Download or read book Tojik Indian Yoga Secrets written by Sobirov and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book has got four parts. The first one is basically autobiographical with a view to bring home the readers how Abdul Vahab Sobirov, a Muslim by birth gets so much engrossed in a system he would hardly get any support from his tradition. But Sobirov takes the readers much farther to suggest that the present divide caused by known history will no way affect the imminent fundamental unity of mankind which must usher in a short while from now. Part Two imparts some of the important principles of Yoga teachings. Part Three is the India of Sobir s dream and aspiration. It also records Indias thick relationship with him. The Fourth part strongly urges that Yoga is now a Global Cult and it should undoubtedly unite all peoples on the earth to live in harmony and peace for ever. In the appendix part Sobirov has reproduced some valuable information about the values of food stuff we take and should be aware of in our daily food habit. Its editor and co-author PD Mishra evidently contributes substantially with a cross-border bond of unity (Yoga) by his intrinsic presence throughout.
Download or read book A Brief History of Physical Education in India New Edition written by Krishnaswamy Rajagopalan and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book of its kind on this subject and indeed a very praiseworthy attempt in writing a 'History of Physical Education' in our country. In this small volume Mr. Rajagopalan has covered vast stretches of the periods of Indian history and in presenting the material has tried to deal with the physical activities, sports, games, pastimes of the rulers, their military conquests as well as general education contemplated for the people. The food habits and general rules connected with health and sanitation are also referred to. The essential stress of Physical Education as a part of overall general education has been maintained all through. Set in the background of Indian culture, history and education, this book exemplifies the fact that Physical Education formed an integral part of Indian culture and civilization. Considerable study and hard work have gone into this small volume and I am sure it would stimulate some good thinking on the part of the students and teachers of Physical Education in this country. With its vast field of interest, it should be of appeal to lay readers too.

Download or read book Culture and Circulation written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Culture and Circulation reflects an innovative approach to early modern Indian literature. The authors foreground the complex hybridity of literary genres and social milieus, capturing elements that have eluded traditional literary history. In this book, jointly edited by Thomas de Bruijn and Allison Busch, Hindi authors rub shoulders with their Persian counterparts in the courts of Mughal India; the fame of Mirabai, a poetess from Rajasthan, travels to Punjab; the sayings of Kabir are found to be as difficult to pin down as the holy men who transmitted them. Drawing on new archives in several Indian languages, Culture and Circulation presents fresh ideas that will be of interest to scholars of Indian literature, religious studies, and early modern history. Contributors include Stefano Pellò,Thibaut d'Hubert,Corinne Lefèvre, John Stratton Hawley, Gurinder Singh Mann, Thomas de Bruijn, Catharina Kiehnle, Allison Busch, Francesca Orsini, Heidi Pauwels, Robert van de Walle.

Download or read book Russia s Protectorates in Central Asia written by Seymour Becker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-08-02 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the Russian conquest of the ancient Central Asian khanates of Bukhara and Khiva in the 1860s and 1870s, and the relationship between Russia and the territories until their extinction as political entities in 1924. It shows how Russia's approach developed from one of non-intervention, with the primary aim of preventing British expansion from India into the region, to one of increasing intervention as trade and Russian settlement grew. It goes on to discuss the role of Bukhara and Khiva in the First World War and the Russian Revolution, and how the region was fundamentally changed following the Bolshevik conquest in 1919-20. The book is a re-issue of a highly regarded classic originally published in 1968 and out of print for some years. The new version includes a new introduction, some corrections of errors, and a survey of new work undertaken since first publication.

Download or read book Islam after Communism written by Adeeb Khalid and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2014-02-08 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do Muslims relate to Islam in societies that experienced seventy years of Soviet rule? How did the utopian Bolshevik project of remaking the world by extirpating religion from it affect Central Asia? Adeeb Khalid combines insights from the study of both Islam and Soviet history to answer these questions. Arguing that the sustained Soviet assault on Islam destroyed patterns of Islamic learning and thoroughly de-Islamized public life, Khalid demonstrates that Islam became synonymous with tradition and was subordinated to powerful ethnonational identities that crystallized during the Soviet period. He shows how this legacy endures today and how, for the vast majority of the population, a return to Islam means the recovery of traditions destroyed under Communism. Islam after Communism reasons that the fear of a rampant radical Islam that dominates both Western thought and many of Central Asia’s governments should be tempered with an understanding of the politics of antiterrorism, which allows governments to justify their own authoritarian policies by casting all opposition as extremist. Placing the Central Asian experience in the broad comparative perspective of the history of modern Islam, Khalid argues against essentialist views of Islam and Muslims and provides a nuanced and well-informed discussion of the forces at work in this crucial region.

Download or read book The Modern Uzbeks written by Edward Allworth and published by Hoover Institution Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study of the modern Uzbeks, Professor Edward A. Allworth provides a comprehensive and authoritative survey of an important group of Muslim people who live within the boundaries of the Soviet Union. After the Russians and the Ukranians, the Uzbeks are the largest ethnic group in the Soviet Union and the strongest of a number of Muslim communities that populate the vast region of Central Asia. Although he concentrates especially on the imperial Russian and Soviet periods of history, the author also gives earlier periods of Uzbek history solid scholarly assessment. Meticulously analyzed are Uzbek relations with their foreign rulers, the Uzbek response to Russification and modernization, and the ethnic and religious issues in Uzbek society. Also included is a critique of Soviet historiography and the underlying philosophical and ideological commitments that have shaped the study of history in the Soviet Union. Invaluable to scholars is the survey and assessment of Uzbek documents in Turkish, European, and American depositories.
