Book Towards a New Human Being

Download or read book Towards a New Human Being written by Luce Irigaray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With my own introduction and epilogue, Towards a New Human Being gathers original essays by early career researchers and established academic figures in response to To Be Born, my most recent book. The contributors approach key issues of this book from their own scientific fields and perspectives – through calls for a different way of bringing up and educating children, the constitution of a new environmental and sociocultural milieu or the criticism of past metaphysics and the introduction of new themes into the philosophical horizon. However, all the essays which compose the volume correspond to proposals for the advent of a new human being – so answering the subtitle of To Be Born: Genesis of a New Human Being. To Be Born thus acts as a background from which each author had the opportunity to develop and think in their own way. As such Towards a New Human Being is part of a longer-term undertaking in which I engaged together and in dialogue with more or less confirmed thinkers with a view to giving birth to a new human being and building a new world. –Luce Irigaray

Book Thinking Towards Humanity

Download or read book Thinking Towards Humanity written by Stephen de Wijze and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should we respond to the inhumanity that suffused the 20th Century and continues in the present one? Has there been an adequate treatment of this issue by the political left? Questions such as these are treated in this, the first scholarly book to combine academic and blogging approaches to some of the major political issues of the day. It does this by focusing on the work of Norman Geras – Marxist, political philosopher and blogger – and developing the central themes of his work such as crimes against humanity, the Holocaust, Marxism, and the means/ends problem in politics. It contains contributions by famous political philosophers such as Michael Walzer, Hillel Steiner and David McLennan, and bloggers and journalists such as David Aaronovitch, Nick Cohen and Ophelia Benson. The book contains a unique response by Geras in which he draws together the various themes it covers. It will be of interest to all who are concerned with these pressing political issues of our times. The book will be particularly relevant for those with an academic or general interest in politics, philosophy, sociology, genocide studies, applied ethics, international relations, and law. It will also be of interest to bloggers and all those who regard the new technology as having significant implications for public debate on these issues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are going through a difficult time presently as we reach the bottom of the involution curve of human history. According to the great cycles of humanity’s development, this descent was intended in order to better know ourselves through matter. These cycles are part of a planetary evolution design under guidance from time immemorial leading us to presently live one of these major cycles of our history. Indeed, we are initiating the evolution phase, the one of rediscovering our essential divine nature. In this work, we invite you to discover your inner temple, to consider alternative medicines, to balance the two eternal principles within each of you, to use the great four sciences of the Initiates, to discover how women hold the keys for a new humanity and, finally, to live your own inner divinity on a daily basis. Already we perceive the dawn of a new day whereby the sun is rising in the consciousness and the warmth of the heart is calling for a deeper connection.

We have crossed an evolutionary threshold. HUMANITY 2.0 heralds the new paradigm and offers a unique perspective on the planetary civilization that is our destiny and how we are creating that new society individually. No matter how things seem, no matter how much the world¿s noise is like a rumble letting loose across the airwaves, no matter how much the cries and desperation of millions are like a throttling of all hope, humanity, we are in a new life, struggling to find a new sense of Purpose. This is a new awareness piercing the density of the compelling dissonance. This is a new life threading through the very breath of all the confounding voices. This unexpected expansion of humanity is very much the infusion of a stronger heart-consciousness. The conflicts in the various nations are an awakening cry, the anguish of prying free from old selfish dispositions, the surrender of ideas that have battered humanity from the beginning. In this hour, humanity, we are shattering the old feelings of disconnection. We are holding ourselves up to a standard of compassion and involvement. This century and the next, we will be seeing tremendous strides in our capacity to be more. Although we live in a time of uncertainty, we are in a time of renewal. ¿WOW!¿ ~ The Futurist, World Future Society. ¿Uplifting. Book Rediscovery of Cultural Landscapes in Southern China

