Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With many of Australia's regional areas experiencing economic change and uncertainty, growth in tourism presents an opportunity for regions to diversify their economies. International tourists are an important source of income for regional Australia, contributing significantly to employment across a range of industry sectors. The significance of international tourism to regional Australia creates a need for detailed economic analyses so that specific regions can respond effectively to changes in international visitor patterns. In 1999 the BTR released the first set of consistent international visitor expenditure estimates, which were developed by applying a modelling approach to data from the 1997 International Visitor Survey. This publication contains an analysis of information gathered from the 1998 International Visitor Survey, providing expenditure estimates for States and Territories, tourism regions, visitor source nations, purpose of visit, and more. Detailed regional expenditure estimates for accommodation, food and beverages are also included in this edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domestic tourism is a major contributor to the Australian economy, with domestic day and overnight visitors spending substantial sums of money on accommodation, food and shopping during their travels. Regional Australia benefits considerably from domestic tourism activity, as domestic visitors are more likely to travel to regional Australia than international visitors. Due to the link between expenditure by visitors to a region and regional economic performance, there has been unmet demand for regional estimates of domestic tourism expenditure until now. BTR has used a modelling approach, in conjunction with data from the 1998 National Visitor Survey, to develop consistent estimates of expenditure by domestic day and overnight visitors within Australia's States, Territories and tourism regions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The built environment is responsible for an estimated forty-five per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions. As the greatest opportunities for reducing these emissions occur during the briefing and design processes, the pathway to better design lies in preparing environmental briefs, and using these to drive building design and produce buildings of high environmental performance. This process-driven book looks at the theoretical issues involved in an environmental brief, and outlines methods by which architects can approach the writing of a brief that considers all aspects of the natural and the built environment, and relates these concepts to a number of case studies from around the world.

Download or read book Linking agriculture and tourism to strengthen agrifood systems in Asia and the Pacific written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-08-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agrifood systems in Asia and the Pacific can be strengthened by tapping on agrifood-tourism linkages. When tourism and agrifood systems interact, both synergies and competition appear. Agriculture and tourism compete between themselves and other sectors for land, water, labour, capital, and transport and logistics services. Cross-sectoral synergies arise when agriculture and tourism influence each other through their respective demand conditions and changes in the enabling environment. These cross-sectoral synergies can be instrumental in strengthening agrifood systems in the region and addressing interlinked crises in the post-pandemic era.Governments across Asia and the Pacific have acknowledged the potential of tapping into agrifood- tourism linkages to advance sustainable development in both urban (food tourism) and rural areas (mostly agricultural tourism), and are implementing efforts to develop this subsector.Agrifood-tourism linkages can create income-generating opportunities for farmers and tourism operators, boost employment and stimulate overall economic growth, promote the development of sustainable agrifood systems, prevent rural youth outmigration and help preserve culinary and agricultural heritage. This publication guides policymakers in the region in the preparation of a strategic plan aimed at developing agrifood tourism and the tourism food value chain as drivers of sustainable development. The successful positioning of a country or location as a culinary or agricultural tourism destination and the creation of synergies between the agriculture and tourism sectors requires a shared vision and coordination between policymakers, destination managers, tourism and agrifood businesses, chefs, farmers and other key stakeholders.
