Book Last of the Ten Fighter Boys

Download or read book Last of the Ten Fighter Boys written by Jimmy Corbin and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1940, against the backdrop of the Battle of Britain, 66 Squadron's commanding officer, Squadron Leader Athol Forbes, asked ten of his pilots to record their experiences of flying one of the greatest aerial battles ever waged. The Ten Fighter Boys, published in 1942, comprised the first-hand accounts of pilot officers and sergeant pilots from all walks of life among them was Sergeant Jimmy Corbin, who wrote the third chapter. He was 23 – old by pilot standards – and, like the rest of the squadron, based at Biggin Hill, Kent. Now, sixty years later, Flight Lieutenant Jimmy Corbin, Spitfire pilot, tells his extraordinary wartime story. He describes how an ordinary working-class boy from Maidstone was propelled into the thick of action in the skies over Kent during the summer and autumn of 1940. As the sole survivor of the original ' Ten Fighter Boys', Jimmy's story is all the more poignant now that the men who fought the Battle of Britain pass from living memory.

Book Valuing Ecosystem Services

Download or read book Valuing Ecosystem Services written by Stavros Georgiou and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 2012 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecosystem services can be broadly defined as the aspects of ecosystems that provide benefits to people. This book provides guidance on the valuation of ecosystem services, using the case of multifunctional wetlands to illustrate and make recommendations regarding the methods and techniques that can be applied to appraise management options. It provides a review of ecosystem service valuation rationale, including its importance from both a policy and project appraisal perspective, and a useful reference when considering policy and appraisal of ecosystem management options. It shows how legal obligations and other high-level management targets should be taken into account in valuation exercises, thus giving important policy context to the management options. The authors set out what they call an Ecosystem Services Approach to the full appraisal of the role of ecosystem services in the economy and society. Although concentrating on wetlands, the approaches suggested provide an assessment framework that can be applied to other types of ecosystem assets.

Download or read book Knut Brice s Massacre written by Skye Smith and published by Skye Smith. This book was released on 2019-05-13 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cover Flap English children learn that Knut the Great was a pre-Norman king born of Royal Danish blood who thought he could command the ocean tides. The rest of Europe learn that he was the Emperor of the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Irish Sea and the Channel. Knut was the son of Sweyn Forkbeard, a Danish king of kings who by 1000AD ruled all of Scandinavia. His empire was at peace, trade was thriving, and life was better than anyone could remember. Meanwhile the Norse trading and raiding empire, which stretched from Norway through the Irish Sea to Normandy, was crumbling. Everyone knows that the Normans invaded England in 1066, but few realize that the Normans also invaded England in 1000. Our Joms hero Vagn Akesson is caught right in the middle. About the Author Skye Smith is my pen name. My interest in Knut stems from the endless research I did while writing “The Hoodsman” series of historical novels about the Norman invasion of England. That invasion by William the Conqueror was not a quick subjugation of an Anglo-Saxon England, but a long and bitter genocide of an Anglo-Danish England and the destruction of Knut’s great legacy. The first novel “Knut - Jomsviking” sets the characters and scene for the entire series, so if you haven’t yet read it, now would be a good time. This fifth novel in historical sequence describes life in England under the reign of Aethelred the Unread, focussing on Devon. Other Novels By The Same Author: The Hoodsman – 12 historical adventures set in the Norman conquest. Maya’s Aura – 8 new age adventures while tripping around the world. The Pistoleer – 9 historical adventures set in the English Civil War. Knut – many historical adventures set in the Viking Era. Knut #1 – Jomsviking (980 – 984) Knut #2 – Varangian (986 – 992) Knut #3 – Strandhogg (993 – 994) Knut #4 – Forkbeard’s Peace (995 – 999) Knut #5 – Brice’s Massacre (1000 – 1002) Knut #6 – Vengeance (1002 – 1006 coming soon)
