Download or read book Topological Rings written by S. Warner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-07-07 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text brings the reader to the frontiers of current research in topological rings. The exercises illustrate many results and theorems while a comprehensive bibliography is also included. The book is aimed at those readers acquainted with some very basic point-set topology and algebra, as normally presented in semester courses at the beginning graduate level or even at the advanced undergraduate level. Familiarity with Hausdorff, metric, compact and locally compact spaces and basic properties of continuous functions, also with groups, rings, fields, vector spaces and modules, and with Zorn's Lemma, is also expected.

Book Operator Algebras Generated by Commuting Projections A Vector Measure Approach

Download or read book Operator Algebras Generated by Commuting Projections A Vector Measure Approach written by Werner Ricker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic investigation of the theory of those commutative, unital subalgebras (of bounded linear operators acting in a Banach space) which are closed for some given topology and are generated by a uniformly bounded Boolean algebra of projections. One of the main aims is to employ the methods of vector measures and integration as a unifying theme throughout. This yields proofs of several classical results which are quite different to the classical ones. This book is directed to both those wishing to learn this topic for the first time and to current experts in the field.

Book Recent Progress in General Topology

Download or read book Recent Progress in General Topology written by M. Husek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-11-20 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These papers survey the developments in General Topology and the applications of it which have taken place since the mid 1980s. The book may be regarded as an update of some of the papers in the Handbook of Set-Theoretic Topology (eds. Kunen/Vaughan, North-Holland, 1984), which gives an almost complete picture of the state of the art of Set Theoretic Topology before 1984. In the present volume several important developments are surveyed that surfaced in the period 1984-1991. This volume may also be regarded as a partial update of Open Problems in Topology (eds. van Mill/Reed, North-Holland, 1990). Solutions to some of the original 1100 open problems are discussed and new problems are posed.

Book Theory of Sets Groups Rings Fields Integral Domains Vector Spaces Metric Spaces and Topoloical Spaces

Download or read book Theory of Sets Groups Rings Fields Integral Domains Vector Spaces Metric Spaces and Topoloical Spaces written by Ram Bilas Misra and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By now Algebra (based on set theoretic notions) and Topology have established their dominance over almost all the disciplines in pure mathematics. Both of these subjects have become so vast that they need their detailed discussion separately. However, an attempt has been made here to present the basic and core topics of these subjects together. The book comprises of three main parts: (i) Algebraic systems: Sets and Functions, Groups, Rings, Fields, Integral domains and Linear (or Vector) spaces; (ii) Metric spaces, and (iii) Topological spaces. The first chapter starts with Sets and Functions. It includes the main features of the Set Theory needed in our subsequent discussions. The next three chapters dwell upon different kinds of algebraic structures as detailed above and cover almost all the necessary information needed by a beginner. Metric spaces have been dealt in detail in Chapter 5 including topics on 'Sequences and their convergence'. Bounded and unbounded sets in the metric spaces are also given. The last chapter deals with the Topological spaces. It gives a detailed account of various types of these spaces and covers almost all important topics in the subject needed for a first course

Book Topological Vector Spaces and Algebras

Download or read book Topological Vector Spaces and Algebras written by Lucien Waelbroeck and published by Lecture Notes in Mathematics. This book was released on 1971-12-16 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures associated with these notes were given at the Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, during the local winter 1970. To emphasize the properties of topological algebras, the author had started out his lecture with results about topological algebras, and introduced the linear results as he went along.

Book Group Actions in Ergodic Theory Geometry and Topology

Download or read book Group Actions in Ergodic Theory Geometry and Topology written by Robert J. Zimmer and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2019-12-23 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert J. Zimmer is best known in mathematics for the highly influential conjectures and program that bear his name. Group Actions in Ergodic Theory, Geometry, and Topology: Selected Papers brings together some of the most significant writings by Zimmer, which lay out his program and contextualize his work over the course of his career. Zimmer’s body of work is remarkable in that it involves methods from a variety of mathematical disciplines, such as Lie theory, differential geometry, ergodic theory and dynamical systems, arithmetic groups, and topology, and at the same time offers a unifying perspective. After arriving at the University of Chicago in 1977, Zimmer extended his earlier research on ergodic group actions to prove his cocycle superrigidity theorem which proved to be a pivotal point in articulating and developing his program. Zimmer’s ideas opened the door to many others, and they continue to be actively employed in many domains related to group actions in ergodic theory, geometry, and topology. In addition to the selected papers themselves, this volume opens with a foreword by David Fisher, Alexander Lubotzky, and Gregory Margulis, as well as a substantial introductory essay by Zimmer recounting the course of his career in mathematics. The volume closes with an afterword by Fisher on the most recent developments around the Zimmer program.

Book Topological Riesz Spaces and Measure Theory

Download or read book Topological Riesz Spaces and Measure Theory written by D. H. Fremlin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-11-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measure Theory has played an important part in the development of functional analysis: it has been the source of many examples for functional analysis, including some which have been leading cases for major advances in the general theory, and certain results in measure theory have been applied to prove general results in analysis. Often the ordinary functional analyst finds the language and a style of measure theory a stumbling block to a full understanding of these developments. Dr Fremlin's aim in writing this book is therefore to identify those concepts in measure theory which are most relevant to functional analysis and to integrate them into functional analysis in a way consistent with that subject's structure and habits of thought. This is achieved by approaching measure theory through the properties of Riesz spaces and especially topological Riesz spaces. Thus this book gathers together material which is not readily available elsewhere in a single collection and presents it in a form accessible to the first-year graduate student, whose knowledge of measure theory need not have progressed beyond that of the ordinary lebesgue integral.
