Book Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions

Download or read book Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions written by International Energy Agency and published by OECD/IEA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industry accounts for about one-third of global energy demand. Most of that energy is used to produce raw materials: chemicals, iron and steel, non-metallic minerals, pulp and paper and non-ferrous metals. Just how efficiently is this energy put to work? 'Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions' shows how industrial energy efficiency has improved over the last 25 years. Yet important opportunities for additional gains remain, which is evident when the efficiencies of different countries are compared. This analysis identifies the leaders and the laggards. It explains clearly a complex issue for non-experts.

Book Enhancement of Industrial Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Download or read book Enhancement of Industrial Energy Efficiency and Sustainability written by Andrea Trianni and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial energy efficiency has been recognized as a major contributor, in the broader set of industrial resources, to improved sustainability and circular economy. Nevertheless, the uptake of energy efficiency measures and practices is still quite low, due to the existence of several barriers. Research has broadly discussed them, together with their drivers. More recently, many researchers have highlighted the existence of several benefits, beyond mere energy savings, stemming from the adoption of such measures, for several stakeholders involved in the value chain of energy efficiency solutions. Nevertheless, a deep understanding of the relationships between the use of the energy resource and other resources in industry, together with the most important factors for the uptake of such measures—also in light of the implications on the industrial operations—is still lacking. However, such understanding could further stimulate the adoption of solutions for improved industrial energy efficiency and sustainability.

Book Energy Efficient Manufacturing

Download or read book Energy Efficient Manufacturing written by John W. Sutherland and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several years, manufacturers have expressed increasing interest in reducing their energy consumption and have begun to search for opportunities to reduce their energy usage. In this book, the authors explore a variety of opportunities to reduce the energy footprint of manufacturing. These opportunities cover the entire spatial scale of the manufacturing enterprise: from unit process-oriented approaches to enterprise-level strategies. Each chapter examines some aspect of this spatial scale, and discusses and describes the opportunities that exist at that level. Case studies demonstrate how the opportunity may be acted on with practical guidance on how to respond to these opportunities.

Book Implementing Energy Efficiency Policies

Download or read book Implementing Energy Efficiency Policies written by International Energy Agency and published by OECD. This book was released on 2009 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns about energy security, climate change and rising energy costs make it imperative for all countries to significantly improve their energy efficiency. To assist them in doing so, the IEA has proposed 25 energy efficiency recommendations. These recommendations could, if implemented globally without delay, reduce global CO2 emissions by 8.2 gigatonnes per year by 2030, equivalent to roughly two-times the amount of current EU CO2 emissions. Yet are IEA member countries doing enough to capture the full potential benefits from energy efficiency policy? This innovative book provides the first assessment of IEA member countries' progress on implementing energy efficiency policy. Using a rigorous evaluation process, it finds that while these countries are implementing a full range of energy efficiency measures, their efforts fall short. Pressing energy, climate and financial challenges require even more energy efficiency policy action, particularly in the transport sector. To address this action gap, IEA member countries must urgently ramp up their energy efficiency policy efforts.

Book Potential for Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term

Download or read book Potential for Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term written by J. de Beer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book does not give a prediction of what the efficiency will be of the energy use of industrial processes in the future. However, it does give an exploration of limits to the efficiency of current processes and an indication of what might be achieved if new technologies can be developed. At the Department of Science, Technology and Society of Utrecht University research had been done to the opportunities for improvement of the energy efficiency in the short term since the 1980's. This had resulted in a comprehensive database on energy efficient measures. This database and a possible application are described in Chapter 3 of this book. The use of the database induced new research themes around efficiency improvement, e.g. concerning barriers for implementation of measures. It was around 1993 that I did a preliminary study to the potential for efficiency improvement in the long term. Historical analysis had shown us that the short term potential stayed constant over the years. It seemed to be replenished by the introduction of new technologies. This lead to the question whether there are limits to the efficiency, taking into account both thermodynamic considerations and ideas on the development and dissemination of new technologies.

Book The Impact of Industrial Energy Efficiency on Economic and Social Indicators

Download or read book The Impact of Industrial Energy Efficiency on Economic and Social Indicators written by Alessandra Celani de Macedo and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive and sustainable industrial development implies environmental friendly industrial growth with positive implications for social targets such as employment generation. One of the most important options available to policymakers for reducing CO2 emissions is industrial energy efficiency, which is particularly relevant for the discussion on green industrialization. Despite this intuitive concept, the economics measurement toolkit still lacks a methodological framework to analyse the extent to which energy efficiency interventions can generate simultaneous economic, environmental and employment-related improvements to boost inclusive and sustainable industrial development. This study fills this gap by introducing an original approach based on input-output tables to estimate the impact of improvements in industrial energy efficiency on value added, employment and energy savings among industries in the Republic of North Macedonia. The results show that triple dividends are possible in terms of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Whereas a positive impact on employment is found in every scenario, a positive outcome in terms of value added essentially depends on the country's capacity to produce goods that accommodate firms' increasing demand from their use of energy cost savings.

Book Long Term US Industrial Energy Use and CO2 Emissions

Download or read book Long Term US Industrial Energy Use and CO2 Emissions written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a description and scenario results from our recently-developed long-term model of United States industrial sector energy consumption, which we have incorporated as a module within the ObjECTS-MiniCAM integrated assessment model. This new industrial model focuses on energy technology and fuel choices over a 100 year period and allows examination of the industrial sector response to climate policies within a global modeling framework. A key challenge was to define a level of aggregation that would be able to represent the dynamics of industrial energy demand responses to prices and policies, but at a level that remains tractable over a long time frame. In our initial results, we find that electrification is an important response to a climate policy, although there are services where there are practical and economic limits to electrification, and the ability to switch to a low-carbon fuel becomes key. Cogeneration of heat and power using biomass may also play a role in reducing carbon emissions under a policy constraint.
