This book was released on 2022-03-09 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Health Programmes and Empowerment of Rural Women: An Evaluation with special reference to District Almora, Uttarakhand” deals with evidence-based findings that emerge directly from the studies carried out in field. Rural women of Uttarakhand are the backbone of the social, economic and cultural structure of the State. They not only look after the young and the old in the household, but also carry out a number of chores and are consistently put to arduous multi-tasking. Of late, concern for their health, has become one of the focal points in the policy arena. It is also well known that there is an intrinsic relationship between women’s health and their empowerment. In-depth analysis resulting from field study of the impact of different health programmes for women launched by the government has been presented in the book. The impact of programmes which have bearing on women's health, such as NRHM (now NHM), JSY, JSSK, VHND, RCH, ARSH, RBSK and immunisation programmes have been covered in detail. Conclusions are drawn based on data collected from field. The analysis of this data provides a deep insight into the true picture of the health programmes in hill villages. The book presents an in-depth study and field reality on women-health related issues and impact of different government programmes. A methodology of calculating Health Empowerment Index (HEI) for rural women has also been devised. The endeavour has been to evaluate the impact of health schemes on rural women in the study area. It is expected that the book would generate interest amongst the policy makers, social scientists, scholars and people working in the field of development planning with special concern for empowerment of rural women and also provide impetus to further studies in the area.

Book Celebrating Life Customs around the World 3 volumes

Download or read book Celebrating Life Customs around the World 3 volumes written by Victoria R. Williams and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 1427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents hundreds of customs and traditions practiced in countries outside of the United States, showcasing the diversity of birth, coming-of-age, and death celebrations worldwide. From the beginning of our lives to the end, all of humanity celebrates life's milestones through traditions and unique customs. In the United States, we have specific events like baby showers, rites of passage such as Bat and Bar Mitzvahs and "sweet 16" birthday parties, and sober end-of-life traditions like obituaries and funeral services that honor those who have died. But what kinds of customs and traditions are practiced in other countries? How do people in other cultures welcome babies, prepare to enter into adulthood, and commemorate the end of the lives of loved ones? This three-volume encyclopedia covers more than 300 birth, life, and death customs, with the books' content organized chronologically by life stage. Volume 1 focuses on birth and childhood customs, Volume 2 documents adolescent and early-adulthood customs, and Volume 3 looks at aging and death customs. The entries in the first volume examine pre-birth traditions, such as baby showers and other gift-giving events, and post-birth customs, such as naming ceremonies, child-rearing practices, and traditions performed to ward off evil or promote good health. The second volume contains information about rites of passage as children become adults, including indigenous initiations, marriage customs, and religious ceremonies. The final volume concludes with coverage on customs associated with aging and death, such as retirement celebrations, elaborate funeral processions, and the creation of fantasy coffins. The set features beautiful color inserts that illustrate examples of celebrations and ceremonies and includes an appendix of excerpts from primary documents that include legislation on government-accepted names, wedding vows, and maternity/paternity leave regulations.

Book Mountain Echoes Reminiscences of Kumaoni Women

Download or read book Mountain Echoes Reminiscences of Kumaoni Women written by Namita Gokhale and published by Roli Books Private Limited. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘The history of women is left to us in folklore and tradition, in faintly-remembered lullabies and the half-forgotten touch of a grandmother’s hand, in recipes, ancestral jewellery, and cautionary tales about the limits of a woman’s empowerment. Mountain Echoes describes the Kumaoni way of life through the eyes of four highly-talented and individualistic women. Their recollections mirror a social universe that no longer exists, that has been dissolved in the mainstream of modernization and urbanization, of democracy, education and emancipation. Shivani, Tare Pande, Jiya, and Shakuntala Pande were all alive and well when this book was first published in 1998. In the midst of all the rapid and unrecognizable charge that surrounds us, their stories and their memories are distilled into an even more precious evocation of times past.’
