Download or read book Towards Synergism written by Anthony E. Mansueto and published by University Press of Amer. This book was released on 1995 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Towards Synergism makes a powerful case for understanding the universe as a relational and self-organizing system. The author shows that human civilization serves as the center for the dynamic complexity of the system of our universe. The author encourages us to appreciate this vitally significant role of human civilization by arguing that human creativity, not exchange, is the motivational force for social progress. This book explores the current crisis of the human civilization project and the simultaneous crisis of market and socialist systems. The author draws explicitly on developments in the new science, focusing on unified field theory, complex systems theory, post-Darwinian evolutionary biology, and anthropic cosmology. Mansueto also provides broad comparative historical and comparative sociological evidence. This timely, detailed, and insightful study will prove useful to natural and social scientists from many disciplines, as well as philosophers and theologians, religious, political, and even corporate leaders who are firmly grounded in the philosophical tradition.

Book Monergism or Synergism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Kirkpatrick
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers

Download or read book Monergism or Synergism written by Daniel Kirkpatrick and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tensions between Calvinism and Arminianism have perpetuated Christian thought for some 500 years. The concerns from both parties are legitimate. Calvinists are often accused of fatalism along with holding to a troubling view of double-predestination. Arminians are often accused of holding to a human-centered view of salvation that robs God of glory while championing human ability. Could it be that many of the tensions between Calvinists and Arminians are sourced in an often-overlooked issue—monergism and synergism? Could the same be said regarding Protestantism and Roman Catholicism concerning justification? In this volume, Daniel Kirkpatrick explores the specific roles of God and humans in various aspects of salvation to determine whether salvation is a work between God and a person (synergism) or a work of God alone (monergism). Building upon the framework of Aquinas, the Reformers, and Arminians, this book examines the issue of who does the work of salvation in light of cause and effect with hopes of providing new insights on historic doctrines.

Book Guided Self Organization Inception

Download or read book Guided Self Organization Inception written by Mikhail Prokopenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible to guide the process of self-organisation towards specific patterns and outcomes? Wouldn’t this be self-contradictory? After all, a self-organising process assumes a transition into a more organised form, or towards a more structured functionality, in the absence of centralised control. Then how can we place the guiding elements so that they do not override rich choices potentially discoverable by an uncontrolled process? This book presents different approaches to resolving this paradox. In doing so, the presented studies address a broad range of phenomena, ranging from autopoietic systems to morphological computation, and from small-world networks to information cascades in swarms. A large variety of methods is employed, from spontaneous symmetry breaking to information dynamics to evolutionary algorithms, creating a rich spectrum reflecting this emerging field. Demonstrating several foundational theories and frameworks, as well as innovative practical implementations, Guided Self-Organisation: Inception, will be an invaluable tool for advanced students and researchers in a multiplicity of fields across computer science, physics and biology, including information theory, robotics, dynamical systems, graph theory, artificial life, multi-agent systems, theory of computation and machine learning.

Book Mechanisms of Drug Interactions

Download or read book Mechanisms of Drug Interactions written by Patrick F. D'Arcy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years a number of excellent books have classified and detailed drug drug interactions into their respective categories, e.g. interactions at plasma protein binding sites; those altering intestinal absorption or bioavailability; those involving hepatic metabolising enzymes; those involving competition or antagonism for receptor sites, and drug interactions modifying excretory mechanisms. Such books have presented extensive tables of interactions and their management. Although of considerable value to clinicians, such publica tions have not, however, been so expressive about the individual mechanisms that underlie these interactions. It is within this sphere of "mechanisms" that this present volume specialises. It deals with mechanisms of in vitro and in vivo, drug-drug, drug food and drug-herbals interactions and those that cause drugs to interfere with diagnostic laboratory tests. We believe that an explanation of the mechanisms of such interactions will enable practitioners to understand more fully the nature of the interactions and thus enable them to manage better their clinical outcome. If mechanisms of interactions are better understood, then it may be pos sible for the researcher to develop meaningful animal/biochemical/tissue cul ture or physicochemical models to which new molecules could be exposed during their development stages. The present position, which largely relies on patients experiencing adverse interactions before they can be established or documented, can hardly be regarded as satisfactory. This present volume is classified into two major parts; firstly, pharmacoki netic drug interactions and, secondly, pharmacodynamic drug interactions.

