As an integral part of the Review, this volume brings together thirteen studies of different dimensions of tax design, plus associated commentaries. These were commissioned from IFS researchers and other international experts, to be of interest and value in their own right, as well as to provide inspiration for the final report of the Review, which is published as a separate volume, Tax by Design. Book Corporate shareholder Income Taxation and Allocating Taxing Rights Between Countries

Download or read book Corporate shareholder Income Taxation and Allocating Taxing Rights Between Countries written by Peter Andrew Harris and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking book from the IBFD proposes a fundamental change to the norms for the allocation of taxing rights among countries. The author uses an in-depth study of imputation systems to expose the flaws in the current international order, arguing that it is theoretically unsound. He then develops an alternative that would resolve many of the problems presented by international tax law today. Imputation systems are founded on a philosophy that corporations are not appropriate subjects of income taxation, other than as vehicles for the collection of tax, & they accordingly seek to alleviate economic double taxation. In practice they do not achieve this aim. In a domestic context, considered in the first four chapters, their inconsistencies & inaccuracies obscure the more fundamental flaws of the income taxation systems of which they form a part. In an international context, considered in the second four chapters, the difficulties associated with imputation systems highlight the deficiencies in current norms for the allocation of taxing rights among countries. The author examines those norms & finds them an inadequate basis for the international order. The alternatives he proposes would place the international taxing order on a firm theoretical footing & could be applied to any type of corporate tax system. If adopted, his proposals would obviate the need for much current international tax law. Treaties, measures for the avoidance of double taxation & many anti-avoidance measures would become superfluous. This extremely important book, based on prize-winning doctoral research, is destined to become a classic in the field. The acute perception & explication of theories underpinning international taxation make it essential reading.

Book Revenue Law

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Tiley
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2012-10-11
  • ISBN : 1782250050
  • Pages : 821 pages

Download or read book Revenue Law written by John Tiley and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-10-11 with total page 821 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 7th Edition of John Tiley's major text on revenue law, now massively restructured to focus upon the UK Tax system, Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and Inheritance Tax. What were previously sections dealing with Corporation Tax, International and European Tax, Savings and Charities have been spun-off to an entirely new book entitled Advanced Topics in Revenue Law. While this narrowing of the scope of Revenue Law means that it focuses on the most important UK taxes, its reduced size also makes it a more manageable and portable volume for law students and practitioners. As with previous editions, the text has been revised to incorporate changes wrought by new enactments in the past four years. This, however, remains the only book on tax law which continues to explain the new law found in ITEPA, ITTOIA and ITA in light of its legislative predecessors, with references to the former enactments still remaining where relevant. Those familiar with the old law of income tax but wanting to find their way round the new will find this work particularly valuable. The book is designed for law students taking the subject in the final year of their law degree course or for more advanced courses and is intended to be of interest to all who enjoy tax law. Its purpose is not only to provide an account of the rules but to include citation of the relevant literature from legal periodicals and some discussion of, or reference to, the background material in terms of policy, history or other countries' tax systems.

Book The Political Economy of Corporation Tax

Download or read book The Political Economy of Corporation Tax written by John Snape and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-09 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excellent technical writing on corporation tax abounds, but it tends to be inaccessible to public lawyers, political theorists and political economists. Although recent years have seen not only an explosion in public law scholarship but also a reawakening of interest in interpretative political theory and political economy, the potential of these perspectives to illuminate the corporation tax debate has remained unexplored. In this important work, John Snape seeks to reconcile these disparate strands of scholarship and to contribute to a new way of understanding and conceptualising the reform of the law relating to corporate taxation. Drawing on important developments in public law scholarship, the study combines elements of political theory and political economy. It advances a new interpretation of corporation tax law as an instrument of rule, through the maximisation of a nation's economic potential. Snape shows how corporate taxation belongs at the centre of any discussion of economic globalisation, not only because of the potential of national tax systems to influence inward investment decisions but also because of the potential of those decisions to shape the public interest that those tax systems might embody. Following public law and politics models, the book looks afresh at the impact of Britain's political institutions, of the processes of its representative government and of the theory that moulds and orders the values that the corporation tax code contains. This is a timely exploration of cutting-edge issues of public policy.

Book Blueprint 5

Download or read book Blueprint 5 written by Olof Johansson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidence has come to light regarding the impact of benzene emissions from road transport, the incidence of asthmatic attacks and the possible toll of particulate matter from diesel engines on human health. This book examines the issues and argues that, without a fundamental change in policy, it is inevitable that the transport sector will continue to impose increasing costs on the natural environment, human health and the economy. It also quantifies the external costs of road transport and suggests new measures, such as road pricing and financial incentives, to pave the way to a sustainable transport system.
