Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described as Newfoundland's answer to Frank McCourt, M.T. Dohaney's To Scatter Stones is available once again. Long out of print, the highly anticipated To Scatter Stones was first published in 1992, the second novel in Dohaney's celebrated Corrigan Women trilogy. In this novel, Tess Corrigan, newly divorced, has moved from Montreal to St. John's as manager of a travel agency. On a visit to her birthplace, a tiny outport called the Cove, she agrees to stand as the Liberal candidate in the forthcoming provincial election. Little by little, she becomes wrapped up in the lives of her childhood friends and neighbours. But the return to her roots is also difficult. The last of the Corrigan women, Tess is the daughter of Carmel and an American soldier, who turns out to be a bigamist. In addition to the uncomfortable echoes from her past, Tess's politics stir up conflict in the traditionally Tory village. Not only does she face discouraging odds and hard ethical choices, but she is the first "petticoat candidate" ever to run for office in the Cove. On top of these external crises, Tess must deal with her own conflicting emotions and the love of youth, Dennis Walsh, now a priest, who reappears in the Cove. To Scatter Stones spans from the 1960s into the 1990s, marking not only the life changes of the last of the Corrigan women, but the radical changes as Newfoundland moved from paternalism and an economy based on the fishery to a more equitable political ideal. With wit and insight, M.T. Dohaney carries the story of the Corrigan women into the final decades of the 20th century.

Book excerpt: More than 40 years after his debut and nearly a decade since his last appearance, one of the most renowned characters in all of crime fiction is back on the case. Well past retirement age and feeling his years-but still staying sober one day at a time-Matthew Scudder learns that alcoholics aren't the only ones who count the days since their last slip. Matt's longtime partner, Elaine, tells him of a group of former sex workers who do something similar, helping each other stay out of the life. But when one young woman describes an abusive client who's refusing to let her quit, Elaine encourages her to get help of a different sort. The sort only Scudder can deliver. A Time to Scatter Stones offers not just a gripping crime story but also a richly drawn portrait of Block's most famous character as he grapples with his own mortality while proving to the younger generation that he's still got what it takes. For Scudder's millions of fans around the world (including the many who met the character through Liam Neeson's portrayal in the film version of A Walk Among the Tombstones), A Time to Scatter Stones is an unexpected gift-a valedictory appearance that will remind readers why Scudder is simply the best there is.

Book The Power of Universal Laws A Parent Teacher Guide to Raising Empowered Children in Four Stages

Download or read book The Power of Universal Laws A Parent Teacher Guide to Raising Empowered Children in Four Stages written by Mona Kishnani Johnson and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2023-11-19 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each child is a miracle and deserves the best. Yet, in today’s tumultuous world, children are surrounded and programmed by the rhetoric of chaos, fear, separation-consciousness, increased violence, emotional and mental trauma, and escapism through increased illicit drug use. As parents, educators, and caregivers, we have the choice of raising empowered children who face life's challenges and adversities with grace and ability and who co-create the reality they desire while living their purpose and peace every day or raising children who feel helpless, confused, lost, suffer low self-esteem, and become victims of their circumstances. The Power of Universal Laws: A Parent/Teacher Guide to Raising Empowered Children in Four Stages guides readers through these four powerful stages: Stage 1 examines the awareness of the comfort zone in confronting fears and limiting beliefs. Stage 2 explores extending the comfort zone. Stage 3 discusses learning and growing through introspection. Stage 4 looks at transformation through living an authentic, empowered life and co-creating the desired reality with least effort. The best gift we can offer our children is to sow the seeds of empowerment by modeling and teaching them the timeless power and wisdom of the universal laws, supporting each stage when they are young, and enabling them to tap into their innate divine power, their truth, and capacity to be deliberate co-creators of their lives, unapologetically shining their light.
