"The gospel of Jesus Christ" therefore means "the gospel about Jesus Christ" and refers to a proclaimed message ("the voice of one crying out"), not a book (though because books like Mark's contain that proclaimed message, the term came to refer to those books in the capitalized form of "Gospels" to distinguish them from the message, kept uncapitalized as "gospel").

It is estimated that:• 600 million humans believe in the practice of speaking in tongues. • As of April 2006, 500 million humans practice speaking in tongues. • The number of those speaking in tongues has increased 168 million since 1988. • Denominations that promote speaking in tongues add 20 million converts to their pews each year.• 100 million Catholics identify with the Charismatic movement and speaking tongues. • If these statistics are true and continue. By 2025 there could be over 1.14 billion believers who practice speaking in tongues.

It begins by looking at two basic forms of delay in the development of psychic language: concrete language, which is based on flattening, and pseudo-language, which is rooted in concealment. The next chapter focuses on the split between voice and meaning which marks psychotic syntax, and the latter's double function in defending the self against an unconscious death wish. The subject of the third chapter is the chameleon language of perversion, and the relationship between the perverse structure and the primal scene. The fifth chapter discusses the absent function of the inner witness in traumatic language.
