Download or read book Characteristic Classes written by John Willard Milnor and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1974 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of characteristic classes provides a meeting ground for the various disciplines of differential topology, differential and algebraic geometry, cohomology, and fiber bundle theory. As such, it is a fundamental and an essential tool in the study of differentiable manifolds. In this volume, the authors provide a thorough introduction to characteristic classes, with detailed studies of Stiefel-Whitney classes, Chern classes, Pontrjagin classes, and the Euler class. Three appendices cover the basics of cohomology theory and the differential forms approach to characteristic classes, and provide an account of Bernoulli numbers. Based on lecture notes of John Milnor, which first appeared at Princeton University in 1957 and have been widely studied by graduate students of topology ever since, this published version has been completely revised and corrected.

Book New Ideas In Low Dimensional Topology

Download or read book New Ideas In Low Dimensional Topology written by Vassily Olegovich Manturov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-01-27 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of a selection of articles devoted to new ideas and developments in low dimensional topology. Low dimensions refer to dimensions three and four for the topology of manifolds and their submanifolds. Thus we have papers related to both manifolds and to knotted submanifolds of dimension one in three (classical knot theory) and two in four (surfaces in four dimensional spaces). Some of the work involves virtual knot theory where the knots are abstractions of classical knots but can be represented by knots embedded in surfaces. This leads both to new interactions with classical topology and to new interactions with essential combinatorics.

Book Mathematics Of Harmony As A New Interdisciplinary Direction And Golden Paradigm Of Modern Science Volume 2 Algorithmic Measurement Theory Fibonacci And Golden Arithmetic s And Ternary Mirror symmetrical Arithmetic

Download or read book Mathematics Of Harmony As A New Interdisciplinary Direction And Golden Paradigm Of Modern Science Volume 2 Algorithmic Measurement Theory Fibonacci And Golden Arithmetic s And Ternary Mirror symmetrical Arithmetic written by Alexey Stakhov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume II is the second part of the 3-volume book Mathematics of Harmony as a New Interdisciplinary Direction and 'Golden' Paradigm of Modern Science. 'Mathematics of Harmony' rises in its origin to the 'harmonic ideas' of Pythagoras, Plato and Euclid, this 3-volume book aims to promote more deep understanding of ancient conception of the 'Universe Harmony,' the main conception of ancient Greek science, and implementation of this conception to modern science and education. This 3-volume book is a result of the authors' research in the field of Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Section and their applications. It provides a broad introduction to the fascinating and beautiful subject of the 'Mathematics of Harmony,' a new interdisciplinary direction of modern science. This direction has many unexpected applications in contemporary mathematics (a new approach to a history of mathematics, the generalized Fibonacci numbers and the generalized golden proportions, the generalized Binet's formulas), theoretical physics (new hyperbolic models of Nature) and computer science (algorithmic measurement theory, number systems with irrational bases, Fibonacci computers, ternary mirror-symmetrical arithmetic). The books are intended for a wide audience including mathematics teachers of high schools, students of colleges and universities and scientists in the field of mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science. The book may be used as an advanced textbook by graduate students and even ambitious undergraduates in mathematics and computer science.

Book Scientific Legacy Of Professor Zbigniew Oziewicz Selected Papers From The International Conference Applied Category Theory Graph operad logic

Download or read book Scientific Legacy Of Professor Zbigniew Oziewicz Selected Papers From The International Conference Applied Category Theory Graph operad logic written by Hilda Maria Colin Garcia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Zbigniew Oziewicz from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the book consists of papers on a wide variety of topics related to the work of Professor Oziewicz, which were presented at the special conference on Graph-Operads-Logic (GOL 2021), selected through peer review to promote his scientific legacy.Professor Oziewicz was a great enthusiast and supporter of category theory and its applications in physics, as well as in various areas of mathematics (topology, noncommutative geometry, etc.). In particular, he made significant contributions to the theory of Frobenius algebras, which now are becoming more important due to their connection with topological quantum field theories that are used in mathematical physics and in quantum topology. Professor Oziewicz was a great and very generous teacher, who immersed his students in the beautiful ideas of category theory as well as mathematical physics and computation. It was his idea to start a series of conferences under the title Graphs-Operads-Logic, most of them held in Mexico, with some of them in the USA, which were a great platform to discuss various ideas connected with category theory and its various applications, and to make friends with other scientists. Despite his passing, the GOL 2021 conference is included in this series to pay tribute to his many contributions to diverse areas of science. The book is laid out in twelve main topics where we can find relevant works from distinguished experts.

