Book Titanium Dioxide Photocatalyst Deactivation by Gas phase Oxidation of Polymethylsiloxane PDMS and Silicone Sealant Off gas in a Recirculating Batch Reactor

Download or read book Titanium Dioxide Photocatalyst Deactivation by Gas phase Oxidation of Polymethylsiloxane PDMS and Silicone Sealant Off gas in a Recirculating Batch Reactor written by Maurice K. Chemweno and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indoor air quality is one of the most promising applications of photocatalytic oxidation. Rapid deactivation of the photocatalyst by ubiquitous indoor air pollutants would diminish the utility of photocatalytic technology. We have studied deactivation of TiO 2 photocatalyst by oxidation of PolyDiMethylSiloxane (PDMS) and silicone sealant off-gas in a recirculating batch reactor. The oxidation of the Si-containing vapor was monitored with an FTIR equipped with a gas cell. Subsequent to each incremental exposure, a hexane oxidation reaction was performed to track the TiO 2 catalyst activity. In this manner, loss of catalyst activity was quantitatively related to oxidation of Si-containing organic molecules. The exposures were repeated until a substantial deactivation was achieved. Surface science techniques were used to view the topography of the catalyst and to identify the elements causing the deactivation.

Book Gas Phase Oxidation of Dimethyl Sulfide by Titanium Dioxide Based Catalysts

Download or read book Gas Phase Oxidation of Dimethyl Sulfide by Titanium Dioxide Based Catalysts written by Sachin Kumar and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, a low temperature catalytic oxidation process was investigated for the oxidation of dimethyl sulfide using titania-based catalysts. TiO2 catalysts doped with vanadia were made using a wet incipient method and a flame synthesis method. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, Raman spectroscopy and BET surface area analysis to study the TiO2 phase transition as functions of calcination temperature and V/Ti mass ratio. A flow reactor was used to investigate the performance of the catalysts, and the exit gases were analyzed using gas chromatography. It was found that low concentrations of vanadia (V/Ti mass ratio [less than or equal to] 2%) inhibited phase transformation and sintering, which resulted in more activity per unit mass of the catalysts, and the catalysts having a V/Ti mass ratio of 2% were able to degrade dimethyl sulfide most efficiently.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook describes several current trends in the development of bioceramics and biocomposites for clinical use in the repair, remodelling, and regeneration of bone tissue. Comprehensive coverage of these materials allows fundamental aspects of the science and engineering to be seen in close relation to the clinical performance of dental and orthopaedic implants. Bioceramics and biocomposites appear to be the most dynamic area of materials development for both tissue engineering and implantable medical devices. Almost all medical specialties will continue to benefit from these developments, but especially dentistry and orthopaedics. In this Handbook, leading researchers describe the use of bionanomaterials to create new functionalities when interfaced with biological molecules or structures. Also described are technologies for bioceramics and biocomposites processing in order to fabricate medical devices for clinical use. Another important section of the book is dedicated to tissue regeneration with development of new matrices. A targeted or personalized treatment device reduces drug consumption and treatment expenses, resulting in benefits to the patient and cost reductions for public health systems. This authoritative reference on the state-of-the-art in the development and use of bioceramics and biocomposites can also serve as the basis of instructional course lectures for audiences ranging from advanced undergraduate students to post-graduates in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering.

Book Membranes for Membrane Reactors

Download or read book Membranes for Membrane Reactors written by Angelo Basile and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-12-20 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A membrane reactor is a device for simultaneously performing a reaction and a membrane-based separation in the same physical device. Therefore, the membrane not only plays the role of a separator, but also takes place in the reaction itself. This text covers, in detail, the preparation and characterisation of all types of membranes used in membranes reactors. Each membrane synthesis process used by membranologists is explained by well known scientists in their specific research field. The book opens with an exhaustive review and introduction to membrane reactors, introducing the recent advances in this field. The following chapters concern the preparation of both organic and inorganic, and in both cases, a deep analysis of all the techniques used to prepare membrane are presented and discussed. A brief historical introduction for each technique is also included, followed by a complete description of the technique as well as the main results presented in the international specialized literature. In order to give to the reader a summary look to the overall work, a conclusive chapter is included for collecting all the information presented in the previous chapters. Key features: Fills a gap in the market for a scientific book describing the preparation and characterization of all the kind of membranes used in membrane reactors Discusses an important topic - there is increasing emphasis on membranes in general, due to their use as energy efficient separation tools and the ‘green’ chemistry opportunities they offer Includes a review about membrane reactors, several chapters concerning the preparation organic, inorganic, dense, porous, and composite membranes and a conclusion with a comparison among the different membrane preparation techniques
