The neighborhood of Oleander Court is the poster child for suburban bliss. The residents compare lawns beautified by hired help. They monitor home values. They toss perfect furniture because they wanted tapioca, not beige. But when a string of murders rips through the neighborhood, suspicions abound as new secrets come to light. And as more and more bodies are taken away, it becomes clear that the killer is strategically selecting each and every victim, picking off the shallowest, most wasteful of the lot in spectacular fashion and leaving everyone in the neighborhood to wonder: Who’s next? While most of their neighbors scatter like well-dressed cockroaches, a small group of the neighborhood ladies team up to solve their local mystery and restore their once-peaceful lives. But is this ragtag collection of amateur sleuths truly a united front? With reputations, freedom, and personal sanity on the line, the ladies must unmask the killer . . . even if the killer is among them.

Book Tossed to the Wind

    Book Details:
  • Author : Maria T. Padilla
  • Publisher : University Press of Florida
  • Release : 2020-03-02
  • ISBN : 1683402170
  • Pages : 257 pages

Download or read book Tossed to the Wind written by Maria T. Padilla and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Framed by the stories of Hurricane Maria evacuees, Tossed to the Wind is the gripping account of the wreckage, despair, and displacement left in the wake of one of the deadliest natural disasters on U.S. soil. It is also a story of hope and endurance as Puerto Ricans on the island shared what little they had and the diaspora in Florida offered refuge. Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico as a high-end Category 4, and the storm surge, flash flooding, and countless landslides created widespread devastation. One hundred percent of the island lost drinking water and electricity. More than 3 million U.S. citizens lived for months without power, making it the worst blackout in American history. The slow recovery led to a mass evacuation. Thousands gathered what they had left and traveled to Florida—already home to 1 million Puerto Ricans. In Tossed to the Wind, María Padilla and Nancy Rosado interview Puerto Ricans from all walks of life who now live in Orlando and Kissimmee, who fight every day to pick up the pieces of their world after Hurricane Maria. In their own words, evacuees describe families living temporarily out of motels, parents anxious about providing for their children, children starting new schools, and everyone worried about the families and friends they left behind. Told from the midst of chaos and incomprehensible loss, these are the stories—filled with pain and wisdom, sadness and laughter—that showcase the strength and resolve of Puerto Ricans.

Book Being Tossed to and Fro the Way to Steady Yourself

Download or read book Being Tossed to and Fro the Way to Steady Yourself written by M. C. Paul and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a meaning to my life? This question confronts every one of us at one stage or another. The answer comes from within us in the form of another question: How can I know unless I created me myself? If we assume that man is a created being, we tend to say that the creator should reveal Himself and give meaning to his life. This revelation naturally has to be progressive, as life is always in progress. Man gets convinced finally when God becomes a man to reveal it to him. This conviction in his mind leads him to commitment of his will and it results in new life in his heart. The Bible says that this happens when man receives the good news about Jesus and His death on the cross. The purpose of this new life according to the Bible is to become like Jesus. There is a force which tries to pull man away from experiencing this new life. If a man persists and experiences it, then this force doesnt allow him to progress in this new life. Various tricks are played. The most prominent is false teaching. It does not allow believers to understand the Bible rightly. The essential doctrines to be accepted in unity are deliberately distorted. Spurious doctrines are promoted. The pairs of truth presented in the Bible are not allowed to be held in balance. Different kinds of experiences in the lives of biblical characters are ignored; only one is emphasized at the expense of all others. Various means of grace are not allowed to be tapped, and only one means of grace is shown. Full armour is not allowed to be put on and only one piece is shown to be sufficient to wage the battle. False teaching leaves the believers poverty-stricken in their faith and defenceless in their battle. This book presents polemical teaching to enable believers overcome these tricky hindrances and helps them march forward into the likeness of Jesus.
