Download or read book Personalized Hip and Knee Joint Replacement written by Charles Rivière and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book describes and illustrates the surgical techniques, implants, and technologies used for the purpose of personalized implantation of hip and knee components. This new and flourishing treatment philosophy offers important benefits over conventional systematic techniques, including component positioning appropriate to individual anatomy, improved surgical reproducibility and prosthetic performance, and a reduction in complications. The techniques described in the book aim to reproduce patients’ native anatomy and physiological joint laxity, thereby improving the prosthetic hip/knee kinematics and functional outcomes in the quest of the forgotten joint. They include kinematically aligned total knee/total hip arthroplasty, partial knee replacement, and hip resurfacing. The relevance of available and emerging technological tools for these personalized approaches is also explained, with coverage of, for example, robotics, computer-assisted surgery, and augmented reality. Contributions from surgeons who are considered world leaders in diverse fields of this novel surgical philosophy make this open access book will invaluable to a wide readership, from trainees at all levels to consultants practicing lower limb surgery

Download or read book Perspectives in Total Hip Arthroplasty written by Saverio Affatato and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total hip arthroplasty, the most commonly performed orthopedic procedure, is used to replace or reconstruct the hip with an artificial joint. Perspectives in Total Hip Arthroplasty outlines developments in technologies and biomaterials used for this procedure, with a focus on the tribological interactions of the materials used. Part one outlines the history of total hip arthroplasty and goes on to explore advances in techniques and biomaterials. Part two focuses on the tribology of materials used to perform this procedure, explaining the impact of wear on the load-bearing surface, a major cause of failure in hip prostheses. Chapters review a range of materials, including modern biomaterials, hybrid materials, metal, ceramic, and polyethylene. The book also discusses the tribological interactions of these materials when used in total hip arthroplasty. Perspectives in Total Hip Arthroplasty is a key resource for clinicians, researchers, and academics interested in the tribology of total hip arthroplasty, as well as materials researchers, engineers, and academics concerned with the tribology of biomaterials. - Covers techniques from innovative surgeons and designs from multinational manufacturers, as well as information on improvements in technologies and biomaterials - Discusses the tribology of all the major materials used in total hip arthroplasty
Download or read book The Well Cemented Total Hip Arthroplasty written by Steffen Breusch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-08 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cemented Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) remains one of the most successful procedures in Orthopaedic surgery. It has become very clear that it is the surgical expertise, in particular the quality of the cementing technique, which will affect long-term outcome and success. It is the intention of this book to provide an up-to-date comprehensive assessment of the entire field of cemented THA. Special emphasis has been given to practice-relevant aspects: well-illustrated and detailed operative steps as a practical guideline, a basic science chapter and long-term outcome data are provided. Minimally invasive surgery, modern perioperative management and patient fast tracking are covered. A number of highly respected experts have contributed to this in-depth compilation of the "state of the art" in 2005. This book is written and intended for both, trainees and established arthroplasty surgeons who are dedicated to perform a well-cemented THA.
Download or read book Interfaces in Total Hip Arthroplasty written by Ian D. Learmouth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total hip arthroplasty is carried out to relieve pain and restore function and the implant should outlast the patient. However, failure at one of the interfaces represents the commonest cause of failure of total hip replacement. The durability of the fixation interfaces and the articular interface are therefore critical in determining the long-term performance of the implant. This book accesses the opinions of a number of experts in their field on the important issues and factors influencing the component cement and bone cement interface that contribute to durability of fixation in these areas. In addition they explore how this fixation can be influenced both by the design of the implant, the material properties and the cement. The various material combinations that are available at the articular interface are also presented and the wear properties of and generation of debris from the interfaces are revealed.
Download or read book Tribology in Total Hip Arthroplasty written by Karl Knahr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-21 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 2010 EFORT Congress in Madrid, many interesting topics relating to tribology in total hip arthroplasty were discussed during a special day devoted entirely to the subject. So successful was the day, and such was the broad interest in the discussions, that EFORT decided that publication of all the presentations would be warmly welcomed by fellow professionals who were unable to attend. This book is the result. It includes detailed information on the different articulating materials and the wear to which they are subject. The various factors that contribute to bearing performance and control wear are thoroughly evaluated, and careful consideration is given to the technology and design solutions proposed with a view to producing low-wearing hip joints. This book will be of interest both to novices who want to learn more about the field and to experienced orthopaedic surgeons wishing to keep abreast of the latest developments.
Download or read book Total Hip Replacement Spectrum ECAB written by SKS Marya and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total hip replacement is increasingly gaining acceptance in patients with arthritis, trauma, or malignancy destroyed hip joints. Hip replacement being a highly complex surgery requires expertise and knowledge of different techniques and equipments. There has been an increase in the number of young patients undergoing hip replacement, thus more so increasing the need of long lasting implants and best possible functioning. Moreover, the newer techniques like computerassisted hip arthroplasty and minimally invasive hip replacement have benefited the patients with the advantages of faster recovery, less pain, shorter hospital stay, and reduction in treatment costs.
Download or read book Low Friction Arthroplasty of the Hip written by J. Charnley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theme of this work is the application of the engmeermg theory of frictional torque to total hip replacement. The author adhered tenaciously to this theory, involving the use of a small-diameter femoral head, throughout the epoch when the large-diame ter, metal-to-metal design dominated the field. During that considerable period general satisfaction with the early results rendered criticisms of the large-diameter head unwelcome. There was a formidable array of counter criticism: the small head would pierce a film of synovial fluid; the small head would wear the socket too rapidly; the small head would always have a high risk of dislocation; detachment of the trochanter, to achieve precise orientation for the small head, was unacceptable. But all these objections have now been largely overcome. Lubrication of high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWP) on metal is now accepted as being mainly by the boundary regime with thick fluid films playing no part. We now know that HMWP can indeed tolerate the very high stresses imposed by the small head and in tribological theory there may even be some advantage in high stress. Dislocation is now known not to be an automatic sequel to the small head.
