Book Trans European Networks

Download or read book Trans European Networks written by D. Johnson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trans-European networks (TENs) are a key theme in the process of integration for the EU as it enters the next millennium. The attainment of these networks stretches across many different areas of European policy and economy. The development of TENs is about establishing a series of infrastructure networks that complement the broad changes in the European economy facilitated by the development of the Single European Market. The book examines the development of TENs in the three key sectors: transport, energy and telecommunications, noting key themes and issues that need to be faced in their attainment. Attention is also paid to common problems in their realisation most notably the financing problems. The EU's strategy to develop these networks is essentially market-led yet, as the financing issues indicate, a consensus between the states in allowing commercial investment in infrastructure is proving elusive.

Book A European Public Investment Outlook

Download or read book A European Public Investment Outlook written by Floriana Cerniglia and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This outlook provides a focused assessment of the state of public capital in the major European countries and identifies areas where public investment could contribute more to stable and sustainable growth. A European Public Investment Outlook brings together contributions from a range of international authors from diverse intellectual and professional backgrounds, providing a valuable resource for the policy-making community in Europe to feed their discussion on public investment. The volume both offers sector-specific advice and highlights larger areas which should be prioritized in the policy debate (from transport to social capital, R&D and the environment). The Outlook is structured into two parts: the chapters of Part I respectively explore public investment trends in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Europe as a whole, and illuminate how the legacy of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis is one of insufficient public investment. Part II investigates some areas into which resources could be channelled to reverse the recent trend and provide European economies with an adequate public capital stock. The essays in this outlook collectively foster a broad approach to and definition of public investment, that is today more relevant than ever. Offering up a timely and clear case for the elimination of bias against investment in European fiscal rules, this outlook is a welcome contribution to the European debate, aimed both at policy makers and general readers.

Book The Trans European Networks programme as encouragement of Public Private Partnerships in Europe and vice versa

Download or read book The Trans European Networks programme as encouragement of Public Private Partnerships in Europe and vice versa written by Michael Dannehl and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-02-14 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: 1,5, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: The thesis at hand deals with the European programme Trans-European Networks (TEN) as support for infrastructure of a common interest for Europe in connection with Public Private Partnerships (PPPs or P3s). It will be shown that the former encourages the latter and the other way around and that this encouragement is inherent. This is also underlined by the area of applications for PPPs and TEN. Collaborations of public and private sector are not seen as a panacea, but it will be shown that there is much more to gain then to loose from this unconventional way of implementing infrastructure projects, which become more and more important. This is especially underlined through the need of investment in Europe’s infrastructure and tight budgets of the European Union and their member states at the same time. Furthermore, the gain of additional expertise, faster realisation and cost savings through synergetic effects are normally by-products of a rather commercial orientation. However, it is also stressed that such a participation of the private sector shall be accompanied by sharing unprofitable parts of projects, even if different types of Public Private Partnerships are used within such a project. Casting a light on the Trans-European Networks programme as a pillar of European regional policy, this view is supported. Around the world, P3s are used widely in different forms. Three examples will be presented according to the three sectors of TEN. As it is the norm, these different models leave space for inventive solutions to tackle individuality of projects. Rigid PPP structures on European level therefore are not recommended in this work. However, to deal with a variety of problems and to make use of a range of advantages at the same time, a compulsory use of Public Private Partnerships when implementing Trans-European Networks projects is advised.

Book Euroscepticism as a Transnational and Pan European Phenomenon

Download or read book Euroscepticism as a Transnational and Pan European Phenomenon written by John FitzGibbon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the EU enters an increasingly uncertain phase after the 2016 Brexit referendum, Euroscepticism continues to become an increasingly embedded phenomenon within party systems, non-party groups and within the media. Yet, academic literature has paid little attention to the emergence of, and increased development of, transnational and pan-European networks of EU opposition. As the ‘gap’ between Europe’s mainstream political elites and an increasingly sceptical public has widened, pan-European spheres of opposition towards the EU have developed and evolved. The volume sets out to explain how such an innately contradictory phenomenon as transnational Euroscepticism has emerged. It draws on a variety of perspectives and case studies in a number of spheres – the European Parliament, political parties, the media, civil society and public opinion. Examining to what extent the pan-European dimension of Euroscepticism is becoming increasingly influential, it argues that opposition to European integration has for too long been viewed somewhat narrowly, through the paradigm of national party politics. This text will be of key interest to scholars, students and professionals in EU politics, European studies, political parties, and more broadly to comparative politics and international relations.
