Book Organic Homiletic

Download or read book Organic Homiletic written by Richard Hee-Chun Park and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic form theory of Romanticism helps writers, artists, and preachers free themselves from potentially limiting norms and rules of form. Organic Homiletic: Samuel T. Coleridge, Henry G. Davis, and the New Homiletic will inspire preachers to express their individual voices and create their own authentic forms by offering preachers innovative methods to creatively imitate, blend, and mix a wide variety of sermon forms. The book is a motivator for preachers to intuitively discover sermon content in the rhetorical context of a given preaching situation, and to develop that content utilizing organic form in the process of sermon preparation. Organic Homiletic is a must-read for seminarians, experienced preachers, creative writers, and artists - all those who seek to be fresh, authentic, creative, liberated, and organic.

Book Toward a Homiletical Theology of Promise

Download or read book Toward a Homiletical Theology of Promise written by David Schnasa Jacobsen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promise has a long pedigree in the history of Christian understandings of the gospel. This volume gathers together leading homileticians to consider the breadth of its understanding today in light of the struggle to reconcile God's grace with God's justice. Assuming that promise is a core sense of the gospel, how does this relate to the variety of contexts in which homiletical theology is done? In this final volume in the series, six homileticians from a variety of contexts and perspectives try to move specifically toward a homiletical theology of promise as a way to articulate the central theological gift and task that is preaching the gospel today.

Lowry, The Homiletical Plot, Expanded Edition follows in the same solid tradition of its predecessor. Upon its release, The Homiletical Plot quickly became a pivotal work on the art of preaching. Book Ethical Approaches to Preaching

Download or read book Ethical Approaches to Preaching written by John S. McClure and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Different ethical situations require different homiletical responses. John McClure organizes recent literature on ethics and preaching into four ethical approaches. Does your situation require public moral leadership? Then a communicative ethic is best. Does your situation require the development of countercultural moral character? Then a witness ethic is best. Does your situation require ethical consciousness-raising and organizing for social justice? Then a liberationist ethic is best. Does your situation require genuine moral conversation and the discernment of shared commitments in spite of our differences? Then a hospitality ethic is best. Each ethical approach is briefly and carefully explored, correlated with appropriate contexts and situations, and demonstrated with model sermons. The result is a useful handbook for quickly discerning what ethical approach is needed, how to preach that approach, and what to expect as a result.

Book Teaching Preaching as a Christian Practice

Download or read book Teaching Preaching as a Christian Practice written by Thomas G. Long and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preachings most able practitioners gather in this book to explore and explain the idea that preaching is a practice that can be taught and learned. Arguing that preaching is a living practice with a long tradition, an identifiable shape, and a broad set of norms and desired outcomes, these noted scholars propose that teachers initiate students into the larger practice of preaching, in ways somewhat like other students are initiated into the practice of medicine or law. The book concludes with designs for a basic preaching course and addresses the question of how preaching courses fit into the larger patterns of seminary curricula.

Book Preaching Through Time

    Book Details:
  • Author : Casey C. Barton
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2017-07-28
  • ISBN : 149823464X
  • Pages : 253 pages

Download or read book Preaching Through Time written by Casey C. Barton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As preachers who come to the pulpit, before God and before God’s people, each and every week, how do we make sense of the text as we live a new moment of its ongoing story? Most options available to the preacher necessitate a hermeneutical step that requires us to preach outside of time in timeless truths, experiences, or realities. But the gospel is the drama of God appearing to and working with and loving God’s people in time. Preaching Through Time gives the preacher a timely homiletic for preaching together the times of God’s gospel, then and now, while calling God’s people to perform their own roles in today’s moment of that gospel drama. Anachronism, preaching together the moments of God’s drama, is the language event that will get us from text to timely sermon, week by week.

Book The Confessionalist Homiletics of Lucas Osiander 1534 1604

Download or read book The Confessionalist Homiletics of Lucas Osiander 1534 1604 written by Sivert Angel and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2014-11-26 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucas Osiander (1534-1604) was an influential preacher of the Lutheran orthodoxy. As a Wuerttemberg court preacher and superintendent, he played a central role when the country was established as one of the leading Lutheran forces in the Empire. Osiander preached to a wide audience in a time when sermons were a privileged form of communication and when preachers could address and negotiate the central interests in society. Using confessionalization theory, Sivert Angel studies Osiander's preaching in its political and theological context and shows how Osiander as a preacher could exert political influence. By analyzing Osiander's sermons in light of his own homiletic, the author describes how Osiander's role as a preacher may be traced in his sermons' rhetoric structures and in his use of theological concepts. The discussion of Osiander's theory and practice of preaching documents the ways that Osiander's sermons reinforced the existing political and social order and portrays central aspects of theology and piety in the later sixteenth century.

Book Preaching Like Paul

Download or read book Preaching Like Paul written by James W. Thompson and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contrast with the widely popular interest in narrative styles, Professor Thompson believes Paul's letters offer a different and valid model for preaching today. He clearly demonstrates how the manner of preaching used in the pre-Christian culture of Paul is both appropriate and effective in our contemporary post-Christian culture. Unlike most books on preaching, this book does not focus on homiletic technique, but on the goal of preaching - a needed missing component in contemporary homiletic discussion.