Book Synergistic Selection How Cooperation Has Shaped Evolution And The Rise Of Humankind

Download or read book Synergistic Selection How Cooperation Has Shaped Evolution And The Rise Of Humankind written by Peter A Corning and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Nothing about the evolution of biological complexity makes sense except in the light of synergy.' Peter Corning's new book is being hailed as a major contribution to what is perhaps the greatest shift in our understanding of evolution since The Origin of Species. It's a tour de force that takes us on a synergy-guided tour of the history of life. As Corning puts it, 'life on Earth has been a synergistic phenomenon from the get go.' Corning also shows how synergy has been a key to human evolution, including the rise of complex modern societies. 'Cooperation may have been the vehicle, but synergy was the driver.' As we now face a tipping point and another major transition in evolution, Corning offers us a synergy-based road-map to the future. 'One of the great take-home lessons from the epic of evolution is that cooperation produces synergy, and synergy is the way forward. The arc of evolution bends toward synergy.'Related Link(s)

Book From an Antagonistic to a Synergistic Predator Prey Perspective

Download or read book From an Antagonistic to a Synergistic Predator Prey Perspective written by Tore Johannessen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an Antagonistic to a Synergistic Predator Prey Perspective: Bifurcations in Marine Ecosystems is a groundbreaking reference that challenges the widespread perception that predators generally have a negative impact on the abundance of their prey, and it proposes a novel paradigm — Predator-prey Synergism — in which both predator and prey enhance abundance by their co-existence. Using this model, the text explains a number of issues that appear paradoxical in the case of a negative predator-prey relationship, including observed ecosystem bifurcations (regime shifts), ecosystem resilience, red tides in apparently nutrient depleted water, and the dominance of grazed phytoplankton over non-grazed species under high grazing pressure. This novel paradigm can also be used to predict the potential impact of global warming on marine ecosystems, identify how marine ecosystem may respond to gradual environmental changes, and develop possible measures to mitigate the negative impact of increasing temperature in marine ecosystems. This book approaches the long-standing question of what generates recruitment variability in marine fishes and invertebrates in an engaging and unique way that students and researchers in marine ecosystems will understand. - Introduces a new paradigm, Predator-prey Synergism, as a building block on which to construct new ecological theories. It suggests that Predator-prey Synergism is important in some terrestrial ecosystems and is in agreement with the punctuated equilibria theory of evolution (i.e., stepwise evolution). - Suggests a general solution to the recruitment puzzle in marine organisms - Proposes a holistic hypothesis for marine spring blooming ecosystems by considering variability enhancing and variability dampening processes - Asserts that fisheries will induce variability in marine ecosystems and alter the energy flow patterns in predictable ways

Book The Scientific Roots of Synergy

Download or read book The Scientific Roots of Synergy written by Klaus Jaffe and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-05 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synergy arises from positive reciprocal and synchronized feedback loops in a network of diverse actors that exchange information, energy and matter. Its effect is to increase in a non-linear way (greater than the sum of the parts) useful work (free energy) and order (decrease entropy) of the systemAfter an extensive exploration of synergy and from the analysis of examples in many areas of science, including physics, biology and economy, I postulate that the common elements in all those examples are essential for the existence of synergy. These fundamental elements or roots of synergy are:1. Open stable systems2. Cohesion3. Diversity and Assortation4. Complementarity5. Communication and Synchrony6. Freedom and Self-Organization7. Dynamics with decreasing entropy and growing free energy. This point may be considered essential in defining synergy, as it can be measured and thus, the proposal is falsifiable and might be refuted empirically.
