Book Education and Training in Europe

Download or read book Education and Training in Europe written by Giorgio Brunello and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2007-05-17 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Europe is certainly one of the richest and most educated areas of the world, some of the challenges faced by the old continent are staggering: low economic growth, structural difficulties in the labour market, and increasing international competition. Politicians and policymakers may advocate different means of overcoming the potential economic decline of Europe, but most agree that Europe needs to strengthen human capital, its ultimate competitive advantage in the world economy. This book looks at the accumulation of human capital from two perspectives, first through formal education and then professional training. It provides a useful summary of the key characteristics of education and training in Europe and also asks key questions about the fundamental problems with the current educational and training systems. More importantly, the book goes on to discuss which policies are necessary to make existing education and training systems more efficient, while also making higher skills available to a wider range of people.

Book Understanding EU Decision Making

Download or read book Understanding EU Decision Making written by Edward Best and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-04 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a concise and accessible way why the EU institutional system exists in its present form, how the EU fits into the world as a system of governance, and who is involved in EU policy processes. It outlines the historical context which has shaped the EU system, gives a summary of the system's basic principles and structures, and describes its actors, procedures and instruments. The main theme is to show that EU decision-making is not just a matter of action at some higher and separate level, of ‘them and us’, but rather that it involves different forms of cooperation between European, national and regional authorities, as well as interaction between public and private actors. Numerous short case studies illustrate how people’s day-to-day activities are affected by EU decisions, and how individuals’ concerns are represented in the decision-making process. The book provides insights and examples which will be very helpful for all students of European integration. It will also be a valuable resource for European citizens wishing to understand the basic realities and rationales, as well as some of the dilemmas, behind EU policy-making.

Book E learning and Training in Europe

Download or read book E learning and Training in Europe written by European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E-learning has the potential to change education and training radically, open new ways of learning and increase the ability of people to acquire new skills. It has created new markets for teaching and learning material and equipment. Despite its importance, there is a shortage of information on the extent of e-learning and its rate of growth. This survey, while not a statistically representative sample, covers a range of organisations of different size and type from all EU countries. As such, it provides insight about the rate of the development of e-learning in the EU, the differences between the Member States. The survey was carried out online on the European Training Village (ETV) website www.trainingvillage.gr, by Cedefop, in 2001.

Book Convergence and Divergence in European Education and Training Systems

Download or read book Convergence and Divergence in European Education and Training Systems written by Andy Green and published by UCL Institute of Education Press (University College London Institute of Education Press). This book was released on 1999 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique picture of education and training in the EU between the early 1980s and the late 1990s. It synthesizes a wealth of research, policy documents and original data from the fifteen Member States and from the European Commission. The advent of the Single Market and of the euro have focused attention on economic integration in Europe; while discussions of globalization also emphasize common trends and economic convergence. Convergence and Divergence in European Education and Training Systems demonstrates that, while European education and training systems are responding to powerful general trends, they remain highly distinctive, with no obvious movement towards a single common pattern.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To benefit the European Union(EU) and its citizens, the EU has set education and training(ET) goals to be achieved by 2010 that will reflect the diversity of languages, cultures, and systems that are an inherent part of the identity of its countries and their regions. Diversity is valued, but need for cooperation and mobility in ET is growing. The open method of coordination has been defined as a way to enable mutual comparison and learning and limit risks inherent in change and reform. In the detailed work program, 3 identified strategic objectives are broken down into 13 objectives and 42 key issues that must be addressed to achieve them. Strategic objective (SO) 1 (improve quality and effectiveness of ET systems), has five objectives; SO 2 (facilitate access of all to ET systems) has three; and SO 3 (open up ET systems to the wider world) has five. For each objective, key issues are set out and an indicative list is provided of the instruments that will be used to foster and monitor progress. An integrated approach to policy development will be steered and monitored. (An appendix lists 16 key documents and web sites.)(YLB).
