Those having come of age in the 60's will have many a remembrance; those who were socially active in the 60's will have never-to-be-forgotten memories.

This systematic process of mis-education undermined Black people’s struggles for freedom and justice, and it was an experience that scholars before and after Woodson recognized and worked to challenge. The son of former slaves, in 1912 Woodson earned his Ph.D. in history at Harvard University, the second African-American to earn a doctorate - the first being W. E. B.
