Book Toward the Excited Meson Spectrum of Dynamical QCD

Download or read book Toward the Excited Meson Spectrum of Dynamical QCD written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a detailed description of the extraction of the highly excited isovector meson spectrum on dynamical anisotropic lattices using a new quark-field construction algorithm and a large variational basis of operators. With careful operator construction, the combination of these techniques is used to identify the continuum spin of extracted states reliably, overcoming the reduced rotational symmetry of the cubic lattice. Excited states, states with exotic quantum numbers (0+-, 1-+ and 2+- ) and states of high spin are resolved, including, for the first time in a lattice QCD calculation, spin-four states. The determinations of the spectrum of isovector mesons and kaons are performed on dynamical lattices with two volumes and with pion masses down to ~ 400 MeV, with statistical precision typically at or below 1% even for highly excited states.

Book excerpt: Using a new quark-field construction algorithm and a large variational basis of operators, we extract a highly excited isovector meson spectrum on dynamical anisotropic lattices. We show how carefully constructed operators can be used to identify the continuum spin of extracted states. This method allows us to extract, with confidence, excited states, states of high spin and states with exotic quantum numbers, including, for the first time, spin-four states.

Book Excited Light Meson Spectroscopy from Lattice QCD

Download or read book Excited Light Meson Spectroscopy from Lattice QCD written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I report on recent progress in calculating excited meson spectra using lattice QCD, emphasizing results and phenomenology. With novel techniques we can now extract extensive spectra of excited mesons with high statistical precision, including spin-four states and those with exotic quantum numbers. As well as isovector meson spectra, I will present new calculations of the spectrum of excited light isoscalar mesons, something that has up to now been a challenge for lattice QCD. I show determinations of the flavor content of these mesons, including the eta-eta' mixing angle, providing a window on annihilation dynamics in QCD. I will also discuss recent work on using lattice QCD to map out the energy-dependent phase shift in pi-pi scattering and future applications of the methodology to the study of resonances and decays.

Book First principles Calculation of Excited State Spectra in QCD

Download or read book First principles Calculation of Excited State Spectra in QCD written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent progress at understanding the excited state spectra of mesons and baryons is described. I begin by outlining the application of the variational method to compute the spectrum of QCD, and then present results for the excited meson spectrum, with continuum quantum numbers of the states clearly delineated. I emphasise the need to extend the calculation to encompass multi-hadron contributions, and describe a recent calculation of the I=2 pion-pion energy-dependent phase shifts as a precursor to the study of channels with resonant behavior. I conclude with recent results for the low lying baryon spectrum, and the prospects for future calculations.

This book was released on 1993-03-18 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures presented at the Workshop on QCD Vacuum Structure and Its Applications, held in Paris, France, in June 1992. The structure of the vacuum state of quantum chromodynamics is one of the major unsolved problems in strong interaction physics. Although considerable progress has been made in the last decade in understanding various aspects of QCD vacuum structure, a unified picture is still elusive. This volume covers recent advances in the major fields of relevance to the problem of the QCD vacuum, such as quark confinement, chiral symmetry breaking, nonperturbative approaches, and QCD vacuum phenomenology. It provides the first comprehensive presentation of this subject, and will be valuable tool for theorists interested in nonperturbative QCD, hadronic structure, and relativistic nuclear physics.

Book Towards the Determination of the Spectrum of QCD Using a Space time Lattice

Download or read book Towards the Determination of the Spectrum of QCD Using a Space time Lattice written by Robert Edwards and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress by the Lattice Hadron Physics Collaboration in determining the baryon and meson resonance spectrum of QCD using Monte Carlo methods with space- time lattices is described. The extraction of excited-state energies necessitates the evaluation of correlation matrices of sets of operators, and the importance of extended three-quark operators to capture both the radial and orbital structures of baryons is emphasized. The use of both quark-field smearing and link-field smearing in the operators is essential for reducing the couplings of the operators to the high-frequency modes and for reducing statistical noise in the correlators. The extraction of nine energy levels in a given symmetry channel is demonstrated, and identifying the continuum spin quantum numbers of the levels is discussed.

Book Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD

Download or read book Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD written by Anthony M. Green and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle and nuclear physicists frequently take results from Lattice QCD at their face value without probing into their reliability or sophistication. This attitude usually stems from a lack of knowledge of the field. The aim of the present volume is to rectify this by introducing in an elementary way several topics, which we believe are appropriate for, and of possible interest to, both particle and nuclear physicists who are non-experts in the field.
