What’s a fabulous New York City girl supposed to do when she finds herself fantasizing about the Grim Reaper more than she fantasizes about her husband? When she can’t help but give him the finger on the set of Sesame Street? And when she doesn’t exactly hope for a safe landing when he goes away on business? No, ex-hedge fund manager and new mom Isolde Brilliant hasn’t got the seven year itch—taking care of her baby and husband and having a growing suspicion that she’s living life in captivity has turned her into a seven year bitch. That’s New York author Jennifer Belle’s deliciously provocative phrase for the boredom, anger, and hurt that can creep into even the best of marriages—and affect even the most saintly of wives. In the tradition of Jennifer Weiner and Meg Wolitzer, Belle delivers a dead-on, raw and hilarious novel about motherhood and marriage and discovering the life you have is exactly the one you wanted.

Book You Must be Dreaming

Download or read book You Must be Dreaming written by Barbara Noël and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 1992 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When Barbara Noel first went to Dr. Jules Masserman, he predicted she'd be cured of her performance anxiety within two years. But after six months, he injected her with a barbiturate to help her "overcome her resistance to the truth" of what was bothering her. He gave her that drug for the next eighteen years - until the harrowing day she awakened from a drugged sleep to find herself being raped by the man she trusted most." "This spellbinding, chilling story tells how a bright, articulate woman spent years under the sway of the cunning psychiatrist who used her for his sexual purposes. Step by riveting step, in a series of revelations about the secret lives of both doctor and patient, Barbara Noel relives her battle to understand herself and to bring Dr. Jules Masserman to justice for his sexual and ethical betrayals." "It wasn't an easy battle. Jules Masserman was considered "Psychiatry's Ambassador to the World." As past president of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, as well as chairman of psychiatry at Northwestern University Medical School, he seemed invincible." "But Barbara Noel wasn't alone. Jules Masserman had other accusers. Many of them. Nevertheless, Dr. Masserman still categorically denies any wrongdoing and has never been charged with a criminal offense or lost a civil suit, although his insurance company has settled out of court with several of his accusers. An exclusive interview with him is included in the Afterword of this book." "From its shocking beginning to its haunting conclusion, You Must Be Dreaming is a suspenseful journey into the psyche of a young woman who fell victim to the hidden, twisted heart of a brilliant and charming man. It is also an important and critical expose of one of medicine's darkest secrets - the rogue doctor who holds raw power over patients he considers little more than human guinea pigs."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Expert chapters discuss both stock and custom designs, their indications and contraindications, primary operative techniques, combined TMJ TJR and orthognathic surgical techniques, and the devices' adaption for use as segmental or total mandibular replacement devices after ablative surgery. Clinical outcomes and avoidance as well as management of complications are detailed. Numerous helpful illustrations and radiographs are presented to assist readers in understanding and carrying out the described procedures. Important evidence from both the orthopedic and TMJ TJR literature relating to material sensitivity and mechanical wear will be reported. Finally, the role bioengineered tissue may hold for the future of TMJ TJR will be discussed.

Download or read book Stress and Orality written by Francis Hartmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The reading of STRESS and ORALITY written by F. HARTMANN and G. CUCCHI led me to believe that we should consider the problem of certain migraines, neck pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue from a radically different angle than the historically traditional approach.” Pr Roger Guillemin (Nobel Laureate in Medicine) Are oral disorders only an issue for dentists? The answer is no. If your patients complain of pain and/or discomfort, if some are diagnosed as suffering from migraines, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, and if classical therapies have remained ineffective, this book could help in your daily practice. When it comes to the complex pathology called Temporo-Mandibular Disorders (TMD) most specialists favour a multidisciplinary approach and treatment of socio-psycho-emotional factors as well as dental, lingual or postural disorders. Yet little is known - from a clinical point of view - about a tricky oral spastic habit called severe teeth clenching. In view of the lack of clinical findings from classical investigations on the subject, it could be considered as the “hidden part of an oral parafunctional iceberg”. Neuroscience has been able to shed some light on the multiple connections between trigeminal and non-trigeminal nervous centres, which confirms the significant involvement of the stomatognathic system and trigeminal nerves (V) in both oral as well as non-oral major functions such as eating, breathing, speaking, hearing, and standing ... and also confirms the extensive participation of the paired Vs in the human adaptation process. Too many physicians are still reluctant to admit the pathological responsibilities of the Vs. Therefore their role remains largely underestimated by clinicians. Stress conditions in introverted people cause a parafunctional habit (i.e. severe clenching), which in turn produces trigeminal overstimulation and nociception. Through a process of sensitization this can perturb some non-trigeminal nervous areas, such as the vestibular nuclei and cerebellum (involved in equilibrium). Would you then be willing to accept the possibility that a stressed and introverted patient who clenches hard, durably or frequently may end up suffering from dizziness? If not, this book is not for you. But if you accept the scientific data and clinical facts this book will offer a concrete therapeutic protocol: the Relaxing and Moderating Treatment (RMT), which can greatly help you to familiarize yourself with and neutralize this little known deleterious spastic oral parafunction and its many disconcerting pain-causing and dysfunctional clinical effects. Prepare to be amazed by the results, just as we were!

Book Probably Someday Cancer

Download or read book Probably Someday Cancer written by Kim Horner and published by Mayborn Literary Nonfiction. This book was released on 2019 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After learning that she inherited a BRCA2 genetic mutation that put her at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer, Kim Horner's doctors urged her to consider having a double mastectomy. But how do you decide whether to have a surgery to remove your breasts to reduce your risk for a disease you don't have and may never get? Horner shares her struggle to answer that question in Probably Someday Cancer. The mother of a one-year-old boy, she wanted to do whatever would give her the best odds of being around for her son and protect her from breast cancer, which killed her grandmother and great-grandmother in their 40s. Which would give her the best chance at a long healthy life: a double mastectomy or frequent screenings to try to catch any cancer early? The answers weren't that simple. Based on extensive research, interviews, and personal experience, Horner writes about how and why she ultimately opted for a double mastectomy--the same decision actress Angelina Jolie made for a similar genetic mutation--and the surprising diagnosis that followed. The book explores difficult truths that get overshadowed by upbeat messages about early detection and survivorship--the fact that screenings can miss cancers and that even early-stage breast cancers can spread and become fatal. Probably Someday Cancer is about the author's efforts to push past her fear and anxiety. This book can help anyone facing hereditary risk of breast and ovarian cancer feel less alone and make informed decisions to protect their health and end the devastation that hereditary cancer has caused for generations in so many families. Number Nine: Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Series
