Book Trajectories of Artificial Celestial Bodies as Determined from Observations Trajectoires des Corps Celestes Artificiels D termin es D apr s les Observations

Download or read book Trajectories of Artificial Celestial Bodies as Determined from Observations Trajectoires des Corps Celestes Artificiels D termin es D apr s les Observations written by J. Kovalevsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 1962 the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) organized a symposium in Paris on the theory of the movement of the Earth's artificial satellites designated to confront the results of the first spatial experiences with the mechanical point of view. The papers submitted during this meeting have been published in 1963 in a collection entitled "Dynamics of Satellites" by Springer Verlag. During the last three years the importance of studies pertaining to the dynamics of artificial satellites has continued to increase, and many results due to observations have led to a deeper knowledge of the field of forces in which these objects move, particularly the field of gravitation of the Earth, the forces due to pressure of radiation, friction of the atmosphere, etc . . . A new symposium seemed therefore suitable to determine these recent advances. However, this time it appeared appropriate to consider it more from the point of view of the interpretation obtained from the results of observations (determination of orbits and forces existing) than from the point of view of the theory of motion. For this reason the complete title of the second symposium is as follows: "Trajectories of Artificial Celestial Bodies, as Determined from Observations".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers most of the lectures and communications presented at the meeting t held in Bordeaux from the 27th to the 29 h of September and entitled "Far from equi librium : instabilities and structures". This meeting is part of a series of seve ral other interdisciplinary conferences such as Elmau 1972, London 1974, Dortmund 1976, Elmau 1977, Tokyo 1978. The old science classification scheme proposed by Auguste Comte tends to be eve ry day a bit more blurred out: one gives here, if needed, one additional illustra tion of this trend. The three key words "far from equilibrium", "instabilities" and "structures" best illustrate the new concepts which emerge from the description of the dynamics of various systems relevant to many different research areas. Laser emission, chemical reactions, fluid motions, exhibit very particular phenomena when, under appropriate external action, they occur far from equilibrium. These proceedings include the experimental description of such phenomena as well as theoretical at tempts in understanding them. Most of the topics investigated here belong to the domains of physics and chemistry but one should be careful not to underestimate the underlying potential biological interest. If the study of simple systems (e. g. , described by a few variables) has been qui te successful for several centuries, the recent bearing of our attention on complex systems constitutes a genuine epistemological breakthrough bridging the gap which used to exist between the sciences and the humanism.

Book Advanced Problems and Methods for Space Flight Optimization

Download or read book Advanced Problems and Methods for Space Flight Optimization written by B. Fraeijs De Veubeke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Problems and Methods for Space Flight Optimization presents the optimization theory and its application to space flight. This book covers a wide range of topics, including optimal guidance, general mathematical methods of optimization, optimal transfer trajectories, and optimization of design parameters. Organized into 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the approximate analytic solution developed for minimum fuel guidance from an arbitrary point on a hyperbolic orbit into a definite circular orbit. This text then determines the maximum range trajectory for a glider entering the Earth's atmosphere at a supercircular velocity. Other chapters consider the economical transfers between Keplerian orbits, which has made considerable progress in the time-free case. This book discusses as well the Pontryagin Maximum Principle used to determine the optimal transfers between arbitrary coaxial ellipses. The final chapter deals with the synthesis of minimum-fuel controls for a class of aerospace control problems. This book is a valuable resource for aerospace engineers.

Book International Symposium on Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics

Download or read book International Symposium on Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics written by Joseph Lasalle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics provides information pertinent to nonlinear differential equations, nonlinear mechanics, control theory, and other related topics. This book discusses the properties of solutions of equations in standard form in the infinite time interval. Organized into 49 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the characteristic types of differential equation systems with small parameters. This text then explains the structurally stable fields on a differentiable two manifold are the ones that exhibit the simplest features. Other chapters explore the canonic system of hyperbolic partial differential equations with fixed characteristics. This book discusses as well the monofrequent oscillations that are predominantly near one or the other of the linear modes of motion. The final chapter deals with the existence and asymptotic character of solutions of the nonlinear boundary value problem. This book is a valuable resource for pure and applied mathematicians. Aircraft engineers will also find this book useful.

Book High Dimensional Probability II

Download or read book High Dimensional Probability II written by Evarist Giné and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High dimensional probability, in the sense that encompasses the topics rep resented in this volume, began about thirty years ago with research in two related areas: limit theorems for sums of independent Banach space valued random vectors and general Gaussian processes. An important feature in these past research studies has been the fact that they highlighted the es sential probabilistic nature of the problems considered. In part, this was because, by working on a general Banach space, one had to discard the extra, and often extraneous, structure imposed by random variables taking values in a Euclidean space, or by processes being indexed by sets in R or Rd. Doing this led to striking advances, particularly in Gaussian process theory. It also led to the creation or introduction of powerful new tools, such as randomization, decoupling, moment and exponential inequalities, chaining, isoperimetry and concentration of measure, which apply to areas well beyond those for which they were created. The general theory of em pirical processes, with its vast applications in statistics, the study of local times of Markov processes, certain problems in harmonic analysis, and the general theory of stochastic processes are just several of the broad areas in which Gaussian process techniques and techniques from probability in Banach spaces have made a substantial impact. Parallel to this work on probability in Banach spaces, classical proba bility and empirical process theory were enriched by the development of powerful results in strong approximations.

Book Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Systems written by A.J. Fossard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Systems is divided into three volumes. The first deals with modeling and estimation, the second with stability and stabilization and the third with control. This three-volume set provides the most comprehensive and detailed reference available on nonlinear systems. Written by a group of leading experts in the field, drawn from industry, government and academic institutions, it provides a solid theoretical basis on nonlinear control methods as well as practical examples and advice for engineers, teachers and researchers working with nonlinear systems. Each book focuses on the applicability of the concepts introduced and keeps the level of mathematics to a minimum. Simulations and industrial examples drawn from aerospace as well as mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering are given throughout.
