Book Effects of Contamination of Biobased Hydraulic Fluids with Mineral Oil

Download or read book Effects of Contamination of Biobased Hydraulic Fluids with Mineral Oil written by Heinrich W. Theissen and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many occasions for biobased hydraulic fluids to be contaminated with mineral oil, caused either by incomplete flushing during conversion from mineral oil to bio-oil, or by carelessness during maintenance and refilling. With high contamination levels, problems like foaming, poor air release, or filter clogging have been reported. In experiments at IFAS (Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls) of RWTH Aachen University, relevant properties of biobased oils contaminated with different levels of various mineral oils have been analyzed. It was found, that the degree of deterioration correlates not to the amount of mineral oil added, but to the amount of metals introduced through the mineral oil's additives. Deterioration effects may take several hours or days to develop. The effects are specific for different bio-oil products. As a practical consequence, some changes in quality control, product documentation, and standardization are recommended.

Book Evaluation of the Acute Toxicity of Four Water in Oil Emulsion Hydraulic Fluids

Download or read book Evaluation of the Acute Toxicity of Four Water in Oil Emulsion Hydraulic Fluids written by E. R. Kinkead and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a part of the Submarine Damage Prevention program, four commercial water-in-oil emulsion class of compounds consists of stable emulsions of micronic or submicronic water droplets suspended in a high quality petroleum base oil. These fluids also contain special additives to give the final product lubricity, corrosion protection properties, emulsion stabilizers, and resistance to bacterial and fungal growth. The most significant exposure routes for hydraulic fluids are expected to be dermal, due to spills or leaks, and aerosol inhalation, from pressurized system leaks. The studies conducted included eye and skin irritation, skin sensitization, oral and dermal toxicity, and aerosol inhalation. They also provided data to compare the short-term exposure effects of these various emulsions. None of the testbed compounds were toxic by the oral or dermal routes of administration. The viscous nature of these emulsions limited to aerosol concentrations which could be tested. At the maximum attainable concentrations, no deaths or toxic effects were noted in the exposed animals. All of the materials were mildly irritating to the eyes but not on the skin. One of the materials testbed had a slight potential to sensitize treated animals. Keywords: Hydraulic fluid; Toxicity.

Book Comparative Studies of the Short Term Toxicity of the Hydraulic Fluids MIL H 19457C MIL H 19457B and MIL H 22072B

Download or read book Comparative Studies of the Short Term Toxicity of the Hydraulic Fluids MIL H 19457C MIL H 19457B and MIL H 22072B written by C. L. Gaworski and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acute toxicity studies including eye and skin irritation, skin sensitization, single dose oral, single dose intraperitoneal, 4-hour aerosol inhalation, single dose dermal, and 21-day repeated aerosol inhalation were conducted with the hydraulic fluids MIL-H-19457C, MIl-H-19457B and MIl-H-22072B. The first two hydraulic fluids are triarylphosphate ester-based materials, while the third is glycol based. MIL-H-19457C and MIl-H-19457B were also tested for neurotoxic potential with a repeated dose screening assay in chickens. None of the three hydraulic fluids produced eye or skin irritation in rabbits. Guinea pig sensitization tests were also negative for all three fluids. Single oral doses of 5 mL/kg of any of the materials failed to produce mortality in male or female Sprague-Dawley rats. Diarrhea and weight loss were seen in the rats given either MIL-H-19457C or MIl-H-19457B. These effects were not seen in the rats dosed with MIL-H-22072B. Single dose intraperitoneal LD50 values were also determined.

Book Petroleum Engineer s Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids

Download or read book Petroleum Engineer s Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids written by Johannes Fink and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05-13 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum Engineer's Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids is a comprehensive manual that provides end users with information about oil field chemicals, such as drilling muds, corrosion and scale inhibitors, gelling agents and bacterial control. This book is an extension and update of Oil Field Chemicals published in 2003, and it presents a compilation of materials from literature and patents, arranged according to applications and the way a typical job is practiced. The text is composed of 23 chapters that cover oil field chemicals arranged according to their use. Each chapter follows a uniform template, starting with a brief overview of the chemical followed by reviews, monomers, polymerization, and fabrication. The different aspects of application, including safety and environmental impacts, for each chemical are also discussed throughout the chapters. The text also includes handy indices for trade names, acronyms and chemicals. Petroleum, production, drilling, completion, and operations engineers and managers will find this book invaluable for project management and production. Non-experts and students in petroleum engineering will also find this reference useful. Chemicals are ordered by use including drilling muds, corrosion inhibitors, and bacteria control Includes cutting edge chemicals and polymers such as water soluble polymers and viscosity control Handy index of chemical substances as well as a general chemical index
