Book Torture in a Civilised Way My Own Real Case History

Download or read book Torture in a Civilised Way My Own Real Case History written by Dr. Sammy Khan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book describe my own real legal mental case which took place when I was working as not-ethnic medical doctor/ general practitioner for the NHS in a small town in a civilized western European country. The Book describe how the legal part of my case was fabricated and run for several years by a single arrogant and dishonest local police officer with the help from few arrogant and racists social workers from the local welfare and a biased police court magistrate after 10 years of my practice because of my disagreements, disputes and quarrels with them defending the equal legal and social rights of large number my patients from the Middle East and Turkey and large number of ethnics from street gangs who were poor needy social clients of the welfare with very hard complicated psycho-social legal problems . Also my Book describes how the mental part of my case was created, describing how my mental evaluations were made by biased, incompetent, racist and dishonest evaluators using shockingly wrong methods and procedures which totally deviated from all known international guidelines and recommendations for making proper and fair mental assessment of a defendant for court. I explain my case and my claims reference to published international methods and standards. My Book shows how my incorrectly obtained mental findings were presented and explained in courts only by the police prosecutor where the judging people and the prosecutor were totally blank even in basal psychology and psychiatry and mental evaluations, when the evaluators were absent during the trials . My case shows, that even in a civilized European democratic country corruption and racial behaviors are found and practiced by the authorities and the common public towards the minorities or specific types of people and their social and legal rights. My case shows how mental evaluations and their findings can be abused by all parts involved in a legal mental case to achieve specific purposes .My case shows how the bias, the incompetence and the dishonest behaviors of the mental evaluators are added to the unreliability, invalidity and the inaccuracies found in present time psychological tests and the mental diagnostic systems can magnify the harmful consequences on the evaluated when mental evaluations are abused to achieve specific purposes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulitzer Prize Finalist Silver Gavel Award Finalist “A sobering history of how American communities and institutions have relied on torture in various forms since before the United States was founded.” —Los Angeles Times “That Americans as a people and a nation-state are violent is indisputable. That we are also torturers, domestically and internationally, is not so well established. The myth that we are not torturers will persist, but Civilizing Torture will remain a powerful antidote in confronting it.” —Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell “Remarkable...A searing analysis of America’s past that helps make sense of its bewildering present.” —David Garland, author of Peculiar Institution Most Americans believe that a civilized state does not torture, but that belief has repeatedly been challenged in moments of crisis at home and abroad. From the Indian wars to Vietnam, from police interrogation to the War on Terror, US institutions have proven far more amenable to torture than the nation’s commitment to liberty would suggest. Civilizing Torture traces the history of debates about the efficacy of torture and reveals a recurring struggle to decide what limits to impose on the power of the state. At a time of escalating rhetoric aimed at cleansing the nation of the undeserving and an erosion of limits on military power, the debate over torture remains critical and unresolved.

Book International Handbook of War Torture and Terrorism

Download or read book International Handbook of War Torture and Terrorism written by Kathleen Malley-Morrison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-15 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armed conflict, on domestic or foreign soil, impacts people’s daily lives and shapes policy around the world. Millions live with the threat of terrorism, whether from random sources or known enemies. And the acceptability of torture is debated by politicians and public alike. The International Handbook of War, Torture, and Terrorism synthesizes historical backgrounds, current trends, and findings from the Personal and Institutional Rights to Aggression and Peace Survey (PAIRTAPS), administered in forty countries over nine global regions. Contributors examine the social, cognitive, and emotional roots of people’s thinking on war and national security issues, particularly concerning the role of governments in declaring war, invading other countries, or torturing prisoners. By focusing on the cultural traditions and colonial histories of broad regions rather than of individual nations, the book demonstrates how context shapes ordinary citizens’ views on what is justifiable during times of war, as well as more nebulous concepts of patriotism and security. The Handbook: Introduces the PAIRTAPS and explains the methodology for analyzing responses. Defines war-related concepts from the unique perspectives of Western Europe, U.K./U.S., Middle East, Gulf States, Russia/Balkans, Africa, Latin America, South/Southeast Asia, and East Asia. Provides an integrative summary of definitions and points of view. Situates results in terms of social engagement/disengagement theory. Considers implications for peace and reconciliation. As a reflection of the changing global landscape, the International Handbook of War, Torture, and Terrorism deserves to be read by a wide range of researchers in peace psychology, political science, sociology, and anthropology.

This book makes students ask why the system is what it is and why it does what it does—and what are the results of those actions." -Milton C. Hill, Stephen F. Austin State University Criminal (In)Justice: A Critical Introduction takes an unflinching look at the American criminal justice system and the social forces that affect the implementation of justice. Author Aaron Fichtelberg uses a unique, critical perspective to introduce students to criminal justice and encourages them to look closer at the intersection of race, class, gender, and inequality in the criminal justice system. Covering each of the foundational areas of the criminal justice system—policing, courts, and corrections—this book takes an in-depth look at the influence of inequality, making it ideal for instructors who want students to critically assess and understand the American criminal justice system.

Book Thou Shalt Never Get Rid of Us

Download or read book Thou Shalt Never Get Rid of Us written by Miguel Asecas and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2021-04-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the foes are inside you, the only option left is to fight... Introducing Thou Shalt Never Get Rid of Us, a story of an uncanny part of Miguel Asecas' life. It is a true story told without makeup. An explosive combination of drugs, stress, and sleep deprivation which led him to an ordeal of twenty-five long years, during which his life elapsed between two very different worlds: the actual world as known by all of us, with a lifestyle not so different than that of many other people. And then there was an inner world full of delusions, paranoia, and auditive hallucinations, in which there are happening situations and appearing characters every time more bizarre. His goal: to not allow “them” to ruin his life. To do that he felt would be enough. This story is also that of a process of personal growth and recovery. He quit taking drugs and transitioned from being almost overwhelmed by the voices to coping successfully with them and even taming them to an extent. This is not a guide, nor a manual for others to copy, but is a tale of courage and triumph all the same.
