By the end of the 365-day journey, readers will see their own journeys in light of salvation history. This brilliantly detailed and documented volume brings together essays by fifteen leading scholars field to present a comprehensive and richly evocative portrait of Native American life on the eve of Columbus's first landfall. Developed at the D'Arcy McNickle Center for the History of the American Indian and edited by award-winning author Alvin M. Josehpy, Jr., America in 1492 is an invaluable work that combines the insights of historians, anthropologists, and students of art, religion, and folklore. Its dozens of illustrations, drawn from largely from the rare books and manuscripts housed at the Newberry Library, open a window on worlds flourished in the Americas five hundred years ago.

Book Seizing the Nonviolent Moments

Download or read book Seizing the Nonviolent Moments written by Nancy Small and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-01-08 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is filled with opportunities to practice nonviolence. If we kept track, we'd be surprised at how often we get to choose a violent or nonviolent response to a given situation. Seizing these moments is a spiritual practice that shapes a nonviolent heart. Many people doing this together shapes the heart of a nonviolent world. This book is a humble and accessible approach to nonviolence based on the belief that no one is perfectly nonviolent. We are all works in progress. Each chapter presents an imaginative interpretation of a scripture story about seizing a nonviolent moment that sheds new light on nonviolence and its spirituality. Stories of contemporary peacemakers woven throughout offer lessons for living a spirituality of nonviolence for our times. Prophetic words from the US Catholic bishops emphasize the essential role of peacemaking in renewing the earth. Questions following each chapter inspire personal reflection and make the book a welcome resource for classrooms, parishes, and small groups. The more we seize the nonviolent moments in our lives, the more we are transformed by them. And the more we experience the power of nonviolence within ourselves, the more we believe in its potential to transform our troubled world.

Book A Stranger in the House of God

A Stranger in the House of God addresses fundamental questions and struggles faced by spiritual seekers and mature believers. Like a contemporary Pilgrim’s Progress, it traces the author’s journey and explores his experiences with both charismatic and evangelical Christianity. It also describes his transformation from religious outsider to ordained pastor. John Koessler provides a poignant and often humorous window into the interior of the soul as he describes his journey from doubt and struggle with the church to personal faith

Book excerpt: Soulshaping is the inspiring memoir of an archetypal "male warrior"–a trial lawyer–who struggled to find his heart and a more authentic, soulful path. Rivetingly personal and profoundly universal, this book is for anyone who has heard a whisper of something truer calling out to them amid the distractions of modern life. Jeff Brown’s dramatic and often funny story takes readers through remarkably human experiences–emotional, physical, and economic–as he vividly recounts his troubled childhood, his success in apprenticing with Canada’s top criminal lawyer, and his ultimate decision to leave the law and begin an inner journey to discover his soul’s purpose. A work of courageous self-creation, Soulshaping reminds us that we are all truly connected, that our seemingly isolated struggles are actually part of the shared human challenge to live a life that is heart-centered and soul-driven. Both down-to-earth and magically mystical, Soulshaping will meet you where you live–and where you long to live.

  • Release : 2014
  • ISBN : 1452589046
  • Pages : 307 pages

Download or read book Always A Loveolution written by Holly Peckskamp and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did it come to be called: the Loveolution? An unexplained urge when I woke one morning, a feeling that defied all logic, a moment in time that stood on one single drop of blood. It all came down to one simple question: Did I really have leukemia? Loveolution is not yet a word in our dictionary, however, if broken down the word evolution means any process of formation or growth and development. Taking it one step further, adding love to evolution, becomes Loveolution, which I believe is the process of creating oneness and the foundation of love. It takes a village to help us each personally evolve towards oneness. Always a Loveolution is an amazing journey, which will help you rediscover a connection to your soul without any boundaries, rules, or judgments. It is an experience that will give you the tools to start your personal journey to align your mind, body, and soul. It creates confidence and a safe place to step forward and empower yourself, reigniting your inner light. It is a blessed opportunity to leave all suffering and/or pain in the past, a gift to experience God's guidance from the depths of your soul. It is my prayer and hope that this story will offer some wisdom to awaken your spirit to the elements of divine oneness.

Book Nectar 14

  • Release : 2004-12-24

Download or read book Nectar 14 written by Babaji Bob Kindler and published by Sarada Ramakrishna Vivekananda Associations. This book was released on 2004-12-24 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The universality of world religions is certainly a subject of interest in these engaging and pivotal times, and one that is treated multi-dimensionally in this issue of Nectar. Nectar of Nondual Truth has, for three years, attempted to present this principle by offering articles from writers and practitioners who are deeply ensconced in and in love with their chosen path and ideal, and can therefore express the one indivisible Truth via their own deeply cherished stream of Wisdom. This is crucial — the practice of one tradition until realization through that single pathway has been achieved — in order to avoid confusion, contradiction, misperception and the surface understanding that usually accompanies a mere eclectic point of view devoid of penetrating and longevitous spiritual practice. The well-guided expansion of the limited human mind is likened to raising a family, wherein different children must each be given special attention based upon comprehension of their differing needs, capacities, and temperaments. But before all this is attempted, the first-born must be attended to, and then all the resultant growth in terms of challenges, mistakes, successes and valuable insights into child-rearing can thus be applied to the raising of those who come after. Wherever the first-born is neglected, or followed too soon by other siblings, thus falling into the background of the overburdened parent’s full attention, malnutrition on several levels occurs, and the valuable developmental stages of early growth are stripped of their power and purpose, resulting in a stunted condition — a life shorn of its fullest possibilities and potentials. This unfortunate outcome in the individual family unit is mirrored by the undernourished spiritual life of contemporary living beings in general, due not only to their own debilitating complacency around purificatory practices, but also due to their lack of appreciation, their ambivalence, and even their hostility towards the sacred traditions of the world — religions adhered to by the same-selfed brothers and sisters of the multifarious but inseparable family of mankind. On the other hand, after sincere and one-pointed commitment to Truth is attained, followed up by a firm dedication to one’s path, a sedulous practice, and an unswerving devotion to God and Guru — all constantly cultivated — the onset of spiritual maturation will occur as a matter of course.
