Book Where There is No Animal Doctor

Download or read book Where There is No Animal Doctor written by Maureen Birmingham and published by Christian Veterinary Mission. This book was released on 2007 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an amazing manual covering animal functions of all the major domestic animals. It contains an incredible amount of information in one volume. It is written in a simple, easy to understand style, supplemented with many good illustrations. This book was developed to benefit rural people in many areas of the world where livestock still play an important role in village life. It deals with many different animal health related topics, including disease prevention, control and treatment, and the promotion of good animal nutrition. Specifically, the authors hope that this book will be useful for people living in areas where there is no veterinarian available. It is hoped that people who use this book will be able to realize which disease conditions they can handle on their own and when to call for help from more experienced animal health workers. This book is also available in Spanish, and Tamil.

Book East Africa Animal Feed Action Plan

Download or read book East Africa Animal Feed Action Plan written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The regional animal feed action plan was formulated through a consultative and participatory process building on experiences and lessons learnt by wide spectrum of key stakeholders in public and private sectors, notably, policy makers, traders, pastoralist and farmers' organizations, civil society, NGOs, and the development partners. It builds on the earlier consultative experience sharing workshop on feed by USAID, ILRI, IGAD and FAO in the region. The plan provides broad opportunities for partnerships with producers, governments, and private sector, development and humanitarian organizations at the national and regional levels. It provides a guided approach to collectively tackle the problems of animal feed and pave the way for sustainable production of quality animals and products while improving competitiveness, profitability and ensuring sustainable feed resource management for the entire Eastern African region. The aim of the action plan is to provide guidelines to communities, countries, private sector and livestock stakeholders to optimally utilize the available feed resources in East Africa to increase the supply as well as improve the quality of animals, products and by-products and to maximize the economic and social benefits of the livestock sector.

Book HIV Health and Your Community

Download or read book HIV Health and Your Community written by Reuben Granich and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide for health care workers worldwide, especially in areas with few medical resources. Designed as a manual for people confronting the HIV epidemic in their communities, no medical or technical knowledge or prior training in HIV prevention and care of people with AIDS is required. Topics range from the biology of the virus to designing successful prevention programmes and writing grant proposals. Risk factors for infection are discussed and suggestions given of helpful methods for explaining them and assisting people to change their behaviour. Extensive discussions of complex medical treatments not available to 95 percent of the people in the world who have HIV are avoided, focusing instead on medical interventions available in less industrialized settings. Illustrations highlight important topics and increase the accessibility of the text. An appendix aimed at readers with medical training discusses common AIDS-related illnesses and their treatment.

Book Manual on Participatory Epidemiology

Download or read book Manual on Participatory Epidemiology written by Jeffrey C. Mariner and published by Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). This book was released on 2000 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Participatory techniques for data gathering have been known to agriculturists for some years. However, it is only relatively recently that these techniques have been adopted by veterinarians for use in the discipline of epidemiology. Their use has been effective, and the techniques are being further developed and refined by veterinary epidemiologists in various parts of the world. Participatory appraisal methods show great promise in developing regions and, with the Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme (GREP) in an advanced stage, the publication of this manual is particularly timely. An appendix has therefore also been included, dealing specifically with rinderpest and the stomatitis-enteritis complex of diseases. It is hoped that the material in this publication will both advance disease control and eradication efforts and stimulate further application of these innovative techniques. [FAO website]
