Book Application of Abstract Differential Equations to Some Mechanical Problems

Download or read book Application of Abstract Differential Equations to Some Mechanical Problems written by I. Titeux and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-27 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE The theory of differential-operator equations has been described in various monographs, but the initial physical problem which leads to these equations is often hidden. When the physical problem is studied, the mathematical proofs are either not given or are quickly explained. In this book, we give a systematic treatment of the partial differential equations which arise in elastostatic problems. In particular, we study problems which are obtained from asymptotic expansion with two scales. Here the methods of operator pencils and differential-operator equations are used. This book is intended for scientists and graduate students in Functional Analy sis, Differential Equations, Equations of Mathematical Physics, and related topics. It would undoubtedly be very useful for mechanics and theoretical physicists. We would like to thank Professors S. Yakubov and S. Kamin for helpfull dis cussions of some parts of the book. The work on the book was also partially supported by the European Community Program RTN-HPRN-CT-2002-00274. xiii INTRODUCTION In first two sections of the introduction, a classical mathematical problem will be exposed: the Laplace problem. The domain of definition will be, on the first time, an infinite strip and on the second time, a sector. To solve this problem, a well known separation of variables method will be used. In this way, the structure of the solution can be explicitly found. For more details about the separation of variables method exposed in this part, the reader can refer to, for example, the book by D. Leguillon and E. Sanchez-Palencia [LS].

Book Abstract Methods in Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Abstract Methods in Partial Differential Equations written by Robert W. Carroll and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained text is directed to graduate students with some previous exposure to classical partial differential equations. Readers can attain a quick familiarity with various abstract points of view in partial differential equations, allowing them to read the literature and begin thesis work. The author's detailed presentation requires no prior knowledge of many mathematical subjects and illustrates the methods' applicability to the solution of interesting differential problems. The treatment emphasizes existence-uniqueness theory as a topic in functional analysis and examines abstract evolution equations and ordinary differential equations with operator coefficients. A concluding chapter on global analysis develops some basic geometrical ideas essential to index theory, overdetermined systems, and related areas. In addition to exercises for self-study, the text features a thorough bibliography. Appendixes cover topology and fixed-point theory in addition to Banach algebras, analytic functional calculus, fractional powers of operators, and interpolation theory.

Book Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces written by S D Zaidman and published by Chapman and Hall/CRC. This book was released on 1999-05-20 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces provides an elementary treatment of this very classical topic-but presented in a rather unique way. The author offers the functional analysis interconnected with specialized sections on differential equations, thus creating a self-contained text that includes most of the necessary functional analysis background, often with quite complete proofs. Beginning with some basic functional analysis-Hilbert and Banach spaces and their linear operators-Dr. Zaidman then presents some results about the abstract Cauchy problem, in implicit or explicit form, and related semigroups of operators, weak and ultraweak solutions, the uniqueness of the Cauchy problem, the uniqueness of bounded ultraweak solutions, and the well-posed ultraweak Cauchy problem. He goes on to present some results on almost-periodic solutions and an asymptotic result for a differential inequality in ultraweak form. Designed to inspire interest in this elegant and rapidly growing field of mathematics, this volume presents the material at a relatively elementary level-requiring a minimum of knowledge and ability in the field-yet with depth sufficient for understanding various special topics in operator differential equations. Many of the research results appear for the first time in book form and some for the first time anywhere. Researchers in the theories of differential equations in abstract spaces, semigroups of operators, and evolution equations, along with researchers in mathematical physics and quantum mechanics will find this work both enlightening and accessible.

Book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations written by Haim Brezis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a completely revised, updated, and expanded English edition of the important Analyse fonctionnelle (1983). In addition, it contains a wealth of problems and exercises (with solutions) to guide the reader. Uniquely, this book presents in a coherent, concise and unified way the main results from functional analysis together with the main results from the theory of partial differential equations (PDEs). Although there are many books on functional analysis and many on PDEs, this is the first to cover both of these closely connected topics. Since the French book was first published, it has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Greek and Chinese. The English edition makes a welcome addition to this list.
