Their sudden invasion left the world in shatters, and now, decades later, all that's left of human civilization are a few nomadic bands struggling to survive off the land. Askari was born to this world, and lives, fights, and survives alongside the community that raised her. But when she breaks one too many of the community's rules, her punishment is severe: leave. Armed with her bow and blade, Askari sets off alone, guided only by a map and the promise that if she can find a book hidden in a nearby town, then she can return. But what can one person do alone in such a harsh, violent landscape? How will she survive? Askari faces a challenge that will force her to learn not only about the world she lives in, but question what she believes about herself.

Book The World of Tiers Volume One

Download or read book The World of Tiers Volume One written by Philip José Farmer and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first three adventures set in the amazing realm created by the Hugo Award–winning author of Riverworld and “an excellent science fiction writer” (Isaac Asimov). His past a mystery and his present unbearably mundane, Robert Wolff is simply trying to buy a new house in Arizona when he stumbles upon a secret doorway through space and time and enters the World of Tiers. Made up of ascending levels of jungles, plains, medieval cities, and, at the top, a Garden of Eden, and populated by fantastical creatures, from nymphs and centaurs to merpeople and strange amalgams nonexistent on Earth, it’s beyond anything Wolff could have imagined in his previous humdrum existence. And when his youth is restored in the bargain, it seems he’s truly found paradise. But there are dark forces in this new world, and Wolff is plunged into an epic quest up through the tiers, accompanied by Paul Janus Finnegan, another earthling, now known as Kickaha. Wolff’s journey to find Jadawin, the Lord of this world, will lead to answers about his own identity—and determine his fate. Wolff and Kickaha will face off against feuding Lords—who hold the power to control private worlds of their own design—and the depraved Bellers. Devices originally created in the biolabs of the Lords, the Bellers are now conscious entities waging war on the Lords and their “pocket universes.” As they infiltrate the bodies of creatures throughout the World of Tiers and hunt down the Earth-born, the survival of all the worlds hinges upon the battle between the strangers from Earth and enemies disguised as their allies. This omnibus contains the author’s preferred text, reprinted from the limited edition volumes published by Phantasia Press.

Book Morphology Molecules Evolution and Phylogeny in Polychaeta and Related Taxa

Download or read book Morphology Molecules Evolution and Phylogeny in Polychaeta and Related Taxa written by Universität Osnabrück and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, evidence has been accumulated which shows that some of the groups formerly regarded as independent "phyla" such as Pogonophora (now recognized as Siboglinidae), Echiura, Myzostomida and perhaps Sipuncula, are most probably nothing else than greatly modified Annelida. The extreme morphological diversity found especially in Polychaeta displays the plasticity of a simple segmented organisation that basically is nothing else but a serial repetition of identical units. Thus, annelids are highly important to our understanding of fundamental questions about morphological and adaptive diversity, as well as clarifying evolutionary changes and phylogenetic relationships. The book aims to summarize our knowledge on Polychaetes polychaetes and their allies and gives an overview of recent advances gained by studies that employed conventional and modern methods plus, increasingly and importantly, the use of molecular markers and computer-assisted kinship analyses. It also reflects the state of art in polychaete sciences and presents new questions and controversies. As such it will significantly influence the direction of research on Polychaeta and their related taxa.

Book Pursuing the Dream Bone

Book excerpt: Poetry. PURSUING THE DREAM BONE is a new collection of prose poetry from Morton Marcus. Reflecting on everything from the mundane to the sacred, Marcus explores issues of family, identity, loss, and the simple joys of everyday life. His style--by turns witty, poignant, and compassionate--remains fresh and accessible. More personal than his other prose poem books, PURSUING THE DREAM BONE continues Marcus's parable-like examination of the human condition in pieces that are alternately antic, whimsical, somber and elegiac. As Al Young has said about Morton Marcus's previous prose poems, "I couldn't get enough of this delectable stuff, and there is nothing like it anywhere."

She is ready to marry her savior and hero Rarailmuir. Who saved her heroically in her youth and became the champion who stole her heart and slain a dragon. All goes well aside from the amusements of those nearest to her. She was going to have her fantasy fulfilled never aware of the problems of her kingdom. Suddenly darkness covers the island kingdom of Yoranthium and a legend of epic proportions unfolds. As the sky, land, and waters become a battleground of the heavenly cosmos and the deep dark hellish abyss in the seas of the world of Ishormot. Time falls to the wayside as temporal incursions caused by technology, mages, magics, demon witches, and spirits, have erased and changed kingdoms overnight. Plans of demons and cosmic horrors unfold and lives are lost in terrible tragedy. The once admired and mighty tropical idyllic kingdom of Yoranthium falls. The last light and bastion a beacon of hope and peace. The last hope for refugees fleeing oppression and wars caused by the nightmare of a cruel and evil world. A world that has been corrupted and falling into darkness. All Hope is Lost as many lives are lost and this story has just begun. Yoranthium Book One: Lost Hope is only the beginning of the series and a fast paced novel. There are other titles in this slated twenty book series as it's not just a world it moves beyond just some kingdoms that are explored. Aspects like Heaven, the deep dark abyss, an epic conflict of Angels and Demons unfold and mystical creatures such as Dragons, Mechanations, Yagrallmagrunds, Riarcks, Archangels, Eight Demons and the One Evil, of their God to be born, Impundalu, Altered Faefolken, Faefolken of the Dawn, and the vulnerable Elfaefolken get explored. How nature has a plan to deal with corruption and heal not only the world of Ishormot but other worlds in the Cosmos. A cosmic tale that ponders ideas of fancy on the meaning of space exploration. Delving into the very nature of the soul and DNA. Touching upon modern political spectrum. Time falls to the wayside and the Past Future interacts via Incursions with the Future Past. This series explores a wide range of thoughts and ideas in philosophy, ethics, morals, theology, mythology, Gothic Horror, including the yucky stuff (Romance) and so much more. All carefully in guise as stories and simple tales of an ever expanding world that is astonishing. A soft yet ridged Magics system that is comparable to Technology and Science with of course mumbo jumbo Mystical powers and lore. As Love and Hart is at the core of the only real power our hero's have against overwhelming odds of survival. I the Author have spent a life time in research and development for this epic tale. Traveling the world, always reading and learning and had lived in Japan and getting parking tickets in Perth. Just to pursue my need to study the world and visit museums and historical sights around the globe. It's about time I write this incredible story of Fantasy based on reality. It reads Fiction but if you see beyond the words you will find a deeper meaning in a simple story. Yoranthium could be considered a world healing book of our time.
