Book Toward a Theory on Gas Phase Ignition of a Drop

Download or read book Toward a Theory on Gas Phase Ignition of a Drop written by V. N. Bloshenko and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ignition process of a drop of liquid fuel in the gas phase has been the subject of a significant number of theoretical as well as experimental studies. In view of the complexity of these problems, the various authors have used different approximations to simplify the problem, and in practically all of the studies the ignition process was analyzed in an approximation where the processes of heat and mass transfer in the gas medium were inertialess and in an independent diffusion approximation. In the present study the ignition of a drop near critical conditions is studied with the inertia of the gas medium considered. The correctness of replacing the equations of multicomponent diffusion by the independent diffusion equations which are generally used is also analyzed.

Book Analysis of Thermal Ignition Lag in Fuel Droplet Combustion

Download or read book Analysis of Thermal Ignition Lag in Fuel Droplet Combustion written by C. K. Law and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory of the thermal ignition of a fuel droplet in a hot oxidizing atmosphere is formulated using an existing gas-phase ignition criterion and an analysis for the transient droplet heating process. Limits in the ignitability of a system, either spontaneous or delayed, are identified. A kinetically-controlled ignition regime and a droplet-heating-controlled ignition regime are shown to exist in cold and hot environments respectively, each exhibiting distinctively different ignition characteristics. The ambient pressure is found to have small influence on the ignition lag except for the marginally ignitable cases.

Book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media

Download or read book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media written by L. P. Yarin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-01-21 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media addresses the complex phenomena involved in the burning of solid and liquid fuels. In fact, the multiplicity of phenomena characteristic of combustion of two-phase media determine the contents. The three parts deal with: the dynamics of a single particle; combustion wave propagation in two-phase reactive media; and thermal regimes of combustion reactors. The book generalizes the results of numerous investigations into the ignition and combustion of solid particles, droplets and bubbles, combustion wave propagation in heterogeneous reactive media, the stability of combustion of two-phase media, as well as the thermal regimes of high-temperature combustion reactors. It merges findings from the authors’ investigations into problems of two-phase flows and material from graduate-level courses they teach at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Book Biomass Processing for Biofuels Bioenergy and Chemicals

Download or read book Biomass Processing for Biofuels Bioenergy and Chemicals written by Wei-Hsin Chen and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-05-23 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomass can be used to produce renewable electricity, thermal energy, transportation fuels (biofuels), and high-value functional chemicals. As an energy source, biomass can be used either directly via combustion to produce heat or indirectly after it is converted to one of many forms of bioenergy and biofuel via thermochemical or biochemical pathways. The conversion of biomass can be achieved using various advanced methods, which are broadly classified into thermochemical conversion, biochemical conversion, electrochemical conversion, and so on. Advanced development technologies and processes are able to convert biomass into alternative energy sources in solid (e.g., charcoal, biochar, and RDF), liquid (biodiesel, algae biofuel, bioethanol, and pyrolysis and liquefaction bio-oils), and gaseous (e.g., biogas, syngas, and biohydrogen) forms. Because of the merits of biomass energy for environmental sustainability, biofuel and bioenergy technologies play a crucial role in renewable energy development and the replacement of chemicals by highly functional biomass. This book provides a comprehensive overview and in-depth technical research addressing recent progress in biomass conversion processes. It also covers studies on advanced techniques and methods for bioenergy and biofuel production.
