Book Today I Am a Ma am

Download or read book Today I Am a Ma am written by Valerie Harper and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valerie Harper has a message for women of a certain age: "Work those laugh lines!" With the irreverence and wit that made her one of television's most beloved personalities, Harper (a.k.a. Rhoda Morgenstern) takes on those phony "fabulous at 50" books written by women whose skin is free of laugh lines and who wouldn't know a cellulite pocket if it bit them on the backside. With her trademark shoot-from-the-hip, call-'em-like-she-sees-'em style, she helps women celebrate, with humor and grace, what it means to be middle aged. Harper's essays explore the treacherous terrain women must travel -- from the tyrannies of fashion to the unmentionables of menopause. She tackles the most perplexing questions of the day: If you wear a size zero, do you exist? Would menopause be revered if it happened to men? Do calories count if you eat standing up? Are dressing rooms fitted with fun house mirrors? Today I Am a Ma'am is the perfect antidote to the youth obsession of our culture, offered by America's most reliable girlfriend. It is Humor Replacement Therapy for midlife women, a book you can pick up when ever you need a laugh or a reminder that midriff drift is not the end of the world.

I wish I had had a book like this when I was a kid struggling with gender identity questions. I found it deeply moving in its simplicity and honesty."—Laverne Cox (who plays Sophia in “Orange Is the New Black”) From the time she was two years old, Jazz knew that she had a girl's brain in a boy's body. She loved pink and dressing up as a mermaid and didn't feel like herself in boys' clothing. This confused her family, until they took her to a doctor who said that Jazz was transgender and that she was born that way. Jazz's story is based on her real-life experience and she tells it in a simple, clear way that will be appreciated by picture book readers, their parents, and teachers.

Download or read book Ma am written by Lue Wyatt and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06-15 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ma'am is a story of an older woman who has lived a life of hard labor. She was a woman that not only worked hard, she also loved as well. Raised in poverty, married young with children did the only thing she knew, worked. Later in life, due to curcumstances that has happened to so many women, adopted five grandchildren. Later she discovered to her dismay, that while caring for children, all her life (siblings, her own children, later her own grandchildren). She had forgotten about her own personal life, needs and desires. While trying to ignore it, becomes clinically depressed. Youth had slipped away, time had forgotten her. Once a beautiful red head, and now merely a shell of her former self. Looking into the bathroom mirror one morning, she discovers the answer. All through her busy life, she held all the emotions in that a woman experiences. She had never talked to anyone before, but now in the privacy of her home, she could pour out all the pain and frustrations, that she had felt for so many years. Talking to the reflection in the mirror, and eventually finds peace of mind. Ive tried to describe how a woman would react under this stressful circumstances in which she finds herself. In trying to deal with her own personal life and still be responsible for the care of five grandchildren. I have written of a woman who is strong, life made her that way. She also has feet of clay. Ive tried to portray her as being very human, because we all are. In Maams story, she deals with the problems of aging, but at the same time, she sees humor in everyday happenings, and has the ability to laugh at herself as well with other people. The adventures of a woman, and Maam, are at times hilarious, but also truthful, but again, it is all part of lifes story. In my story of Maam, the woman has no name because she speaks for umpteen thousands of women all over the world. She also believes in her God, but the older she gets, the more issues she has. Maam is truthful about her triumphs and her failings as in all our lives, there are many.

Motherhood is a challenge. Unfortunately, our worldly culture offers moms little in the way of real help. Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive. As a daughter of Christ, you have been called to be more than an average mama. Attaining excellence doesn’t have to be unsettling but it will take committed focus and a desire to parent well according to God’s grace and for His glory. M is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom. Mama, you are worthy of the awesome responsibility God has given you. Now it’s time to start believing you can live up to it.

Book Ma am Darling

Download or read book Ma am Darling written by Craig Brown and published by Fourth Estate. This book was released on 2018-06-18 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A GUARDIAN BOOK OF THE YEAR * A TIMES BOOK OF THE YEAR * A SUNDAY TIMES BOOK OF THE YEAR * A DAILY MAIL BOOK OF THE YEAR 'An original, memorable and substantial achievement' TLS'A masterpiece' Mail on Sunday'I honked so loudly the man sitting next to me dropped his sandwich' ObserverShe made John Lennon blush and Marlon Brando clam up. She cold-shouldered Princess Diana and humiliated Elizabeth Taylor. Andy Warhol photographed her. Jack Nicholson offered her cocaine. Gore Vidal revered her. John Fowles hoped to keep her as his sex-slave. Dudley Moore propositioned her. Francis Bacon heckled her. Peter Sellers was in love with her. For Pablo Picasso, she was the object of sexual fantasy. "If they knew what I had done in my dreams with your royal ladies" he confided to a friend, "they would take me to the Tower of London and chop off my head!" Princess Margaret aroused passion and indignation in equal measures. To her friends, she was witty and regal. To her enemies, she was rude and demanding. In her 1950's heyday, she was seen as one of the most glamorous and desirable women in the world. By the time of her death, she had come to personify disappointment. One friend said he had never known an unhappier woman. The tale of Princess Margaret is pantomime as tragedy, and tragedy as pantomime. It is Cinderella in reverse: hope dashed, happiness mislaid, life mishandled. Combining interviews, parodies, dreams, parallel lives, diaries, announcements, lists, catalogues and essays, Ma'am Darling is a kaleidoscopic experiment in biography, and a witty meditation on fame and art, snobbery and deference, bohemia and high society. 'Brown has been our best parodist and satirist for decades now ... Ma'am Darling is, as you would expect, very funny; also, full of quirky facts and genial footnotes. Brown has managed to ingest huge numbers of royal books and documents without losing either his judgment or his sanity. He adores the spectacle of human vanity' Julian Barnes, Guardian

There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I told this true crime story in Kanupriya's words, I would have spent my entire life writing it without being able to complete it. Some stories are never completed. Kanupriya has forgotten her hunger and dignity. How did house no. 627 turned her into Babu Ma’am? A lot has been left in this crime fiction book, but I have tried to cover a lot. In exactly the same way as Kanupriya still asks Ganga Maa at the Ganga ghat today, what was her fault? Along with her tears, the waves of the Ganges rise and fall and a musical voice is heard, "Kanupriya come in my water and drain everything." Kanupriya descends into the water and drains all those names with filling water in both hands; Both souls and bodies will dance in these waves of Ganga, Expansion as well as summary of life lies here, Karma and fate both are dancing together, Still the mind is in the bond of the ramparts. She bubbles these lines and then bends in water to say something to Ganga. Sitting in wet clothes on the ghat, she watches the waves of the Ganga fall and rise with wet eyes and this sequence of Kanupriya continues even today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years the author has, like most computer users, been receiving spam emails that he used to bin straight away - until one of the more outrageous ones caught his eye. Then he began to read them more carefully and, over the course of six years, selected outstanding examples of 'scam' literature. The author was especially attracted by the inventiveness of the senders, their very particular use of the English language, and the variety of the scams on offer. This ebook scrupulously presents those emails as they were received in terms of layout, vocabulary, and spelling. The author's only intervention has been to rearrange them in eight thematic chapters and for obvious reasons, to disable their various 'links'.Having worked on this project for years, the author discovered that a fair amount of people actually had taken the bait and been duped by these mails. Needless to say, the author did not send the replies that you are about to read. They have been added to serve as a light-hearted warning against tricksters, fraudsters, swindlers, et al, who seek to extract often significant sums of money from the unwary.
