Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universal Salvation is a hotly debated doctrine today among Christians. In The Renewal of All Things Waldron Scott argues that it provides a more relevant and more effective basis for Christian mission in a globalized, pluralistic, and postmodern world than does the contemporary model. "Scott rightly perceives that Christian theology needs to integrate the truths of the biblical metanarrative with the insights of both classical theology and contemporary science in seeking to address the missional issues facing the church today. In this readable book he offers a theologically adventurous and bold attempt to do just that. Even if readers disagree with some of his conclusions, as I myself do, all will find Scott's vision to be both generous and thought-provoking." Gregory MacDonald author of The Evangelical Universalist "Provoctive and insightful The Renewal of All Things will challenge what you think you know about God's plan for salvation and expose His love for us all in graphic detail. Whether you are a biblical scholar or a layperson, whether you believe in Scott's conclusions or not, this book will have you delving deeper into God's word to uncover its truths a fascinating read." Colin P. Watson, Sr. Executive Minister, Madison Avenue Christian Reformed Church President, Christian Reformed World Missions.

Book Growth R D Spillovers and the Role of Patent Systems

Download or read book Growth R D Spillovers and the Role of Patent Systems written by Bruno van Pottelsberghe de la Potterie and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-08-30 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book provides a comprehensive overview of twenty years of research on the economics of innovation and patent policies. Edited by Bruno van Pottelsberghe de la Potterie, the papers in this volume witness twenty years of advanced empirical research — triggered by intensive collaboration and inspired by his own professional experience at the OECD, METI and the European Patent Office. The Editor's publications in these fields have greatly contributed to better understand how innovation can be stimulated, how it can be measured, through which channels it contributes to growth, with a particular emphasis on the role of patent systems. In the introductory chapter, the Editor provides an overview of each subfield of investigation, by explaining the genesis of the research projects and adding some personal history. The book first displays major empirical findings on the effectiveness of science and technology policies in stimulating R&D, on how these policies affect the contribution of R&D to economic growth, and how to measure international R&D spillovers and what are their most effective channels. The policies that aim at stimulating innovation include R&D subsidies, public R&D, and R&D tax credits. The chapters that follow present foundational work on patent count methodologies aiming at improving innovation metrics, as well as creative contributions on patent valuation models. The book then presents pioneering contributions on the design of patent systems, including a thorough work on the role of fees, far-reaching analyses on quality, and critical contributions on the governance of patent systems in general and the European patent system in particular.

Book Modeling Spatial and Economic Impacts of Disasters

Download or read book Modeling Spatial and Economic Impacts of Disasters written by Yasuhide Okuyama and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is dedicated to the memory of Barclay G. Jones, Professor of City and Regional Planning and Regional Science at Cornell University. Over a decade ago, Barclay took on a fledgling area of study - economic modeling of disasters - and nurtured its early development. He served as the social science program director at the National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (NCEER), a university consortium sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency of the United States. In this capacity, Barclay shepherded and attracted a number of regional scientists to the study of disasters. He organized a conference, held in the ill-fated World Trade Center in September 1995, on "The Economic Consequences of Earthquakes: Preparing for the Unexpected. " He persistently advocated the importance of social science research in an establishment dominated by less-than-sympathetic natural scientists and engineers. In 1993, Barclay organized the first of a series of sessions on "Measuring Regional Economic Effects of Unscheduled Events" at the North American Meetings of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). This unusual nomenclature brought attention to the challenge that disasters -largely unanticipated, often sudden, and always disorderly - pose to the regional science modeling tradition. The sessions provided an annual forum for a growing coalition of researchers, where previously the literature had been fragmentary, scattered, and episodic. Since Barclay's unexpected passing in 1997, we have continued this effort in his tradition.