Book New Horizons For Second order Cybernetics

Download or read book New Horizons For Second order Cybernetics written by Alexander Riegler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In almost 60 articles this book reviews the current state of second-order cybernetics and investigates which new research methods second-order cybernetics can offer to tackle wicked problems in science and in society. The contributions explore its application to both scientific fields (such as mathematics, psychology and consciousness research) and non-scientific ones (such as design theory and theater science). The book uses a pluralistic, multifaceted approach to discuss these applications: Each main article is accompanied by several commentaries and author responses, which together allow the reader to discover further perspectives than in the original article alone. This procedure shows that second-order cybernetics is already on its way to becoming an idea shared by many researchers in a variety of disciplines.

Book Quipu Decorated Permutation Representations Of Finite Groups

Download or read book Quipu Decorated Permutation Representations Of Finite Groups written by Yongju Bae and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies dihedral groups, dicyclic groups, other finite subgroups of the 3-dimensional sphere, and the 2-fold extensions of the symmetric group on 4 letters from the point of view of decorated string diagrams of permutations. These are our metaphorical quipu. As you might expect, the book is replete with illustrations. In (almost) all cases, explicit diagrams for the elements of the group are given. The exception is the binary icosahedral group in which only the generators and relations are exhibited.

This template has been applied to a set of knowledge domains for verification purposes: pre-life-evolution, human molecular genetics and biological evolution, as well as one social application on classroom management. The importance of the book comes in the following ways:

Book Knots Braids And Mobius Strips Particle Physics And The Geometry Of Elementarity An Alternative View

Download or read book Knots Braids And Mobius Strips Particle Physics And The Geometry Of Elementarity An Alternative View written by Jack Shulman Avrin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-13 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary particles in this book exist as Solitons in-and-of the fabric of spacetime itself. As such they are characterized by their geometry, that is their topology and configuration which lead directly to their physical attributes and behavior as well as to a simplification and reduction of assumptions and the importation of parameter values. The emphasis of the book is thus on that geometry, the algebraic geometry associated with taxonomical issues and the differential geometry that determines the physics as well as on simplifying the results. In itself, however, the process of assembling and developing what eventually went into the book has been a singularly rewarding journey. Along the way some fascinating insights and connections to known physical attributes and theories emerge, some predictable but others unbidden and even unanticipated. The book is intended to summarize that journey in a way that, readers with a range of backgrounds will find interesting and provocative. Connections to other physical theories and subjects are also discussed. A most gratifying development is the emergence of a unifying principle underlying the epistemological structure of not only the elementary particles but of such diverse fields as Radar, Quantum mechanics, Biology, Cosmology and the Philosophy of science.

Book Polynomial One cocycles For Knots And Closed Braids

Download or read book Polynomial One cocycles For Knots And Closed Braids written by Fiedler Thomas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, knot theory deals with diagrams of knots and the search of invariants of diagrams which are invariant under the well known Reidemeister moves. This book goes one step beyond: it gives a method to construct invariants for one parameter famillies of diagrams and which are invariant under 'higher' Reidemeister moves. Luckily, knots in 3-space, often called classical knots, can be transformed into knots in the solid torus without loss of information. It turns out that knots in the solid torus have a particular rich topological moduli space. It contains many 'canonical' loops to which the invariants for one parameter families can be applied, in order to get a new sort of invariants for classical knots.
