Book Tools for Storage and Retrieval of Ada Software Components in a Software Base

Download or read book Tools for Storage and Retrieval of Ada Software Components in a Software Base written by Christopher S. Eagle and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One problem facing the Computer Aided Prototyping System (CAPS) project at the Naval Postgraduate School, is the lack of a large repository of existing reliable software components to draw upon for the creation of new prototype designs. Specifically, it is the lack of Prototype System Description Language (PSDL) specifications which describe Ada software components, that prevents Ada software components from being incorporated into the CAPS software base. Previously, PSDL specification had to be generated manually for each Ada software component being added into the software base. This process was time consuming and error prone. The primary goal of this thesis is to solve this problem by creating a tool which accepts an Ada Package Specification as input and automatically generates its corresponding Prototype System Description Language (PS DL) specification. The Ada package along with its PSDL specification may then be stored directly into the CAPS software base. The result of this thesis is a translator that examines each declaration contained in an Ada Package Specification and creates a corresponding PSDL specification. This tool allows the CAPS software base to be populated much faster utilizing existing DOD Ada software libraries such as the CAMP, ASSET, RAPID, and CRSS libraries. This tool has demonstrated its effectiveness by translating several complex components of the Common Ada Missile Packages into PSDL specifications.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this jOint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 40 (thesis year 1995) a total of 10,746 thesis titles from 19 Canadian and 144 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 40 reports theses submitted in 1995, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book The Software Factory Challenge

Download or read book The Software Factory Challenge written by Herbert Weber and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eureka Software Factory project (ESF) was set up by a Group of European partners in 1987. Its objective was broadly to improve the large-scale software production process by introducing an industrialised approach to have The Software Factory Challenge social, organisational and technical aspects. The project was set up under the pan-European Eureka programme, and it was funded by the partners together with their national governments. This book is not a history of the ESF project, but rather a presentation of its main ideas and achievements, and an account of how the concepts pioneered by the project have become part of a general movement in both the industrial and academic domains. In this movement, the facility for the production, use and maintenance of large-scale computer artefacts (the Software Factory) is treated in a wide and `organic' way, so as to include concepts such as business value and process improvement; with the development of new technologies being driven by these new, wide requirements. This new approach is in contrast with a narrowly technological one, in which individual tasks like programming are aided by machines but in which the production process as a whole is not supported. The main body of the book is divided into four Parts. Part I gives a short overview of the ESF project and its ideas, and goes on to attempt to place the ESF work in the context of industry as a whole (with reference to both producers and users of Information Technology systems). Part II sets out to explain the technological basis of the Software Factory as seen by ESF and goes on to describe some experimental and pioneering implementations of Factory Support Environments and their constituents. Part III is devoted to the most complete implementation of an ESF Factory Support Environment to date, Kernel/2r. This Section provides a highly detailed discussion of both design and implementation issues. In Part IV addresses what deployment strategies are now available to continue the spread of these ideas in order to meet the goal of better software-based systems (i.e. systems which are safer, more economical to build, more easily changed and more useful than those that have been built up to now). Finally, a Glossary of Terms and a list of References is given. Readers: those who have a professional interest in Information Technology.

Book Applying Software Metrics

Download or read book Applying Software Metrics written by Paul Oman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1996-11-13 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Features a useful collection of important and practical papers on applying software metrics and measurement. The book details the importance of planning a successful measurement program with a complete discussion of why, what, where, when, and how to measure and who should be involved. Each chapter addresses these significant questions and provides the essential answers in building an effective measurement program. The book differs from others on the market by focusing on the application of the metrics rather than the metrics themselves. The author's provide information based on actual experience with successful metrics programs. Each chapter includes a case study focusing on technology transfer and a set of recommended references. The book serves as a guide on the use and application of software metrics in industrial environments. It is specially designed for managers, product supervisors, and quality assurance personnel who want to know how to implement a metrics program.
