourteen games of the season vs. the last twelve games of the season. Further study is recommended utilizing the "Super Shot" shooting apparatus as well as the reliability and validity of the training device and the shooting test administered ("The Ahmann Shooting Test")"--Document.
