Download or read book Raimon Panikkar written by Peter C. Phan and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raimon Panikkar: A Companion to his Life and Thought is a guide to the life, work and thought of Raimon Panikkar, a self-professed Buddhist-Christian-Hindu philosopher and theologian. A man of deep and wide learning and an extremely prolific author, Panikkar is equally at home in various religious and cultural traditions and embodies in himself the ideals of intercultural, intrareligious, and interreligious dialogues. This book explicates Panikkar’s basic vision of life as the harmonious rhythm of divinity, humanity, and the cosmos, which he terms "cosmotheandrism," and shows how it permeates and illumines his articulations of the central Christian doctrines. Given the complexity and difficulty of Panikkar’s thought this book is a welcome companion for a course on Panikkar and for a general reader who wishes to understand one of the most profound and orginal thinkers of our time.

Download or read book The Time Dimension written by T K. Das and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1990-04-17 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive bibliography of temporal scholarship-research on the subject of time and the phenomenon of time itself. As the author notes in his introduction, the nature of research insights on the subject of time is difficult to comprehend within the confines of any specific discipline since relevant materials are scattered throughout the literature in numerous scholarly fields. By bringing together the most significant published works in a wide variety of disciplines, this unique compendium enables scholars and researchers to look beyond their own particular area of expertise when selecting appropriate resource materials. Throughout, the focus is on the time dimension itself as a problematic or researchable phenomenon rather than on narrow topics such as time management, time series analysis, or forecasting. Organized by discipline, the work begins with an initial chapter that lists general works on the time dimension. Nineteen chapters then list works in particular disciplines ranging from anthropology and culture to biology, economics, futures studies, history, linguistics, management studies, psychology, and more. The final chapter lists miscellaneous entries which could not be categorized into any of the specific disciplinary headings. Within each chapter, entries are arranged alphabetically by author or editor. Nearly all sources are from scholarly journals and books.
Download or read book The Sense of Adharma written by Ariel Glucklich and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1994-04-28 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing one of the most difficult conceptual topics in the study of classical Hinduism, Ariel Glucklich presents a rigorous phenomenology of dharma, or order. The work moves away from the usual emphasis on symbols and theoretical formulations of dharma as a religious and moral norm. Instead, it focuses on images that emerge from the basic experiential interaction of the body in its spatial and temporal contexts, such as the sensation of water on the skin during the morning purification, or the physical manipulation of the bride during the marriage ritual. Images of dharma are examined in myths, rituals, art, and even the physical landscape of the Hindu world. The varied and contingent experiences of dharma infuse it with a meaning that transcends a false analytical distinction from adharma, or chaos. Glucklich shows that when dharma is experienced by means of living images, it becomes inescapably temporal, and therefore inseparable from adharma.

Download or read book Figurativity across Domains Modalities and Research Practices written by Alexandra Bagasheva and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-01-05 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human ability to think non-literally has attracted the interest of various scholars for thousands of years. Over the centuries, they have defined and studied an extensive variety of tropes, such as metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, allegory, and irony, in terms of their communicative effectiveness and stylistic aesthetics and basically interpreted these simply as figurative linguistic expressions and mere flourishes adding flavour to underlying non-figurative content. Today, figurativity is understood as constitutive of various processes of human comprehension of the world, human communicative interactions, and everyday human functioning. This volume constitutes a representative selection of studies that provide novel answers to the open questions of how non-literal thought and non-literal expression in various media and discourses (co-)exist. The book focuses on figurative cognitive operations enabling non-literal thought, language and other semiotic expressions. The unique set of viewpoints and authors’ contributions upholds the cognitive approach to figurativity; it positions figurativity in various discursive environments, compares and contrasts figurativity in various languages and cultures, and traces the multimodal interplay of figurativity.
Download or read book Plastic Tagore written by Ranjan Ghosh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-10-29 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book in Tagore studies offers a fresh analysis of Tagorean thought by working through the philosophy and poetics of plasticity. As a prominent figure in plastic theory,Ghoshexplores Tagore''s views on education, identity politics, environment, and literature through what he calls the 'plastic principle'. This deconstructs Tagore''s thinking on''sahitya'', ecosophy, historicity and philosophy of history, and aesthetic education and the notion of the political. Not a standard intellectual biography or historical study, this book radicalizes how we think and interpret Tagore to arrive at whatGhoshcalls Plastic Tagore. The book, thus, thinksafter yesterday.

Download or read book Aesthetics Politics Pedagogy and Tagore written by Ranjan Ghosh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a radical rethinking of the prominent Indian thinker Rabindranath Tagore, exploring how his philosophy of education relates to the ideas of Western theorists such as Kant, Plato and Aristotle. Tagore's thoughts on pedagogy, university and formal education are subjected to a fascinating critique within Ghosh's transcultural framework, referencing a wide range of thinkers across varying time periods, places, and cultures, and developing a greater sensitivity to other traditions, languages, and forms of thinking and writing. The book changes the way we have so far thought about the educationist Tagore, and will be of interest to scholars and specialists of literature, Indian history, and philosophy of education. It is political, deeply philosophical and has a transcultural take on our understanding of a variety of issues relating to Tagore and to philosophy of education in general.
