Calendar covers four years allowing plenty of space to add historical data if you choose. Section for questions to ask your vet. Space for your notes and observations on the seizure log pages. Why Is It Important to Keep a Seizure Log? There are several important reasons for keeping a seizure diary - to aid in diagnosis, to help you and your vet to make decisions about treatment, and to help you spot patterns and triggers. Diagnosis & Treatment Decisions Writing down what happens before, during and after a seizure can help your vet identify the type of seizures that your dog is experiencing. This is important because some medications are more effective for certain types of seizures. Keeping a record also helps you and your vet decide whether medications are effective or need changing. If seizures get better, stay the same, or get worse after a medication change everyone needs to know. A log will also help you track side effects from medications that you give your dog. All this information helps you and your vet make informed decisions about treatment. This journal allows you to keep all your notes and questions together and to share them when you take your dog to appointments. Patterns & Triggers Writing down the time, where your dog was and what was going on prior to a seizure may help you spot patterns and identify potential triggers. Some common triggers are listed on the seizure record pages as tick box options, and there are spaces to record your own. There is also a notes section for your own thoughts and observations. Identifying triggers could help you make changes that may help your dog. Keeping records will also help you see if any changes you introduce are making a difference. Make record keeping one less thing to worry about by keeping all your dog's information together in a journal specifically designed for epilepsy management.

Book Antiepileptic Drugs

Download or read book Antiepileptic Drugs written by L. Beani and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985 with total page 904 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Epileptic disorders need treatment for many years or even for life, and this makes a thorough understanding of the pharmacokinetics and possible hazards and side effects of the drugs used in treatment mandatory. During recent decades our knowledge in this field has considerably increased, not least as a result of the development of specific and sensitive methods for the determination of anti epileptic agents in biological material. The clinical pharmacology of this group of drugs has been studied extensively and can today be regarded as well established. This does not necessarily mean that drug treatment of epilepsy is without problems. For example, it has recently been shown that one of the newer anti epileptic drugs, greeted with great enthusiasm by clinicians, may in rare instances induce serious damage to the liver and the pancreas, and seems even to have a certain teratogenic potential. Clinical problems should be understood as a challenge to the experimental pharmacologist, who should try to find explanations for the clinical hazards, and, if possible, show new ways in which better drugs might be developed. In recent years interest has focused on the importance of the inhibitory transmitter 'l'-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the pathophysiology of epilepsy, and there have been a series of attempts to find useful antiepileptic drugs among substances interfering with GABA metabolism in the CNS.
