Download or read book Go Away Bully written by Genice James-Carde and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of bullying has become a terrible social issue that transcends race, age, culture, religion etc. If you believe or understand the phrase "violence breeds violence" then you will understand the purpose of this story and have an answer for the person who is tired of being picked on, who feel that the solution is to "join the crowd" (retaliate). Starting their own war or joining another one will only make the problem worse. It is believed that we all have bully tendencies, some greater than others. Many times the hardest thing in life is to feel like you can't do anything about it. God tells us to trust him because vengeance (retaliation) is you're your retaliation will not compare to what God will do to the person when someone is harassing his children. His actions will be permanent and you won't have to be in jail for it. According to MBNBD (Make Beats Not Beat Downs) Facts and Statistics, in 2009 reported that, "90% of 4th through 8th graders say they are victims of bullying. And revenge is the strongest motivation for school shootings." The purpose of this story is to help children to understand the best way to decrease bullying, is not to become one. Children should be told to keep reporting this problem to appropriate authorities until something is done. Silence empowers the bully. In the story the characters do not believe they are bullies. They make excuses for their behaviors and think it's okay. At the end of the story they recognize they are the bullies and decide they want to change their ways. The words rhyme to ease the hurt on a painful subject.

Book excerpt: Within the boundaries of our own backyards, we encounter and interact with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. When in school, at work or any public place, we expect a common level of social behavior. We don't expect everyone we meet to be nice, but when we meet someone that is mean we feel different after the exchange. We conjure images of what a bully looks like based on real experiences or images from media. Perhaps that image is of a rough, shabby frowning person. When we encounter a bully that does not look like our image, we are surprised. Why are we surprised that a bully can look like anyone? Like you and me. A bully can come from anywhere, such as your own backyard or school. At times, we can be bullied and sometimes we can be the bully. This story is true. It is the retelling of an actual event that occurred in high school, as witnessed and described by my son, Nicholas A. Baker. I wish for every child to grow up in a nurturing environment free of bullying.Bullying transcends generations, crosses societal boundaries and infringes on our developmental process. My hope is that one day all people understand that kindness is a gift that we give to others in the present.

Book Preventing Bullying Through Science Policy and Practice

Download or read book Preventing Bullying Through Science Policy and Practice written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents. There is an implication that individuals who are bullied must have "asked for" this type of treatment, or deserved it. Sometimes, even the child who is bullied begins to internalize this idea. For many years, there has been a general acceptance and collective shrug when it comes to a child or adolescent with greater social capital or power pushing around a child perceived as subordinate. But bullying is not developmentally appropriate; it should not be considered a normal part of the typical social grouping that occurs throughout a child's life. Although bullying behavior endures through generations, the milieu is changing. Historically, bulling has occurred at school, the physical setting in which most of childhood is centered and the primary source for peer group formation. In recent years, however, the physical setting is not the only place bullying is occurring. Technology allows for an entirely new type of digital electronic aggression, cyberbullying, which takes place through chat rooms, instant messaging, social media, and other forms of digital electronic communication. Composition of peer groups, shifting demographics, changing societal norms, and modern technology are contextual factors that must be considered to understand and effectively react to bullying in the United States. Youth are embedded in multiple contexts and each of these contexts interacts with individual characteristics of youth in ways that either exacerbate or attenuate the association between these individual characteristics and bullying perpetration or victimization. Recognizing that bullying behavior is a major public health problem that demands the concerted and coordinated time and attention of parents, educators and school administrators, health care providers, policy makers, families, and others concerned with the care of children, this report evaluates the state of the science on biological and psychosocial consequences of peer victimization and the risk and protective factors that either increase or decrease peer victimization behavior and consequences.

It covers exactly what we can do to rise above the experience of feeling pushed down. Society often forgets that the effects of bullying does not end once the school day ends or you put on your high school cap and gown, and have a diploma in your hand. For many people, their personalities and life tracks are shaped by what happened to them in school. Regardless if you are a tween, in your mid-twenties, a seasoned professional with school-age kids of your own, or still in school, you can benefit from this book. Christina Catalano, a survivor of bullying by the hands of classmates that occurred from the first day of kindergarten to the last of high school, walks readers through how to use your experiences being bullied for positivity rather than negativity. She breaks down the book to make it easy to read and follow along with, and details steps to take to make changes in your life - today! How do you or someone you know rise above bullying? Catalano teaches you how to use your natural talents and your experiences to become your own game changer. Here's What You Will Learn Inside This Guide: Chapter 1: This is Our Story How my story started and the way it has impacted me; I will be tying in the concept of why my story matters and inspiring you, the reader, to look into why your story matters. I then provide exercises that help you rise above these cruel school years. Chapter 5: Writing Your Own Office Memo Similar to school bullying, I have you, the reader, explore with me the "water cooler impact" and its unique effect on how people work, and provide exercises to inspire you to take charge of your work life. Chapter 6: Rising Above Family and Relationship Traumas Relationship bullying can be an even more "personal" type of bullying. I help you see how this sensitive issue requires a special kind of care when rising out of your comfort zone, and away from trauma. Chapter 7: Bullying in Countless Forms - It is Not Black and White Describes the many forms of bullying that have occurred with others, and demonstrates how your story can be influenced by what you have learned herein. Chapter 8: The Power of Positivity Spotlights the power of positivity and a "game changer" mindset to bring about change with bullying experiences; shows how the power of change can be for life and not for just the one experience of being bullied. Final Word: Our Stories Coming Together Once you have come to peace and grown from your experiences being bullied, you can now use these experiences to help others and help them "game change" their lives. Christina Catalano is an anti-bullying advocate and a survivor of 13 years of bullying. Catalano is the Founder and CEO of RISE Anti-Bullying, a charity that counsels children who are or have been bullied as well as conducts research for school policy for safer environments; Catalano has raised more than $10 million for the cause by taking steps to change how she reacted to her experiences of being bullied and becoming a game changer herself.
