Download or read book Pondering in Wonder written by Barbara Joan Cooke Brocksieck and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my favorite words in the Bible is "ponder." I love the fact that Mary "treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart" (Luke 2:19). The Psalmist also pondered and calls us to ponder (Psalm 64:9, 111:2, 119:95). Ponder means to think about something deliberately, carefully, to engage in contemplation. That pretty much defines how I come to God's Word and how I think about life. I ponder. Then one year at Christmas I realized that pondering often led me to wonder, sometimes questioning (I wonder how or why), sometimes in astonishment or amazement, with curiosity, or surprise (the Wow factor). Thus, the title of this book. So much of life, so much of God, so much of God's Word has led me to ponder, to wonder in all the definitions of that word. May these thoughts from my ponderings lead you to Ponder in Wonder.

Book Simple Thoughts to Ponder On

Download or read book Simple Thoughts to Ponder On written by Fortunet L. Wilson and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering an amazing variety of themes, taken from life and society itself, Fortunet L. Wilson leads the reader through episodes, thoughts, facts, like a roller coaster ride - not in the intension of creating drama, butto make the reader question things to wake him or her up, make him or her aware of all what is going on, to make him or her dare to try new paths, dare to stand up, say no or yes, but at least with some better knowledge. This book jumps straight into taboos and provocative statements, it contents some slaps into faces of both, male and female, but behind all is the love for life, the respect for men, women, our children, equality of genders and all human beings and the will to create a better future for our kids. The author's message is clear: "You have the power to change the world. You should stop sitting by and just letting it all crumble from beneath your feet." His chapters may contain plenty of thoughts which may upset or even shock a reader, but to end with Mr. Wilson's words: "Get mad, get happy, but most of all get smart."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Born to Wonder, Alister McGrath, a prolific Oxford scholar, scientist, and theologian, explores the deepest mystery at the heart of life itself. Life is a gift. We never asked to be born. Yet here we are, living in this strange world of space and time, trying to work out what it’s all about before the darkness closes in and extinguishes us. We are adrift on a misty, grey sea of ignorance, seeking a sun-kissed island of certainty, on which we might hope to find clear answers to our deepest and most poignant questions. What is the point of life? Why are we here? And what is it about us that makes us want to ask these questions? As far as we know, we’re the only species on earth that asks these questions, and dares to hope that we might find an answer. It seems that we are born to wonder, not merely to exist. From time to time, all of us find ourselves overwhelmed by a sense of awe or mystery, often when confronted with the beauty of nature, whether it is a mountain stream or the vast expanse of ocean waters. That is when we see a flicker of a grander vision of reality, perhaps lying beyond the horizons of our experience. It is as if, for only a moment, a veil is removed, and we catch a half-glimpsed sight of a promised land, waiting to be mapped and explored. This sense of wonder fuels much of humanity’s creativity and its search for understanding.

Book Play On

Download or read book Play On written by Mick Fleetwood and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "After forty-six years of being on the road, this is the right time to look back in a way I've never done before: now and then. This is the story of my life in rock and roll -- and how the band that has meant everything to me came to define me. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you." Mick Fleetwood has been a member of the ever-evolving Fleetwood Mac, one of the world's most successful and adored bands, for over four decades. Here he tells the full and candid story of his life as one of music's greatest drummers and bandleaders, the cofounder of the deeply loved supergroup that bears his name and that of his bandmate and lifelong friend John McVie. In this intimate portrait of a life lived in music, Fleetwood vividly recalls his upbringing tapping along to every song playing on the radio, his experiences as a musician in '60s London, and the earliest permutation of the band featuring Peter Green. Play On sheds new light on Fleetwood Mac's raucous history, describing the highs and lows of being in the band that Fleetwood was determined to keep together. Here he reflects on the creation of landmark albums such as Rumours and Tusk, the great loves of his life, and the many incredible and outrageous moments of recording, touring, and living with Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood describes these moments with honesty and immediacy, taking us to the very heart of this multilayered journey that has always been anchored in music. Through it all, from intense love to plaintive heartaches, from collaborations to confrontations, it's been the drive to play on that has prevailed. Now, then, and always, it's Fleetwood Mac.

Book One Long River of Song

Download or read book One Long River of Song written by Brian Doyle and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a "born storyteller" (Seattle Times), this playful and moving bestselling book of essays invites us into the miraculous and transcendent moments of everyday life. When Brian Doyle passed away at the age of sixty after a bout with brain cancer, he left behind a cult-like following of devoted readers who regard his writing as one of the best-kept secrets of the twenty-first century. Doyle writes with a delightful sense of wonder about the sanctity of everyday things, and about love and connection in all their forms: spiritual love, brotherly love, romantic love, and even the love of a nine-foot sturgeon. At a moment when the world can sometimes feel darker than ever, Doyle's writing, which constantly evokes the humor and even bliss that life affords, is a balm. His essays manage to find, again and again, exquisite beauty in the quotidian, whether it's the awe of a child the first time she hears a river, or a husband's whiskers that a grieving widow misses seeing in her sink every morning. Through Doyle's eyes, nothing is dull. David James Duncan sums up Doyle's sensibilities best in his introduction to the collection: "Brian Doyle lived the pleasure of bearing daily witness to quiet glories hidden in people, places and creatures of little or no size, renown, or commercial value, and he brought inimitably playful or soaring or aching or heartfelt language to his tellings." A life's work, One Long River of Song invites readers to experience joy and wonder in ordinary moments that become, under Doyle's rapturous and exuberant gaze, extraordinary.

Book A Place for Wonder

    Book Details:
  • Author : Georgia Heard
  • Publisher : Stenhouse Publishers
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 1571104321
  • Pages : 191 pages

Download or read book A Place for Wonder written by Georgia Heard and published by Stenhouse Publishers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Place for Wonder, Georgia Heard and Jennifer McDonough discuss how to create "a landscape of wonder," a primary classroom where curiosity, creativity, and exploration are encouraged. For it is these characteristics, the authors write, that develop intelligent, inquiring, life-long learners. The authors' research shows that many primary grade state standards encourage teaching for understanding, critical thinking, creativity, and question asking, and promote the development of children who have the attributes of inventiveness, curiosity, engagement, imagination, and creativity. With these goals in mind, Georgia and Jennifer provide teachers with numerous, practical ways--setting up "wonder centers," gathering data though senses, teaching nonfiction craft--they can create a classroom environment where student's questions and observations are part of daily work. They also present a step-by-step guide to planning a nonfiction reading and writing unit of study--creating a nonfiction book, which includes creating a table of contents, writing focused chapters, using "wow" words, and developing point of view. A Place for Wonder will help teachers reclaim their classrooms as a place where true learning is the norm.