Download or read book Rediscovery of Cultural Landscapes in Southern China written by Wallace P.H. Chang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the concept of human landscape in rural settlements in Southern China, where communities and their cultural landscapes are facing contemporary challenges following a period of rapid urbanization in the last 50 years. While metropolitan cities, such as Hong Kong, are experiencing accelerated urban development, underpopulated rural villages are struggling to maintain the cultural heritage of their regions. Rediscovery of Cultural Landscapes in Southern China provides a detailed account into indigenous living cultures in traditional, rural settlements upon natural landscapes. Beginning with an overview of the theoretical framework, the book presents six unique cases, including: Tai O, Yim Tin Tsai, Lai Chi Wo, Nga Tsin Wai, Cangdong, and Meinong, while illustrating a relevant comparison between Hakka and Satoyama landscape systems. The spectrum of theoretical and case analyses allows for a rethinking of the evolving cultural landscape’s positioning with valuable heritages in the context of a post-industrial society. The book is written towards reinterpreting the cultural landscape by conceptualizing the human landscape for scholars, practitioners, and students interested in rural-cultural conservation and revitalization, heritage management, traditional architecture and landscape planning, and urban-rural development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of engaging in various forms of anti-racism organizing, I discovered that the methods that were being used lent to further dehumanization of many parties involved, including myself. I was no longer comfortable participating in organizing that reinforced the hierarchal narrative of privilege, as I felt it to be false. I also felt that it did not allow well-meaning white anti-racist organizers to focus on their own humanity in the process. I developed this curriculum with the hopes that we could embark on a new, more humane discussion. One that is premature, yet bursting with potential. Through the combination of essays, suggested readings, film viewings and discussions, learners should have a thorough understanding of the system of white supremacy, racism, anti-racism organizing and how to shift the privilege narrative.

Book To Be Born

    Book Details:
  • Author : Luce Irigaray
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2017-02-17
  • ISBN : 3319392220
  • Pages : 110 pages

Download or read book To Be Born written by Luce Irigaray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “According to the words of Phaedrus in the Symposium of Plato, Love, sometimes named Eros, has no parents, no age, no history, and its origin remains unknown to anyone. Love, whose destiny is said to be unique amongst the gods and humans, perhaps embodies desire for a conjunction always in search of its happening. Love would represent a dynamism longing for the copula incarnating the transcendence of our being. As such, Love would remain the everlasting yearning for the accomplishment of the ecstatic destiny of humanity.” In this book, Luce Irigaray - philosopher, linguist, psychologist and psychoanalyst - proposes nothing less than a new way of conceiving what a human being is as well as a means to ensure our individual and relational development from birth. Unveiling the mystery of our origin is probably what most motivates our quests and plans. And yet such a disclosure proves to be impossible. Indeed we were born as one from a union between two, and we are forever deprived of an origin of our own. Hence our ceaseless search for roots: in our genealogy, in the place where we were born, in our culture, religion or language. But a human being cannot develop from its own roots as a tree does. As humans, we must take responsibility for our own being and existence without any given continuity with our origin and background. How can we achieve that? First by cultivating our breathing, which is more than a means to come into the world and to exist; breathing also allows us to transcend mere survival to secure for ourselves a spiritual becoming. Taking on our sexuate belonging is the second element which enables us to assume our natural existence. Indeed, this determination at once brings us energy and provides us with a structure which contributes to our individuation and our relations with other living beings and the world. Our sexuation can compensate for our absence of roots too by compelling us to unite with the other sex so that we freely approach the copulative conjunction from which we were born; that is, the mystery of our origin. This does not occur through a mere sexual instinct or drive, but requires us to cultivate desire and love with respect for our mutual difference(s). In this way we can give rise to a new human being, not only at a natural but also at an ontological level.

Book excerpt: A unique and incisive exploration of the place and nature of friendship in both its personal and civic dimensions In Towards Friendship-Shaped Communities: A Practical Theology of Friendship, distinguished theological researcher Anne-Marie Ellithorpe delivers a constructive and insightful exploration of the place and nature of friendship as innate to being human, to the human vocation, and to life within the broader community. Of particular interest to members and leaders of faith communities, this book responds to contemporary concerns regarding relationality and offers a comprehensive theology of friendship. The author provides an inclusive and interdisciplinary study that brings previous traditions and texts into dialogue with contemporary contexts and concerns, including examples from Indigenous and Euro-Western cultures.
