Book excerpt: 'At the age of six I began to fear for the future. ... By the age of nine I was on the run for my life. ... By the time I was ten I had seen all there was to see.' An accessible and honest account of the Holocaust that reminds us of the dangers of racism and intolerance, providing lessons that are relevant today. A true story of heroism during this painful horrific time in history. Tomi Reichental grew up in a small village, with friendly neighbours and a big, happy family. But things began to change, and Tomi was told he couldn't play with some of the local children any more. Then the police started to take away friends and family. Life changed completely when he was sent a thousand kilometres away, with all the other local Jews, to the terrifying Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The Nazis killed millions of people, simply because of their race or religion. Tomi tells his story so that such a horrific thing won't happen again.

  • Author : Tom Zarzaca
  • Publisher : BookLogix

Download or read book Tomi s Time written by Tom Zarzaca and published by BookLogix. This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tomi's Time chronicles the unthinkable happening to a baby after he contracted bacterial meningitis at nine months of age--and then survived the advanced states of this devastating brain infection. Such an outcome for our previously healthy son was as remote to us as any star in space. We were new parents; the previous nine months saw nothing but pure delight, and we had no real perspective on just how utterly a life can change. But in a period of time that's often measured in hours, Tomi went from typically sick--to seizure--to severely brain damaged, in a wave of strokes that would define the rest of his life. These events left Tomi in silence and darkness, disoriented and uncoordinated in the space around him, lost in the space within, seizing without control, and with a global development delay that has permanently returned our newborn baby to us. This, however, is neither the end of the story nor the sum of all things--even though it hasn't felt this way, at times. This is the point where Tomi's end met new life and where recovery began for all of us. This is a way in which healing and recovery of one means the same for others, and this is why "perspective" for us (and arguably everyone else) is everything. So in these ways, what just happened to us is only the beginning.

(Yep, she’s that good).” —Entertainment Weekly After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too. Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath. With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart. Book Differences between Liberal and Conservative Feminists Tomi Lahren As a Young Voice for Conservative Feminists

Download or read book Differences between Liberal and Conservative Feminists Tomi Lahren As a Young Voice for Conservative Feminists written by Katharina Gerhardt and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-09-21 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2018 in the subject American Studies - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, course: Advanced Academic Writing II, language: English, abstract: This paper explores the differences between liberal feminists and those women who do not feel represented by today’s liberal feminist ideas, but rather claim a different, conservative view on what empowers women. The fact that there are more and more younger women who feel this way is also evident in the growing outrage media sector. Thus, in order to examine these differences, the paper looks at one example of outrage media: “Tomi’s Final Thoughts.” Tomi Lahren is clearly a representative of a different, conservative, and anti-liberal feminist worldview. Through her use of outrage methods such as mockery, emotional language, and belittling, she deliberately vilifies and attacks liberal feminism, and, thus, promotes a conservative feminism. This paper shows that Lahren and other conservative women believe liberal feminists cast women as victims and demand special treatment. On top of that, conservative feminists see liberal feminists as man-hating or even show a fear of changing traditional gender roles or family values, all of which leads them to feel misrepresented by liberal feminism and its supposed claim to speak and fight for all women’s interests. Although both sides have the goal of empowering women, they mainly attack and denounce each other.

Book Never Play Dead

Download or read book Never Play Dead written by Tomi Lahren and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop thinking about who you might offend and start thinking about who you might inspire. Fans are always asking Tomi Lahren where she gained the confidence and candor that have made her who she is: a celebrated free-speech advocate, a conservative media star, and one of the most controversial pundits in America. In Never Play Dead, Tomi cheers on anyone, especially other young women willing to speak their minds. She takes readers on a tour of the internet trolls, political correctness police, campus activists, and condescending elites who never pass up a chance to quash honest debate. And she skewers the self-esteem movement that ironically discourages people from speaking up for themselves. She tells the story of how she worked her way out of South Dakota to television fame in LA, surviving social isolation, a truly terrible boyfriend, and awful workplaces. Along the way, she was tempted to follow everyone’s advice to keep quiet and bide her time, but she never did. This comes at a cost. Any time Tomi posts a video or sends out a tweet, it makes headlines. A video of a stranger throwing a glass of ice water at her and her parents went viral, and the president tweeted about it. She was fired at The Blaze because she wouldn’t toe the party line. However, it’s fine to lose followers as long as you never lose yourself. Whether you’ve been told you’re not good enough by parents, lovers, frenemies, bad bosses, or social media, it’s time to take Lahren’s advice and fight back. Free speech isn’t just saying what you want; it’s hearing what you don’t want to hear. Never Play Dead teaches you to shed your fear, find your inner strength, speak the truth, and never let the haters get you down.
