Book excerpt: This is an imminently practical workbook that shows a variety of invaluable techniques to get centered, calm and organized. An effective and enjoyable guide to help you feel in charge of yourself." ~ Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. This is the workbook that all mental health professionals wish they had at the beginning of their careers. Containing over 100 approaches to effectively deal with trauma, this workbook pulls together a wide array of treatments into one concise resource. Equally useful in both group and individual settings, these interventions will provide hope and healing for the client, as well as expand and solidify the professional's expertise. Tools and techniques drawn from the most effective trauma modalities: * Art Therapy * CBT * DBT * EFT * EMDR * Energy Psychology * Focusing * Gestalt Therapy * Guided Imagery * Mindfulness * Psychodrama * Sensorimotor Psychology * Somatic Experiencing and Movement Therapies -BONUS: Book includes a link to all reproducible worksheets! Print and use with clients right away!! Praise for 101 Trauma-Informed Interventions: “Linda Curran's unflagging energy and dedication to the healing of traumatized individuals has led to a voluminous, exciting, and comprehensive, 101 Trauma Informed Interventions. This workbook provides a plethora of effective tools -- traditional as well as innovative -- that can be used in whole or as a part of a course of therapy and also as self-help. The variety of options offered goes a long way towards dispelling the (unfortunately) popular misconception that there are only a limited number of interventions that help people to recover from trauma. Survivors as well as therapists who have been frustrated by the rigidity of strict adherence to evidence based practice will be greatly relieved to find a wealth of useful strategies to experiment, evaluate, and sort into a personally tailored trauma recovery program. This workbook is a god-send for the trauma field, expanding the possibilities for recovery in a most generous way.” ~ Babette Rothschild, MSW author of The Body Remembers and 8 Keys to Safe Trauma Recovery "Linda Curran has carefully and knowledgeably curated a practical, effective collection of interventions that actually work for trauma survivors. Any clinician committed to helping those suffering from posttraumatic stress needs to have these tools and resources to draw upon, because standard talk therapy, nine times out of ten, is simply not going to cut it. These exercises will." ~ Belleruth Naparstek, LISW, author of Invisible Heroes: Survivors of Trauma and How They Heal “Drawing from the whole spectrum of trauma-based therapies, Linda Curran has compiled a sampling of practical exercises designed to help therapists and their clients better navigate the mine field that trauma work can be and find the path to healing.” ~ Richard Schwartz, Ph.D. author of Internal Family Systems Therapy "101 Trauma-Informed Interventions provides an accessible functional “playbook” for therapists committed to the rehabilitation of the client with a trauma history. In a readable volume Curran integrates diverse approaches of treatment and emphasizes the unique role that trauma plays in mental health. Underlying this eclectic strategy is the common theme emphasizing that healing will only begin when the trauma related feelings embedded in the body are appreciated." ~ Stephen W. Porges, Ph.D., author of The Polyvagal Theory "An interesting compendium of potential interventions that can be interwoven into any therapist's existing conceptual framework" ~ Louis Cozolino, Ph.D., Pepperdine University, and author of 5 books including the best-seller The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy, Healing the Social Brain (2nd edition)

Book Facial Oral Tract Therapy F O T T

Download or read book Facial Oral Tract Therapy F O T T written by Ricki Nusser-Müller-Busch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers a comprehensive approach to the assessment and treatment of disturbances in facial expression, oral movement, swallowing, breathing, voice and speech production caused by developmental and acquired neurological conditions. The principles outlined are used in patients with different etiologies (e.g. stroke, tumors, traumas). F.O.T. T., developed by Kay Coombes, is a hands-on approach based on an understanding of neurological functions and the way we learn from experience. The approach aims to give the patient experience of physiological posture and movement using facial-oral functions in normal activities of daily living (ADL). Rather than mere “exercises”, F.O.T.T involves meaningful activities aiming to promote participation, according to ICF criteria. Four main areas are covered: nutrition, oral hygiene, nonverbal communication and speech. Each chapter summarises the problems of severely ill patients and shows the clinical reasoning behind the solutions offered. Separate chapters discuss tracheostomy management and the training of the carers involved, including relatives. The chapter authors are experienced specialists (physio-, occupational- and speech-language therapists and physicians), whose contributions aim to provide interdisciplinary perspectives and translate latest research into clinical practice.

Download or read book The Journey to Hope written by Becca C. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journey to Hope is for the many - far too many - who have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and neglect. It is a journey of healing for those of us who have been hurt, abused, belittled, or shamed; who have felt betrayed, blamed or confused. Everyone's story is unique. Some are able to describe their abuse, while others struggle to find words to explain what happened. No matter where you are or what happened, your story matters. The path towards healing can be painful and incredibly challenging at times. The Journey to Hope will guide you in navigating and persevering through the pain. As you face the past abuse, you will be free to move forward unencumbered by the pain and shame others have caused. As healing begins, life-giving hope returns. If you seek healing, hope and a life restored, The Journey to Hope is for you. More... The journey to Hope was written to help those who have suffered from abuse, neglect or trauma. It was also written for friends, family and professionals who want to understand and to help. The author writes, "I once led a 10-week support group for those who had been sexually abused. During our first two weeks I told everyone that they would have the opportunity to share their story during the last two weeks (this is what therapists refer to as the Trauma Narrative, considered key to healing). When week 9 arrived and I asked who would like to share, only one person volunteered. So, for the last session I compiled various checklists related to the who, what, why, when and how of abuse - checklists that provided the words to describe, explain and express what had happened. Once they were given these and completed them, everyone in the group decided to share." Woven within the pages of this book are many of the steps considered essential in trauma recovery. You chose how involved you want to be - depending on your level of emotional safety and support - whether to first learn about the trauma of abuse or to also complete various checklists which focus on individual recovery. This book guides the abused through the process of sharing their story in a way that is helpful and non-retraumatizing. The information and checklists take you on an intentional healing adventure, not always smooth and pain-free, but definitely worth the destination - Hope.

Book Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms in Disease

Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms in Disease written by J.L. VanLancker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of ingenious experiments, imaginative theories, and unshakable faith in supreme forces, there is no way to know how life began. What is certain is that in the course of the development of the universe existing sources of energy fused to generate atoms, and atoms mingled to become small molecules. At some point by chance or design-according to one's belief, but no one's evidence-small molecules such as hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, water, and ammonia reacted to yield larger molecules with the property most essential to life: self-replication. Such molecules had to achieve a proper balance between the stability needed for their survival in the environment and the mutability for the generation of many forms of life. How amino acids were created or how DNA, RNA, and proteins developed remains a mystery. But we know that a simple core of nucleic acid embedded in a protein coat made the simplest unit of life (except for viroids). Whether viruses are a primitive or degenerated form of life is not known. Once proteins appeared, their great structural plasticity allowed them to react with other elements such as sulfur, iron, copper, and zinc. After an incalculable number of years, some of the proteins became capable of catalyzing the synthesis of new nucleic acids, new proteins, and other compounds such as polysaccharides and lipids.
