Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Towards Reorganisation of International Finance The European War has brought into prominence the vexed question of foreign exchanges, and it has been found necessary to take special measures in order to cope with the fluctuating rates and adverse balances. The methods by which the British Government was able to overcome the most pressing financial difficulties consequent upon the War are, in themselves, an indication that some improvement of a permanent character is desirable in the present system of International Finance. In the following pages the different phases of the problem of exchange are investigated and means suggested by which the existing financial machinery may be utilised effectively towards the reorganisation of International Finance. Book excerpt: Excerpt from International Finance and Its Reorganization The World War may be conceived as a vast experiment in international finance, conducted at the cost of over 12 million lives and over 200 billion dollars. Its lessons should be an Open book for the generations to come. England, France and Germany utilized three different methods in financing the war. The con sequences in each of these countries are a foil to the conflicting theories Of war finance, advanced during the struggle. The results test the hypotheses. A knowledge of the history and diagnosis of the financial ills of Europe are essential to the determination of the prognosis and the therapy. The present chaos in Europe can be understood only in the light of its causes, and the possible way out is to be found only by studying the effects of war-time finance. Book Towards a Reorganisation System for Sovereign Debt

Download or read book Towards a Reorganisation System for Sovereign Debt written by Holger Schier and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The insolvency of sovereign debtors is a virtually timeless phenomenon and yet the existing international financial architecture does not provide any legal framework to deal with this issue. Following an overview of the main proposals as to how to bridge this gap, this study analyses the extent to which public international law can be used as a source for the establishment of a reorganisation system for sovereign debt. While there is no adequate customary international law relating to sovereign insolvencies, reference can instead be made to the growing body of general principles of law. This is illustrated by a comparison of the systems of corporate financial reorganisation in insolvency in six representatively selected countries - Argentina, England, France, Germany, Indonesia and the U.S. Due to the inherent lack of enforceability with regard to sovereign debtors, in order to be able to provide a basis for a reorganisation system for sovereign debt, these principles need to be complemented with a compliance control mechanism. This study suggests how such a system could be constructed and implemented.

Book European Banks and the Rise of International Finance

Download or read book European Banks and the Rise of International Finance written by Carlo Edoardo Altamura and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-08-12 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The banking and financial sector has expanded dramatically in the last forty years, and the consequences of this accelerated growth have been felt by people around the world. European Banks and the Rise of International Finance examines the historical origins of the financialised world we live in by analysing the transformations in world finance which occurred in the decade from the first oil crisis of 1973, until the debt crisis of 1982. This a crucial and formative decade for understanding the modern financial landscape, but it is still mostly unexplored in economic and financial history. The availability of new archival evidence has allowed for the re-examination of issues such as the progressive privatisation of international financial flows to Less Developed Countries, especially in Latin America and South-East Asia, and its impact on the expansion of the European banking sector, and for the development of an invaluable financial and political history. This book is well suited for those interested in monetary economics and economic history, as well as those studying international political economy, banking history and Financial history.

Book Corporate Reorganisations in China

Download or read book Corporate Reorganisations in China written by Zinian Zhang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive empirical study on corporate bankruptcy reorganizations in the second largest economy, China, investigating the formal corporate restructurings handled by China's courts between 2007 and 2015. The data and analysis presented in the book provide a unique lens from which China's newly-enacted Chapter 11-styled corporate reorganization law, both in the books and in practice, can be understood and from which the interaction between business and state in dealing with corporate bankruptcies in China could be better comprehended. This book benefits from the author's ten-year business law practice in China, and his insights on China's judicial and political system considerably enrich the arguments. In particular, this book sheds light on commencement of bankruptcy reorganizations, control models, corporate reorganization financing, value distribution, approval of reorganization plans and cross-border reorganizations under the China Enterprise Bankruptcy Law of 2006.
