Book Fiscal Sovereignty of the Member States in an Internal Market

This book was released on 2010-12-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The European Union s Corporate Income Tax Policy

Download or read book The European Union s Corporate Income Tax Policy written by Pernille Stordrange and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: A, BI Norwegian Business School (Public governance), course: EU Policy Process, language: English, abstract: In this paper I chronologically go through the policy process towards a harmonised corporate income tax in the EU member states. By using Jenkins-Smith and Sabatier's advocacy coalition framework (ACF) I evaluate how events internal and external to the EU, as well as policy-oriented learning have brought the process forward and caused policy change. I also explain how the lack of favourable conditions has caused stalemate and lack of progress. I find that changing socio-economic conditions have facilitated and hampered the policy process and that macroeconomic conditions have affected member states willingness to implement coordinating measures. Other determinants of change are internal developments in the EU such as enlargements, ECJ jurisprudence or change in political leadership. Over the time period under study, the European Commission, as the agenda-setter in the EU has learned from previous failures and new scientific information and altered its strategy along the way. Member states have also over time changed their view on the EU in general and corporate income tax harmonisation in particular. The outcome of the EC's efforts over the years has been varying, and the policy process has proceeded in fits and starts. So far, the EC has achieved some degree of coordination, but not harmonisation of corporate income tax systems. What the future brings depends on the variables discussed throughout the paper.

Book Co Ordination of Corporate Exit Taxation in the Internal Market and Beyond

Download or read book Co Ordination of Corporate Exit Taxation in the Internal Market and Beyond written by Erik Röder and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corporate exit taxation is an important obstacle to the deepening of economic integration within the internal market and beyond, as it distorts cross-border business activities of multinational enterprises and hinders cross-border business reorganisations. This article argues that the problems related to corporate exit taxation can only be addressed in a satisfactory way through co-ordination. It describes how a co-ordinated corporate exit taxation regime should be designed and how it could be implemented within the EU, in the context of a common corporate tax base or through a targeted harmonisation measure, as well as outside the EU in Double Taxation Conventions.

Book The EU VAT System and the Internal Market

Download or read book The EU VAT System and the Internal Market written by Rita de La Feria and published by IBFD. This book was released on 2009 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses upon VAT in the context of the Community's internal market. Its central aim is to prove that the current EU VAT system is incompatible with the concept of internal market as set out in the EC Treaty and interpreted by the Court of Justice. The study commences with an analysis of the concept of internal market, the main objective of which is to establish the basic legal framework for the proposed thesis. As part of this examination, it is demonstrated that the EC Treaty creates a temporally unlimited obligation for the Community to approve legislation with the aim of establishing and improving the functioning of the internal market. By analysis of existing EU VAT jurisprudence, it is argued that obstacles cannot be overcome through incremental developments emerging from the Court of Justice, but can only be resolved by fundamental and substantive legislative amendment.
