Book TRADOC Support to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm

Download or read book TRADOC Support to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm written by Henry O. Malone and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the commitment of U.S. forces to the United Nations military action to counter the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, the Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) played an important role in support of the subsequent U.S. Army deployment of 300,000 troops to the Persian Gulf as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Added to TRADOC's peacetime charge to prepare the Army for war were direct wartime tasks related to the mobilization, movement, and the training and combat-doctrinal development support of soldiers and supplies in and through the Army training and school installations that TRADOC commanded, together with care on the homefront for the families of the soldiers involved. This TRADOC Historical Study is a preliminary examination of TRADOC support to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. It was undertaken to provide the TRADOC commander and staff an early documented assessment of the command's support role in that joint and combined endeavor that culminated in the expulsion of Iraqi forces from Kuwait in early 1991. A comprehensive analytical record of the support which Headquarters TRADOC and its installations, schools, and activities rendered to the Army in the Persian Gulf operations will follow in a more detailed historical monograph to be published in 1994.

Book The United States Army Reserve in Operation Desert Storm Augmenting the Training Base The Army Reserve in Support of TRADOC

Download or read book The United States Army Reserve in Operation Desert Storm Augmenting the Training Base The Army Reserve in Support of TRADOC written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important yet unheralded mission, which fell to the Army Reserve in Operation DESERT STORM, was to augment the Army's training base by providing support to the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). TRADOC is the second largest of the Army's Major Commands, and it has the responsibility to develop doctrine on how to fight, design units and organizations to do the fighting, and train and educate military personnel to do the fighting and support the fighters. Through one of its major missions--training--TRADOC has an immediate and recurring impact on every soldier in the Total Army. The Army Reservists assigned to TRADOC and supporting that command during Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM, also left a significant imprint on the soldiers of all components, as they geared up to meet Iraq's challenge to the states of the Persian Gulf. This monograph explains how TRADOC met its own challenges in mobilization support and expanding the Army's training capacity, assisted ably by the Army Reserve.

Book Airpower against an Army Challenge and Response in CENTAF s Duel with the Republican Guard

Download or read book Airpower against an Army Challenge and Response in CENTAF s Duel with the Republican Guard written by William F. Andrews and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly two decades the United States Air Force (USAF) oriented the bulk of its thinking, acquisition, planning, and training on the threat of a Soviet blitzkrieg across the inter German border. The Air Force fielded a powerful conventional arm well rehearsed in the tactics required to operate over a central European battlefield. Then, in a matter of days, the 1990 invasion of Kuwait altered key assumptions that had been developed over the previous decade and a half. The USAF faced a different foe employing a different military doctrine in an unexpected environment. Instead of disrupting a fast paced land offensive, the combat wings of the United States Central Command Air Forces (CENTAF) were ordered to attack a large, well fortified, and dispersed Iraqi ground force. The heart of that ground force was the Republican Guard Forces Command (RGFC). CENTAF's mission dictated the need to develop an unfamiliar repertoire of tactics and procedures to meet theater objectives. How effectively did CENTAF adjust air operations against the Republican Guard to the changing realities of combat? Answering that question is central to this study, and the answer resides in evaluation of the innovations developed by CENTAF to improve its operational and tactical performance against the Republican Guard. Effectiveness and timeliness are the primary criteria used for evaluating innovations.

Book The 54th Forward Support Battalion in Desert Shield Desert Storm

Download or read book The 54th Forward Support Battalion in Desert Shield Desert Storm written by Roslyn M. Goff and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From May 31, 1989 to June 6, 1991, I commanded the 54th Forward Support Battalion (FSB) supporting Third Brigade, Third Armor Division in Friedberg, Germany. This great battalion has many achievements to its credit but none so outstanding as its performance in the Southwest Asian Theater of Operations from early January to mid June 1991. I write this monograph for several reasons. First, to give due credit to the incredible courage and determination of the soldiers who never failed to surprise me with what they accomplished in the most trying of circumstances. Second, to illustrate that there is no substitute for training in preparation for war. Lastly, to discuss several logistic issues that require the attention of the Army leadership. I discuss the experience from the perspective of a forward deployed CSS commander. Therefore, a good deal of the discussion focuses on logistics rather than the details of battle. However, Appendix A provides a general timeline that may aid the reader. At Appendix B is the VII Corps Deployment and Plan of attack in which Third Armor Division participated. it will help place the reader geographically. At Appendix Care the graphics of the Third Armor Division's campaign, Operation Desert Spear 24-28 February 1991.

Book Operation Desert Shield Desert Storm First Infantry Division Fort Riley Kansas

Download or read book Operation Desert Shield Desert Storm First Infantry Division Fort Riley Kansas written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all know the results of the 2 August, 1991, invasion of Kuwait. As events unfolded, it became clear that some form of U.S. military involvement would be required. Many commanders began immediate planning foreseeing the likely deployment of their units and questions immediately surfaced around the impacts of missions defend or attack. The implied mission of defend appeared to be the initial planning factor. As the commitment of U.S. forces began, a rotation concept was discussed. Most thought a one year rotation would be the likely outcome. In November, the decision was reached to mass sufficient power in the Gulf to allow sufficient flexibility to support an offensive option. Consequently, additional forces were identified and the implementation process began. The First Infantry Division was officially alerted on or about 8 November, 1990. I served as a battalion commander within the division. Sadly, I ruptured a lower disc while in the field on 17 October. 1 had the disc removed on 2 November. Normal recovery for such surgery is nine months to one year. A few days after the surgery, I was informed that I would be replaced after twenty-five months in command as I was non-deployable. The commanding general decided to make me the headquarters commandant since I knew the post and the base support structure plus I was an experienced commander. The Headquarters Command grew into a thirteen company organization of close to two thousand soldiers. It was a mix of active and reserve component units organized to support the post and the deployment.

Book The U S Army in Transition II

Download or read book The U S Army in Transition II written by Frederic Joseph Brown and published by Potomac Books. This book was released on 1993 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The U.S. Army again faces a major turning point. Having proven in the Gulf War that it has fully recovered from its post-Vietnam low, it must adapt to the high-technology challenges of the Information Age in a post-Cold War world of reduced defense expenditures. The last time the Army was drastically downsized - just after World War II - the result was the nearly catastrophic rout of its forces in Korea. This is a lesson that forward-thinking soldiers, such as the author of The U.S. Army in Transition II, have not forgotten. Former chief of the Army's armor forces and coauthor of the landmark 1973 work The United States Army in Transition (I), Lt. Gen. Frederic J. Brown was one of the key thinkers behind the Army's recent successes. His latest book establishes the next creative framework for dealing with the tough issues facing today's custodians of U.S. landpower. It will stimulate discussion among all concerned with America's security at this watershed in world history."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book American Army Doctrine for the Post Cold War

Download or read book American Army Doctrine for the Post Cold War written by John L. Romjue and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1998-12 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1991 and 1993, the Army formulated a fighting doctrine recast to fit the power demands of a new strategic world. This new power-order replaced the Army's earlier "AirLand Battle" doctrine, first issued in 1982. This monograph addresses several questions revolving around the rapid replacement, less than 2 years after its success in the desert war, of a recognized and successful fighting doctrine. Discusses the roots of U.S. Army doctrine and the antecedent developments leading to the Army's recasting of its key battle doctrine. Examines the mechanism of the process of change, the effects of the new doctrine and how it was implemented.
